As someone who has proudly supported Blenko Glass for over 15 years, it saddens me to say that I can no longer recommend this company. I’ve spent many nights camping out for the annual West Virginia Day piece—an event that used to be a celebration of community, tradition, and the loyal customers who came back year after year to support a beloved local business.
This wasn’t just a yearly purchase—it was a family tradition. When my grandmother was no longer able to attend in person, I continued to carry on the tradition for her. Each year, I continued buying the WV Day vase not only as a collector, but as a way to honor her love for Blenko and what it represented.
Sadly, that sense of tradition and community has been completely lost. What was once a meaningful, in-person event for faithful supporters has now become little more than a money grab through an impersonal online auction. The commemorative pieces—once reasonably accessible to longtime fans—are now reserved for the highest bidder. This change disregards the loyal customers who made the event special for decades.
This year marks the first time since I took over the tradition from my grandmother that I was unable to get a WV Day vase. It's incredibly disappointing and disheartening to realize that the very people who upheld this tradition are now being pushed out in favor of profit.
While I truly wanted to continue supporting a small, local company with such a rich history, I cannot support a business that no longer supports...
Read moreA hidden gem. Approaching the visitor's center past the glass factory, entering the front doors, your eyes are welcomed to a feast of colors, shapes, hues, textures and designs. My first introduction to Blenko glass were some vases my mother had acquired some 50 years ago. I distinctly remember the Blenko logo on the label. Visiting Tamarack marketplace in Beckley, WV we perused a great variety of glass on display.
The visit to the visitor center was an absolute treat. LOTS to look at on the sales floor, all available for purchase. On display were current "first-quality" pieces. Some previously retired collection pieces were available. We happened to hit the garden sale. Selected vases, pitchers, bowls, sun catchers and critters were all available for a greatly reduced price. On top of that, for each $50 increment of purchase made, additional freebies were thrown in. The clerks securely packaged our items, sealed the box, and we merrily drove back home with some beautiful treasures. Every time we look at one of the pieces, memories of our visit are attached.
The second floor houses a wonderful museum of past pieces and some breathtaking stained-glass panels. The grounds are nice, with shaded areas alongside some water, a garden area, all available to meander through. You will find some treasures anywhere you look. This is a definite stop for a future return visit. Check out their website for visiting hours. They are currently open for business on...
