The store itself is cool, and has a lot of unique items. The atmosphere is great, and really does feel like you're thrown back in time, which is a good thing for a retro store.
My big gripe with Makes Cents, is that nearly every game that I have bought from them, is downright gross. The amount of unknown substances on these games is shocking, and it is very evident that there is no attempt at all to clean any games at all, only the extremely expensive ones in the display. I bought PS2 games, Xbox 360 games, and even was turned off of buying other games for the Wii and such because I could physically see the dirt and grime on the game in the display case. It is seriously gross buying 5 games, and spending over an hour PROPERLY cleaning them to how they should be from the start. They often have game cases that are messed up, and if you ask to swap the cases for a different one, the employees are told they cannot do that. I understand if I was swapping the case from a cheap game to an expensive one, but i'm already paying a premium coming here. Why does it matter if the "God of War" I buy, thats $15, gets a case swap with an "Intellivision Lives!" thats been sitting on the shelf for most likely nearly 5 years.
Unfortunately, I was given the wrong impression the first time when in and I bought Silent Hill 1 for the PS1, because every time after that I just get more and more disappointed. The game was cleaned, and cared for, probably because it was expensive and in the display case..
There are items here that have not been price adjusted, such as the PS1 classic that has been sitting in the display for seemingly forever. You can get them brand new for sub $80, and they are asking $100. The pricing never seems to change from when they slap the sticker on it, and leads to fairly priced games, to downright outrageous pricing for seemingly most.
If you are asking for over full price, which this place often is, why is my game case full of Timmy's leftover grapes from lunch in 2009?.. You can do better than that...
There is no reason that someone cant clean these games when they get them in, instead of standing behind the counter with their arms folded, just my two cents.
We will not return unless this is addressed, which sucks, because it is a seriously unique store that could do so...
Read moreA quiet little store tucked away in a shopping center, making a bold statement with such a bright yellow sign.
At first I was confused until I saw the Pac-Man has the c and the letters that I recognize from one of the talents I represent, Paul Niemeyer who has drawn that character before many of times.
My friend had already ran inside to go check it out and found her husband a Lego set from 2004 and picked it up immediately as it was priced about 20% under eBay value.
When we went to go pick them up, my other friend decided to go inside and immediately ran to the Atari section.
While inside he was able to find and locate a bunch of Atari games for $10 and less though I still had to watch him try to haggle for a few extra dollars. It was definitely interesting to record. It's a mastercraft of negotiations.
Jokes aside, it was a very awesome to see this location where it had so many great items and selection.
Every system was represented and it was nice to see the prices in line with great market value for most items.
If you're interested in seeing a cool shop, stop off by. Let them know that you like to have guest come in for private signings and we can help them do that.
Makes sense. Definitely again, five stars in my book for the classiness of the store....
Read moreThis is an AMAZING store with a ton of my childhood memories and i love the wide selection they have for toys & video games. However I normally sell my toys and figures here and have gotten great offers. Went in today and they guy who was working obviosly had no clue what he was doing. He took all the stuff i had looked it up and told me he didnt want to insult me and proceed to put everything back in the bag due to "all the stuff i had that would be worth something was all open". I understand value drops for open and not mint figures. But this same person did this to my wife a few months back offered her $25 for some stuff i had for sale. I went back a day or 2 after that and delt with the person i normally do and got what i consider a fair and decent price well above the $25 offer. The guy ive delt with EVERY time im in is fair, knowledgeable and very customer orientated. The person today should NOT be working in a collectable shop that buys and sells toys exspecially if hes not very knowledgeable. I'll continue to buy and sell here due to the great service ive had time...
