We were in the process of looking for a new kitchen set as our oak kitchen table after 20 years was starting to show its age. There were scratches, cut marks, and an area where nail polish remover was spilled and removed the finish. One evening browsing the web, I looked up furniture refinishers and ran across Furniture Works.
The next morning I called and left a message. Within an hour I received a call from Greg telling me he would be by the next day, with a time to look at it. He arrived the next day as promised with a helper; Greg looked at the table, told me how long it would take and gave me a price.
A few weeks later he called and asked me when he could come by with our table.
Once it was re-attached to the base a polish was applied and he told us to wait a day before wiping it off.
Just before leaving I asked him if he could fix a few chairs. My grandkids had knocked the chair backwards and the top portion was cracked and splintered. He took a look, gave me a price and told me to give him a week and a half.
When I saw them, I couldn’t believe the difference. They looked new as well.
Being over twenty years old, the chairs have since been discontinued and shopping around decent new oak chair replacements are costly. The table has four leafs and we thought we would have to purchase a smaller table to stay in the range we wanted.
By the way, the next day I wiped off the table top and was amazed at the finished product!
With Furniture Works, we have our old ‘new’ table with four leafs, and were able to keep our old chairs.
I visited Greg’s shop after our furniture restoration and he really does some nice custom work. If you have a piece you want fabricated draw it up, give him the dimensions and he will make it for you. He also does reupholstering.
If you have a piece of furniture you want to keep, go the Furniture Works and ask for Greg. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending them to anyone...
Read moreOwner Greg Renolds and his assistant Greg did an amazing job of repairing our beautiful Thomasville dining table damaged during a move from NW NJ to Mercer County. Our movers disassembled our table prior to wrapping and loading it onto the truck and reassembled it at our new home, but after they left we discovered that one end of this very expensive table was wobbly and unstable. I searched for high end furniture repair and Greg's page drew me in. He is 4th generation running the business and knows wood! We contacted him through email and he was very responsive. We scheduled an appointment to evaluate the damage and he texted us when he was a half hour out. After arriving he and his assistant did an evaluation of the table and felt it could be repaired on site. They set to work on the table and discovered that the movers had removed not just the table legs, but the table aprons and trim. The damage was caused when the attempted to re assemble the table. Parts were damaged and misaligned. They had a plan to address each issue and piece by piece the table was put back together properly, with bracing on the weakened legs to ensure stability. After 24 hours to allow the repair to set, the table is as solid as the day it was delivered! Professional, Patient, and personable, Greg and is Furniture Works team did an amazing job. He even fixed the felt lined silverware drawer in the matching buffet that had been damaged. Can't thank him enough for repairing our pieces and recommend his company highly and without reservation! If you have high end furniture or antiques in need of attention or want custom made pieces, Furniture Works, LLC is your...
Read moreCan’t say we are completely satisfied although going in we really thought we would be. We received an initial estimate which we thought was a little expensive but we figured it would be worth it. After actual inspection the price went up because of the size of the table… again we were willing to pay for craftsmanship.
Here are the reasons we are less than completely satisfied. First, it was recommended that we go a touch darker on the finish. We were explicitly told we would get a call to go to the shop and review color options. It never happened and the tables were finished way darker than we would have selected.
Next, after a few months we noticed some chipping. Granted I’m sure had we treaded our everyday furniture with kid gloves the chips may not be there. But the issue is twofold. First, the color contrast between the new very dark color and the natural wood is dramatic. Therefore, the chips are very noticeable. Second, we reached out to Furniture Works and asked (i) how do we touch up and (ii) the new finish seems less durable and is there a harder finish that can be applied. We got no reply.
Between the lack of follow up on the finish selection and not responding to our inquiry we would be more likely to describe Furniture Works as craftsman whose customer service skills have room for...
