Always have a good experience, but I wanted to warn people about Jayne, a sample worker here.
She is a sample giver, and we got a sample from Jayne and she got extremely aggressive towards me and my girlfriend. I told the manager, and other members came up to us wondering what was wrong with her.
Jayne showed some real physical aggression.
I wish I could offer something story wise, but me and my girlfriend have worked in the service industry/retail our whole lives so we know to be very kind to workers. We've been in their shoes for a long time.
In all, we were shopping, enjoying our time off together and stopped by Costco to pick a few things up. Everyone was very genuine, great experience. We walked up to Jayne sampling some pizza, and my gf grabbed one, said "thank you!" and Jayne grabbed one of the pieces from the tray, wadded it up in her hand extremely aggressive, and threw it in the trash can as hard as she could. I'm talking hand over her head type of slam.
Initially, being in the service industry I expect that from the consumer's side. My initial intention was to just laugh. So I did... Then Jayne mocked my laugh maintaining her aggressiveness. I laughed harder because it was ridiculous at that point. Afterward, I read Jayne's name tag to ensure they know she's being aggressive toward members. The manager told me she's not technically Costco, but Jayne's manager was there in the office and she went and told that person.
We told the manager we recommend watching the footage because that type of anger over nothing can be dangerous and should be looked into.
I asked a friend of mine who works in a different state at Costco, and at first he defended her, because everyone has a good experience with the samplers! Well, not with Jayne.
This portion is for the employees. We did not reach over the sample. We did not grab a slice from the paper and leave the paper there. We did not grab the sample from the second tray. We grabbed it from the first tray.
This occurred 4/21/2022 at around 6:30PM.
I really hope something was done. I never want anything bad to anyone, but this was the first time I've seen an employee this upset. It was the type of anger you'd see in a rage compilation. I've had some really difficult times and I understand people can have a bad day, but it's not right to take your anger out on bystanders, members, strangers, etc.. I will change my rating after I notice she's gone.
In the meantime, be careful of Jayne.
Update: She wasn't there so hopefully means she was taken for more personable training. We wish her the best.
Update 2: Still no angry person, I can happily shop here again.
Update 3:...
Read moreI have a newly acquired COSTCO account and have been trying to decide if it is worth it to have it and Sam’s and if not which should I keep. I have had Sam’s for years. Today, maybe my 4th visit to COSTCO, I headed toward the self-checkout. It wasn’t particularly busy but there was only 1 cashier attended line open. There are no scan guns at the self check out. I had several very large boxes and bags to check out so I reluctantly went to wait and get checked out at the attended line. When I reached the attendant (a man, not dressed as a cashier and I supposed he was upper level employment helping out), I asked if I had missed the scan gun at self-checkout. He said no that COSTCO wanted all the items out of the carts so that they can be scanned and unfortunately a few people who decide to hide items underneath other items had made it inconvenient for everyone. I asked him if the people that check you out at the door couldn’t prevent the theft from happening. He said “Do you think our employees want to lift all those heavy items?” To which I said, “Do you think I want to lift all those heavy items just to get them scanned so I can buy them?” He said something to the effect that that was the way it was and to “Have a nice day”. If this person truly represents the attitude of COSCO toward the convenience and service of their patrons, then they are completely tone deaf and I have made my decision to keep Sam’s. When I applied for the COSCO card I asked about a comparable “Scan and Go” feature that Sam’s has. That COSCO employee told me that it was being trialed in other stores and they are hoping to implement it nationwide soon. Soooooo – who’s going to check the baskets now????? Thanks, COSCO for thinking all you customers are potential thieves.
1/21/22 Update - I changed my rating because I had a COSCO ASM reach out to me about the experience. He was very apologetic about the snarky comment from the cashier and gave totally different explanation for the lack of scan guns at the register. I am very impressed that they would be concerned about my experience and I consider that very customer oriented. However, my understanding is that scan guns will not be placed at the self check out anytime in the near future and that they are suppose to have associates stationed to help with large items. To me that is not "self check-out". I also did not leave the conversation thinking that there was going to be any equivalent to "scan and go" that is at Sam's. This is why its 3 out of 5 stars. That "scan and go" is so convenient and saves...
Read moreBeen shopping here for a while, been to costco several times with my uncle before I was member. Always loved it.
First of all, the gas alone would be enough for most people to get a membership. It's $60/year, but the regular gas is usually about $0.2/gallon cheaper than anywhere else (only place that even comes close is walmart and that's been just within the past month. Gas before then has always been cheaper.) Premium gas is usually as cheap as regular gas at gas stations.
Many of the grocceries here are as cheap if not cheaper. If you sign up for the premium membership ($120/year) the membership will pay for itself if you use your Citi credit card. 2% cash back on all Costco purchases and 3% cash back at resturants is very hard to beat.
Café at Costco is 2nd to none, slice of pizza is $2.99, 16" pizza is $10.99, cheaper than all the other large pizzas at from pizza places. 8oz frozen coffee is $2.99, hotdogs and drink is $1.50 (haven't eaten a hotdogs since high-school (9 years) tried it for the first time at Costco. Best hotdog I've ever had ever.) Drink + free refill is only $0.69.
When I joined Costco, I was having a lot of finical difficultly, some months I had saved only $20, I spent many dinners and breakfasts at Costco. The Cafe really helped me during those times.
Customer service is excelent. Phil from the pharmacy walked with me to help me find an item for about an hour today. Aaron was very helpful too. I forgot an item at self check-out, unfortunately when I realied my mistake i was already back home. When I returned the store was close, Adam helped me, they checked the camera footage and saw that someone had put my item somewhere else and they were able to find it and give it back to me. You will NOT recieve this level of customer care at Walmart.
I will always be grateful and be a...
