I hired this company for a SMALL bath remodel based on two things: A completely positive experience several years ago when they remodeled my mother's first floor so she could stay in her 3 level home, and the recent reviews (in the past year) which made me think they were still a top level company. Nothing could be further from the truth. To start with, the FIRST thing I questioned was the ability of this company to have me orchestrating things from Virginia (finances, materials, schedule compliance with my daughter whose home the remodel was taking place in) and I was ASSURED this was "No problem at all". That was a complete fabrication on the Sales person's part. Almost from the get go, the fact that I was in Virginia and the need to communicate with me was used as an excuse for all of the subsequent issues - of which there were MANY.
I asked - before going ahead with signing the contract how long it would take for this bath remodel - especially since we were taking this small room down to the studs. "Best case scenario, one week, worst case, two weeks". Well the worst case scenario was put into place - and it ended up taking almost five weeks. The contributing factors right from the outset was the firing of the project manager on DAY ONE of this job (which we found out from the lone worker who showed up that day). That worker stayed ONE HOUR on day one. Other issues were the lack of planning on GM Roth's part - poor scheduling and bringing inspectors in days after work was completed and doing nothing in between. Another issue one day was the lack of material being on site, even though it had been approved weeks ahead of time - causing the worker to leave to go make the purchase.
The installation of the BRAND NEW drywall turned into a minor nightmare, with the walls not being furred out properly, resulting in a wavy wall that had to be reworked twice. When the shower rod was installed, the damage to the wall where the supports were was so significant, it took a week of rescheduling repairs and repainting.
The floor protection was laid down OVER heating vents. The electrical ended up interfering with the medicine cabinet - which is why we specifically asked that it all be moved from the location it was at. With the walls completely torn out, there was no excuse that we will accept that it couldn't be moved where we wanted it.
Week two or three into the job, the SECOND project Manager was fired/let go - we're not sure. All we know is that he suddenly disappeared from the job and a third PM was put in place. Multiple issues with communication resulted and somewhere in the next few weeks, one of the excuses for delays etc was that "It is difficult to know who to talk to - the mother in Virginia or the homeowner in New Hampshire". My daughter's very pointed reply to that was "If it's finances, talk to my mother, if you need to get in the house, try the homeowner?" (Insert sarcastic tone at this point since we were both entirely over dealing with GM Roth.
I have every single email from GM Roth as they continually apologized for the mess they were making of this very small bathroom remodel - so when they reply to this review with further excuses as to why it didn't go well - let's just say I won't be surprised. They said (several times) that due to the horrible experience they foisted on us, they were going to do a "post mortem" of the project from start to finish so these things wouldn't happen again. Yet, somehow, after receiving final payment from me, not a single person has asked my daughter or myself to participate in this process.
We delivered EVRYTHING we promised, including an outstanding demolition of the bathroom and payment AS SOON AS it was requested. GM Roth delivered some quality work in two areas - the installation of the tub/shower and the floor tile installation. On absolutely everything else, they delivered poor workmanship, rework after rework, serious communication issues, multiple project managers, and excuse...
Read moreWe used GM Roth a couple years ago for a very complicated second floor addition that required to take down almost the whole 2nd floor and rebuild it, while also moving and remodeling the kitchen in the main floor. My house was very old and it not so great shape. An old cottage built and added on in a cheap way. So we knew that we were going to find plenty of complications along the way. Now that I look back, I can't even imagine if we had done this project with a different company. They did such an amazing job. They solved many puzzles and figured out potential complications even before they started took the first wall down. Gerry was very involved and spent many hours walking around the house and thinking the best way to tackle some of the road blocks he knew we were going to encounter. All the employees (Bill, Justin,.etc,) are also amazing, great guys and very responding before, during and after finishing the project. This is not one of those companies that will never return your call or you have to chase for a quote. They run an efficient business where customer satisfaction is important The workers are also very polite and they pick up every day. The end product exceeded my expectations. They really did an amazing job. They also guarantee their work so when we called a year later because a pipe was making annoying noises, they came in a few days and fixed it. I'm incredibly happy with the job they did, especially because it wasn't easy at all and they finished it on time. Which was super important for us because we were living in the basement while the construction was going on and wanted to get out of there quickly. Even now 2 years later I'm very grateful we found them and decided to hire them. The only downside is that they aren't cheap, but if you want quality work,...
Read moreThis is the second time we've used. GM Roth. First time, about 10 years ago, they did a fabulous job remodeling our master bath.
This time we had them install and stain Red oak throughout our entire first and second floor, which involved sanding and refinishing existing wood flooring in half of our first floor, tearing out the old tile in our kitchen on the first floor, replacing carpet with hardwood on the second floor, upgrading the stairs from carpet to hardwood, and installing all new baseboard. Plus, we contracted to clean up / re-grout all the tile in our master bath. When they first told us we had to be out of the house for at least 3 and 1/2 Weeks we were concerned. But we packed up our stuff then put it in our basement and attic and off we went.
They did a heroic job to finish up our house in time for us to move back in before a vacation we had. There were some things that needed to be addressed, likely due to the rush to get it done, but the team went above and beyond and finished everything we asked. People like Brian and Dominic who worked on our tile in our bathroom and fixed a leak under our kitchen sink that we initially thought was done by them when they reinstalled the dishwasher, but turns out was a different company who had installed a pfas osmosis water machine at the same time under the cabinet that caused the problem. Dominic fixed it up at no cost to us because he wanted it right. Brian spent hours hand cleaning and touching up our shower stall and bathtub.
Finally, thanks to Liam (and Scott) for keeping us informed all along the way in rallying the troops to get things done on time. Thanks for getting us all those flooring color samples as well. Made our decision...
