This has been my go-to store for over 15 years. For the most part it's a good location, stocked well and clean. I love the personal scanners that allow you to scan in your own purchases whole also telling you how much you have spent, it's really nice to not have to put all your items on a dirty belt and have a cashier touch everything then bag your items (some cashiers do this well and others don't have a clue that you shouldn't bag frozen food or meat with fruit or veggies, etc. Or bread and eggs underneath canned heavy items., so the self scanner and checkout is great.)
The paper bags (that we are charged for) are flimsy and they tear. I try to remember to bring whole foods bags for this reason.
The produce section is a crapshoot. Sometimes you can get good fruit and veggies while other times they are moldy.
Most of the employees are really nice and always helpful.
But a big issue at this store is employees who stand directly outside the entrance smoking cigarettes. This should not be allowed! Second hand smoke is no joke! I'm allergic to it and I don't think it's right that I should have to use my inhaler because some lazy employee can't walk far enough away to ensure their smoke doesn't affect customers. It's literal poison in the air that you cannot escape and you are forced to walk through it when an employee stands just outside the door puffing away. If you are dumb enough to poison your own lungs and body with a known carcinogen, at least do it where it's not going to affect other people and children.
This store also allows entitled people to park in the fire lane. This happens every time I am there but especially if it's raining or snowing. Some people treat the fire lane as if it's a valet parking area. I don't understand why this isn't enforced by the store and local police. I mean, I have a rare connective tissue disease that causes chronic pain and sublaxation of my joints, among a lot of other issues. At times it can be hard to walk yet I always park appropriately and walk inside. I don't understand why some people feel like they can just park in the fire lane which is against the law! This happens at Whole Foods in Danbury as well.
Probabaly the worst of all is their landscapers who surround the entire parking lot and building during store hours with those hideous commercial leaf blowers. Part of my rare disease is a sound sensory processing disorder that causes trigger sounds to feel painful. It's like the feeling of nails down a chalkboard x 1,000 and plugged directly into your nervous system witb a caddle prodder or tazer. To get out of your car and have 3 or 4 guys all using those commercial leaf flowers literally feels like being assaulted. Those machines should be outlawed because they for sure violate the acceptable sound ordinance.
Finally the robot that roams the store with the silly giant eyeballs stuck to it. I despise that thing. It's always following me or bumping into me. I don't understand the point of it and I think it's a...
Read moreThis Stop and Shop in New Fairfield CT. is referred to as the Local 7-11.As they have very limited variety of product lines. I had to ask the to bring in Hunts catsup ! seriously. Natural casing Pork and Beef hot Dogs only in large volume and only one brand. As for Poultry, fresh turkey is only seasonal, Fresh turkey parts almost never. Momma Mancini prepared meat ball, they usually only stock the Cheese filled, ( not good at all. ) The Deli is a joke. Kiosk usually out of order. the ticket taking machine was also out of order on the same visit.!!! you never know what thickness of sliced cold cuts you will get ,no matter what you specify you usually get what they give you. Most annoying is that they require their employees to CARD even seniors for Beer. Telling you that is the State law to ask everyone for ID for beer. This is an outright lie, Here is the CT Law: STATEMENT TO PROVE AGE (CGS § 30-86A) The law requires liquor sellers to require anyone whose age is in question to complete an age statement form and prescribes the form. In completing the form, the customer states that he is over 21 years old, knows that the law prohibits liquor sales to someone younger, and knows that the penalty for willfully misrepresenting one’s age is a fine of up to $ 150 for a first offense and up to $ 250 for subsequent offenses. There is NO Law requiring asking the elderly for Proof of age!!! Other annoyance, this store only has a a single combined entrance and exit door way, no partition. the the is entrance only, Why? Produce is usually weak, Onions small and low quality, On many occasionally russet potato poor quality or low inventory. Lemons usually OK, Lime usually too small low quality and too expensive. Almost as insulting as being a 67 year old person asked for proof of age is the condition of the Stop and Shop Shopping carts!!! most all plastic handle are broken and most all if not all of the carts have damages wheels, missing rubber making annoying noises clunking on the floor and useless steering. That should be a clue as to what Stop and Shop thinks of their customers. It should also be embarrassing to Management as it says a lot about them. It make one wonder what other more critical hardware in the store is so poorly maintained? The can/bottle recycling is a joke, machines are usually full or broken. If this store was not so close by I would have no reason to shop there. The Pros: Friendly Staff, occasionally good sales on Meats, usually short lines...
