I was in the area in June 1981 during a family summer trip by car on I-10 heading westbound on the same track.That long giant structure bridge which can been seen for many miles in all visible direction on a clear day had an existing highest point of 400 feet above the Mississippi River crossing in New Orleans. Them motorist blasted their traffic horns on the highest span crossing over in salute which was to believe the highest point of land travel in Louisiana at the time. After an October 16, 1983 earthquake the bridge was considered not seismic safe, was declared demolished afterwards.What is only shown on the internet today is the 1-10 Highrise Bridge over New Orleans which is not what I've described.. Read moreToday was the WORST DAY EVER in traffic!! I was in traffic from 3:15pm until 6:10pm, going towards the High Rise Bridge in the East! Finally, when I got to the beginning of the bridge, the cops blocked the whole bridge and EVERYONE had to get off at the same exit!! Imagine that,EVERY Vehicle getting off at 1 exit, so that was another 1hr.and1/2..We had to resort to the other bridge, so ALL the traffic was now there! I guess I am writing this just to let people know if you can avoid going through the East on the High-rise, DO IT!! ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENING!!
