Gamestop has never been one of my favorite places, as the service has a tendency to be unfriendly and uninformed. That said, I have been going to Gamestop for about 8-10 years because it's a convenient place to pick up games and console accessories. I recently moved here and decided to visit the local Gamestop. I got about what I expected, so I wasn't surprised. The manager (or who I assume is the manager) is a rather unpleasant fellow with a permanent scowl on his face and the employees are inattentive unless there's only one person in the whole store. I attended a midnight release and was equally unsurprised. Tons of college kids regurgitating arguments they read online and spew as their opinions and some faint sense of organization in the form of groupings and last minute line ups that result in everyone forming an amorphous blob where everyone thinks they were in front of the people near them. When I asked to pay off the remaining balance on my preorders they didn't have one of them on file. Luckily I had the receipt from that particular purchase and they had to go to another system to find it. I wasn't aware that a business could be so disorganized. What actually surprise me was the events that followed the next day.
I had lightly discussed the offer being made involving trading in old 3DS consoles for money towards the New 3DS the day after to allow for data transfers. We talked about the lack of a charge cable but nothing was really discussed past the fact that I'd need to already have one. I went to the Gamestop the next day to trade in my 3DS for the measly value they claimed it to be worth. I got in line with one person in front of me. The manager was helping an elderly lady with cell phones while a younger guy was behind the counter. He helped the current customer, then the one in front of me, then stopped at me asking me to wait for the manager to finish. I waited about 15 minutes before the manager finally walked over to the register to finish with the elderly lady, or so I thought. 5 more minutes later the younger guy decided I had suffered long enough and said he'd handle me. He opened my 3DS box that contained everything it had originally come with EXCEPT the charge cable, which I had kept to use with my New 3DS. They said they couldn't take it without the cable. I was considering just buying a new cable when the manager said I should just buy a new one in a snarky manner. At that point I was frustrated with the way they had treated me and the lack of information they provided about the exchange. I had never been told the charge cable was needed to trade the system in. I understand the need for it, but that doesn't justify the treatment.
I will never be going to another Gamestop again, all thanks to the manager of this one. Make no mistake, I never was a fan of Gamestop. This was just the final bit of abuse I was willing to take from a company that obviously has no concern for...
Read moreToday I took my seven year old son into GameStop off Dorchester Rd. In Summerville, SC. My son wanted to pick out a video game with some money he recieved for his birthday this past weekend. We went to the wii u section to look at games, which had a very small selection. He decided on mindcraft and we proceeded to the register. It was about 30 mintutes before closing and the line was a little backed up, once we got to the register the associate was a bit pre-occupied with other things and answering questions for other customers. My son put the game on the counter. All the associate said to us was "Is this it?" We said yes, and gave the phone number for the rewards membership. The associate walked off to find the game (pre-owned) comes back and shows us he was putting a small sticker inside the case and let us know that it was game protection for up to a year & gave us the total. My son handed over his money, he recieved his change and the reciept. Once we were home and I looked over the reciept I realized that 1 year protection is something my 7 year old son paid for without ever being asked if he wanted it. My husband is usually the one to take him to GameStop, so when the associate put the sticker for the game protection inside the case I had no idea it was something that you had to purchase. Overall, I think it is crummy for an associate to charge a 7 year old kid with something that he was not aware he was purchasing and taking a few extra dollars of his birthday money for something he didn't...
Read morecame with my wife to buy some 151 booster bundles and soon as they were open since their website said they had some went in there was a guy already waiting by the counter and I asked the employee if she had the 151 she said no.Until I told her another gamestop had told me they had some in stock then she started giving me attitude and went to go look in the back and brought out a huge box and she tried to give me one, so when I tried to ask her for more since the limit was two person she said she only had three which was a lie since the other gamestop had told me they had 8. And only gave me one more for my wife with a while attitude. And as soon as we left she started talking to the other guy with a completely different attitude she was nice and was laughing with him. So i'm guessing they're friends so I got a little suspicious and waited outside in my car waiting to see what she sold him since she had said he wanted some pokemon too. And believe or not the dude came out with like more than two booster bundles in a tightly packed small gamestop bag. Never coming back unless I have too. Overall the service was buns like If you don't like where you work why are...
