My friend who lives in Myrtle Beach told me to stop by this store this morning with her as I began my 1st day of vacation. Its like my 1000th time to Myrtle Beach and i lived and worked here before. I'm a born and raised South Carolinian and been in business for over 18 years myself. I Work with the public daily and know how customers should be treated. I've owned businesses in the past and own 3 businesses now... in NC and SC We walked in the store and was not even 2 feet into the building and was greeted by the owner. She told us she was the owner and asked if we had ever been there before. My friend had, but I had not. My friend was wearing a cross body bag and I had a medium size handbag. The owner says she wanted to tell us about her store policy. We were the only people in there and had just finished our breakfast and starting our day. She said she does not allow large bags. We did not have large bags. She upset my friend and she says we will just leave. The owner raised her voice at us and said IF YOU WILL LET ME FINISH I will tell you why I have this policy. I spoke up and said, while still standing maybe 2 steps into her front door....mam. you are welcome to look in my bag. She said I'm not worried about theft. Large bags breaks things. If something gets broke by a large bag, that's a pair of shoes for my granddaughter. I said, Mam, if we broke anything, we are adults and we would gladly pay for it. She kept saying, well as the owner...etc etc. I said, we are leaving. We walked out the door. She was RUDE, condescending, and lacks personal skills, customer service skills and just needs to know HOW to be a nice human. My friend and I are over 60 years old and between the 2 of us, we could have bought half of her inventory this morning. Instead, she ruined my 1st day of vacation and I will be sure to tell people what kind of person she Can be. She treated us like a child instead of an adult. We KNOW about people that carry those very large handbags. Neither of us had those. My friend said she's going to do some praying for her. As we say in the South, well bless her heart. If our grown children had been with us, they would not have handled this as well as we did. We walked away ...and...
Read moreStopped here because it looked really unique and my oldest daughter has eclectic taste and is decorating a college dorm this fall. As soon as we entered, the young woman behind the counter immediately told my daughter backpacks aren't allowed. My daughter's purse has straps to carry it on her back. It is tiny. Smaller than my handbag. I'm not sure the reason for this? Maybe theft? But, as I said, my daughter's bag was smaller than my crossbody bag. Anyway, she asked us to take it to the car. We almost didn't go back in because that didn't feel like a very welcoming experience, but we did. We didn't find anything to our liking.
Edited to add: Thank you to the owner for your response explaining the reason for the policy. In this case, might I suggest simply asking the customer if they could remove and carry the backpack at their side? My daughter could have easily done that with her little bag and still had access to her...
Read moreThis is one of the most vibrant, colorful, and unique shops in the area. It definitely represents the personality and talents of the owner, who creates most of these unique items. There is a lot of pop culture and diversity represented in the thousands of items in this small, one of a kind shop. The owner is kind and diligent enough to warn you when you walk in that if you have a bag or large purse, it may result in you bumping into something and breaking it. She doesn't want that to happen as the store owner, and as a patron we don't want that to happen. She is simply informing you so don't take offense. It is a friendly and fun place that has countless items to make you smile and laugh. And their musical taste is awesome! My mom, my kids, and I didn't want to leave. We wanted to spend a couple more hours interacting with the owner and exploring all of the unique...
