The hotel has a good name. When people ask where you are staying, you can say "Ocean Sands" instead of Best Western, because it sounds more like a beach resort! This hotel has three buildings - two are next to each other, and the third, the "Annex" is a few (small) buildings away from the main two. We stayed in the Annex. We knew we would be in the Annex before we arrived. It was less expensive than the other two buildings. We didn't see any of the guest rooms in the taller buildings. The individual annex rooms have doors which open (inward but) onto shared outdoor walkways with overhangs. The annex has an ice machine. It also has soda pop vending machine with 20oz bottles for $1.50, which was considerably less expensive than buying one from a convenience store. A housekeeping tip envelope was in our room when we arrived. When we didn't have the "Privacy Please" hangtag on our door, the room was swept and we were given fresh towels, but the single bed wasn't made. There wasn't a light in the closet area. It's not a necessity, but would have been useful. Our room had an alarm clock, iron, ironing board, and hair dryer. It also had a landline phone, but we tried to use it to call the office, and it didn't seem to be functional. The mini fridge worked well, as did the freezer section of it. The bed and dressers had "blockers" so things couldn't roll under them, which was great. The bathroom door needed work -- it didn't close properly, and it looked very gross on the back - you don't see it unless you are in the room with the door shut, which is common for guests, but maybe not for housekeeping or maintenance. You could see the ocean from the windows in both sides of our room. The windows had interior wooden "shutters" which could be angled up or down. They could also be opened completely, which made the uncarpeted room feel very clean and open. The air conditioner was sort of loud, but it was also constant and calm. So, it was "white noise" I guess, and wasn't bothersome. The walls and ceilings/floors seem solid, not thin. But there was visible gap between the front door and the frame. We only heard outside noises occasionally, and they were mostly fireworks being set off by people on the beach. (Prohibited, maybe illegal, but so are a lot of things people do.) The overhead fan in the bathroom (which turns on automatically with the light switch) was very loud. The available pools were nice, but the indoor pool and the only hot tub were closed by the state! The outdoor pools included a shallow salt water pool, a small lazy river (with tubes provided,) in front of the taller building, and a large pool with a "deep end" but no diving board in front of the main building. There are no lifeguards, but the tiki bar bartender did keep an eye on things in the lazy river & salt water pool area, and aggressively enforced the rules vocally several times during our visit. The front desk staff was great -- pleasant and helpful! The light outside our room was out, and when we let the desk know, it was replaced by that evening. Breakfast choices were plentiful and well-stocked. Some were self-serve, some were served by the staff.

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience due to the number of serious maintenance issues and health concerns I encountered during my recent stay at this property. From the moment I checked in, it was clear that the room had not been properly maintained. There were piles of dirt on the floor, suggesting that even basic cleaning had been overlooked. The paint in the bathroom was peeling and cracked, and water damage was visible throughout, including swollen, deteriorating wood cabinets in the kitchen area and a rotting bathroom door with missing pieces at the bottom. Multiple metal surfaces—including the stove, ceiling hardware, and other fixtures—were rusted, giving the impression of long-term neglect. The shower drained extremely slowly, filling with water each time it was used. Curtains showed signs of mold, which is not just unpleasant but presents a legitimate health hazard. The cabinet interiors were visibly dirty, with what appeared to be old food stains and residue, and many surfaces looked as though they hadn’t been wiped down in some time. The balcony sliding door handle was loose and nearly falling off, posing a potential safety risk, especially for families with children. Finally, much of the room appeared to have been patched together using messy caulking and paint jobs, a band-aid approach to issues that clearly require full repairs. This experience was far below the standards I expect from any hotel, let alone one operating under a nationally recognized brand. My concern isn’t just about my stay — it’s about the next guest who walks into this room unaware, especially those with children, asthma, or mold sensitivities. I truly hope this review prompts an inspection and immediate corrective action. Until then, I strongly caution others from booking at this location unless these issues have been addressed.

EDIT TO ADD: Revising from a 2-star to a 1-star based on the owners snarky, condescending and quite frankly, rude, response to a unsatisfied customer . Xo I wouldn't come here again. Simply because of the "good prices". I will gladly pay more and go somewhere nicer and cleaner. The good: the staff were really friendly and kind. They include breakfast every morning. That's it. We were out in a first floor unit with two small children and doors that don't lock. They have a metal bar that swings down, that's it. When brought to the attention of the male at the desk, he said none of the rooms door actually locks and just "trust" no one is getting in with the bar down. And when I requested a new room, he said nothing was available. They were supposed to follow up the following day about a room on a higher floor and never did. Our "oceanfront" room was a room in the first floor with a construction area blocking our view of the ocean, and random people walking right in front of our door at all hours. There was mold/ mildew in our bathroom (see picture)!! Renovations were taking place next to our unit at 10:30 at night, the construction crew were loud.. mind you, two small children. The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything. There is NO PARKING!! There are maybe eight spots in front of the check in building, a lower deck of maybe ten in the building to the right with only one entrance and one exit, which caused issues when a driver parked right in the middle of the exit- we had to wait until he finally came down and left.. and then a row of about five in the building to the left. It was a headache. There was a hole in the chair and it was sticky... like it hadn't been cleaned (see picture) The two TVs- only one worked. The other only got two channels.

I called a week before we were due to arrive and got the run around because supposedly it wasn’t showing we had paid for our room. I told her she needed to double check. I was checking to make sure we had a handicapped accessible room as my husband is legally blind has paralyzed on the left side. I was told she could not guarantee the room even if we we paid. Should have canceled and booked with Wydham.||We arrived on Sunday 9/7/25 and just looking at the place from the outside I new we were in trouble.||I went inside and was told expedia did pay all but the resort fees of 95.00. In my mind I was thinking what resort.||Two handicapped parking spaces and very limited parking in registration. Had to park across the street which was bad but again handicapped husband that I had to drop off and then walk by myself back to the elevator. A couple of nights we had to park in overflow that was across the street and up the hill. Very creepy walking back to hotel by myself. The overflow is soft sand and I was grateful I didn’t get stuck.||Only one elevator and we were waiting 5 to 6 minutes to go downstairs.||The breakfast was your typical hotel breakfast.||The lazy river was about 20 feet long.||Pool looks bigger in the pictures.||The Tiki bar and grille only had chips and hotdogs. On best western’s site it say grab a freshly made hamburger at our Tiki bar and grille.||When we went to our room the bathroom was horrible. My husband sat down on the toilet and it wasn’t bolted down and it tipped over with him. Toilet is running constantly. Called the front desk and they said they would fix it tomorrow. The shower curtain rod is installed wrong and can’t close the curtain. The sink plug is supposed to work with a rod and it was sitting on the sink broke. No hot water in the shower but plenty in the sink. Called the front desk and the only thing they fixed was the toilet. They bolted it to the ground. Also called corporate and they wasn’t concerned about it. Started to go out running around the next day and my husband asked the office if they were going to fix our issues. He looked and nothing had been reported. He got a maintenance man to bolt down the toilet.||The only good thing about this place is the staff seem very nice except for the red headed lady that checked us in. She didn’t seem very helpful and the fact that she didn’t write a work order tells me she needs to find another job.||Overall the best part is you are next to the ocean. Not sure why resort fees were charged. Nothing resembling a resort. If you are running all day long and you don’t have disabilities it will work for you. Definitely not resort worthy. Won’t stay here again and would rename it to Worst...

Let's see, where to start. I start with the pros, Location, fantastic! We had a view of the beach out of three windows, can't beat that! Another pro is the staff, super sweet, Tammy was amazing!! Ummmm, ok, that's it. Now the cons. When we drove up to the building you check into, we assumed THAT was where we would stay, nope, our location was about a 1/2 block down (there are 4 locations) We drove to the building and what do we see?!? A broken discarded washing machine, a broken discarded air conditioner, garbage piled high on a guest cart next to this crap. As we proceeded to a parking spot we found out to get out of the parking lot, you have to back out only onto Ocean Blvd! Challenge accepted!! Now we start to go to our room but not before the glorious ride of death in the elevator, survived!! We get to our room, and we had to literally kick the door to get it open and once inside, do the same to close it. Whew!! Now we can see the beautiful ocean but not before we could see the stained furniture covered in sand, needless to say we didn't sit on the furniture. We proceeded to unpack a few items for the bathroom and there was a whole new surprise, picture a postage stamp, now fold it in half, yep, you got it! No room for anything! There is a half wall separating the shower from the rest of the room so when you take a shower water sprays everywhere. When you brush your teeth, use the shower, the sink was stopped up. UGH! The air conditioner was definitely the little engine that almost could. The bed was comfortable so no complaint there. The next day we woke up to a couple of bugs crawling across the bedside table, so we squished them and went on with life. The breakfast was only served at the main building so after stumbling a 1/2 block and checking out the Eggs?? Sausage?? Uh, nope! We went out to breakfast. After spending the day checking out Myrtle Beach, we came back to more clean towels and the bed was made. Time to take a shower and what do I see besides my friendly bugs, is (what I thought was snakes) hair from the housekeeper's weave!! I wasn't upset because at this point I just have to laugh!! A couple more points, if you will, The electrical is a little sketchy and you will put your collage degree to good use to figure out the tv. Other than that,...
