Denver's thrift store scene is universally dominated by Arc Thrift Stores, which are good in principle, but this competitor offers shoppers a pleasant alternative. My experiences shopping here are as follows:
Definitely a no-frills experience, the place looks like it was bought from the Albertsons that used to be here, gutted, and then racks put in at the lowest cost. The staff leave you alone as they stock items, and the authoritarian speaker system, which regluarly announces the rules, reminds all customers to not talk to the worker bees. Luckily, I am not particularly needy, so this wasn't a negative for me. I typically prefer to be left alone at lower end retailers, including thrift stores. It's not Neiman Marcus guys, don't expect to be fawned over while paying bottom dollar for donations. And finding everything is pretty easy. Walk around until you find your section and type of clothing.
As for the dressing room situation, it's annoying, but I've never exactly been a big fan of dressing rooms in thrift stores.
There are rules, which again, BIG BROTHER will REMIND YOU of, every minute or two. The cash only one is a bit of an annoyance, but it keeps costs down from processing fees. Just be sure to come prepared or you get to use the ATM machine that charges a million dollars to extract cash. They also ask you to leave coat hangers, and not use the place as a lounge by screwing around on the furniture. Not too bad.
On the plus side, putting up with the quirks grants you access to a very large selection of clothing that bests most Arcs in the Denver Area. As a man, we usually get the shorter end of the stick in terms of net inventory, but not here. Men will have more than enough clothing on the floor to choose from, be it coats, shirts, dress shirts, etc. It's usually my first stop for secondhand clothing. Arcs tend to get picked over quickly and not restocked as much, but every time I've been in the racks are always full.
Worst sections: Music. Very small and limited. If you want DVDs or Blu-Rays, you're golden though. Glassware section seems small as well, and they really only sell sets, which I get.
Best sections: Clothing (as described), books (decent, curated selection) and Linens. Housewares are...
Read moreDespite the fact that they don't do credit cards, which is ok, my only complaint w the place is their no return policy. If nothing else at least have a 1 day return policy, at least on electrical & mechanical things. I've had a nbr of things that seemed to test ok,or unable to test bc of batteries or specific power cord (like the tablets I tried for my grandkids) & got home & they're no good & I'm left w nothing. If they're worried about people trying to abuse that by switching stickers or something, use those labels that are semi-shredded. On the bright side, thr staff are A number 1, El Primo, top notch, outstanding. Always friendly, courteous, respectful, professional, etc. The 2 main guys & the lovely young woman in the back room are awesome, extremely helpful, always w genuine smiles (in fact I've found almost everyone serving w a smile, even when they themselves are not... like if they just had to deal w an obnoxious customer, which fortunately is rare, but there's always that 1 that seems determined to make someone's day miserable bc their own life is miserable... but the staff DON'T take it out on the next customer. The only tieme I've found a staff not smiling is if they're in physical distraught. But even then they try to smile.) So, in closing, the staff are the best. The cash-only policy is tolerable & I can understand & accept it (probably better for me anyways... haha), & their return policy is the main downfall. While I can understand it in part, as stated they should st least allow a 1 day return on at least those things which can't be tested right then & there. It would be nice if they offered a military/veterans discount. Other than that mw little service dog Cinnamon and I enjoy the friendly smiles & greetings we always get from the staff. That includes the floor (ie stockers) people...
Read moreI was there yesterday and I had just purchased my items. I take the items from the counter and a piece of decor shattered right there in front of the cashier. I offered to clean it up, but she said we will get it. I was waiting for a refund. None was offered so, I requested a refund for the broken item. She said you broke it. You have to buy. It was only a few dollars. But I told her this is extremely bad customer service. I walked out because I did indeed break it and should have brought in a bag. They stopped providing bags as well. There are a few things to point out. I am in this store often. I have spent hundreds of dollars no exaggerating! I come in here at least once a week. I shop for decor items mainly and some clothing pieces. I have bought purses for over 40 dollars. Everything they have is either donated or they buy items from cargo trailers. It is cash only so before I go. I pull out at least a hundred dollars. The comments are true the staff is rude, but because I find beautiful items I overlooked the behavior I put in my ear buds and stay in my zone, until I was faced with the truth. I encourage people not to shop at this location. They just opened another one in Arvada or Wheatridge. I will not be spending anymore money here. I'm thinking about not supporting this business at all. It was just a few dollar mistake on my part, but in the long run it's going to cost them so much more. I was a loyal customer and the cashier that refused to help just lost that company money. Be careful who you hire cheap labor is not...
