Because this is the only thrift store around, I probably shop here more than most other spots. But every year it gets worse and worse. This is not an affordable place to shop. Clothing is being sold for outrageous prices, along with everything else. I would say it's actually even worse if you're not shopping for clothes or furniture, because many of the things in the electronics/home decor section are just complete junk. There are some things that you might recognize from Walmart, or Dollar tree which are being sold for more than their original price. You can find used cosmetics, including used lotion here being sold for whatever price they decide. It shouldn't even be on sale to begin with, that's gross. The clothing section needs to be sorted better. And what I mean is they need to do a better job of getting rid of clothes that are destroyed, stained, or have major defects. Because they don't care, they are still going to try and sell it to you for $6 or more. Their jewelry section which I recently looked through is also extremely overpriced. Remember this is used jewelry, and it's not real silver or gold, because obviously they wouldn't sell that to us in their stores. They would put that on their website. Anyways, they have so much jewelry, you would think they would do some sort of deal like buy three for $5. No, they sell everything individually, crappy broken jewelry $5 each (or more). Gross earrings that need to be cleaned, $2 each. And a lot of their jewelry is clearly children's jewelry. It's really sad, I don't know how anyone who actually needs affordable clothes can get the affordable clothes because they certainly aren't here. And again, this is the only thrift store around so that's why I come here. I'm not really in a position to buy myself new clothes at stores, because lately everything has been terrible quality for an outrageous price. You can find the same thing at Goodwill, but the good news is every once in a while you might find a gem.
I really love shopping at thrift stores. It might just be one of my all-time favorite pastimes. Unfortunately a lot has changed over the past 10 years. It's become very popular to thrift, and then there's the problem with people reselling things on eBay. It was all fun and cool before everyone was doing it. Now Goodwill is in on it too, which is ruining our shopping experience, and making affordable clothing less accessible to those...
Read moreConsistently overpriced. Heavily used and often broken item are routinely marked up higher than you can buy them new - sometimes even with the original price tag in place. Expect to pay $2 for Dollar Tree bowls or plastic ice cube trays that have cracks in them.
Also, there is nothing "good" about this place from an ethical viewpoint. They don't care about the people or communities that hold their establishment together, everyone is simply a tool to make profit for the higher-ups. The chain has a national reputation for taking advantage of people with special needs. Locally, this store refused to donate or even discount blankets when an apartment complex caught fire and displaced a bunch of families.
Once upon a time, I found a toddler shirt with stains in the front and a hole in the armpit area, but it was soft and something my daughter could wear to play in. They wanted $5 and when I asked if the price could be reduced, considering its condition, the lady said I could pay full price or she was going to throw it in the garbage "because it shouldn't have been put out on the floor". And she did put it in the garbage, right in front of me. Why not just give it away if you're going to throw it out?
We used to have "Helping Hands" thrift store in Norwich. They kept a free table set up outside the shop with items that they didn't feel were nice enough to sell. Their prices reflected a desire to help people in need, and the people who ran it were always volunteering and knitting goods to help provide for community members. I wish we still had a thrift store that actually cared about helping people, it...
Read moreGoodwill is supposed to be a thrift store but you can buy brand new at walmart at the same price as this goodwill or less. They are a for profit store they receive all items by donations and search ebay for the highest price available it is truly sad that the poor must pay the prices for well worn and broken items that they are demanding for a change of clothes or an item that would make life a little easier, this is the kind of thing I am talking about my girlfriend wanted a nylon to use for a short time filter for the wet\dry shop vac and found this for the purpose but when she asked how it would be legal to disregard the manufacturers price the woman stated it wasn't their product and could sell it for whatever price they wanted to. NOTHING IN GOODWILL IS THEIR PRODUCT!!! EVERYTHING is donated so why are they pricing all their donations as if the place was a resale shop? Or a retailer? Another thing after reading so.e of the more honest comments and the comments attacking the pricing habits of this particular store that has nothing you couldn't find at a yard sale for .50 or a dollar the one reply from the actual GOODWILL industries was not for outrageous and unfair pricing it was because some store employee knowingly put pornography on a shelf and a...
