Read moreHeading to Orange Blossom Park for picnic and had to stop for a watermelon. I picked up a watermelon and put it on the counter, as I was picking fresh corn, the salesperson looked at my watermelon and decided to select another for me as this one did not look good to her. Glad she did! She opened the one I selected and it was not good inside. WOW, helped make my picnic better as the one she selected was really tasty. In case you are not lucky enough to have this fantastic customer service, here are some tips that Bard suggested for selecting a good watermelon. Here are some tips on how to select a good watermelon:
Look for a dark green watermelon with a dull rind. A shiny watermelon is not ripe yet. The field spot, or the yellow spot on the underside of the watermelon, should be a creamy yellow or orange color. A white or light yellow field spot indicates an underripe watermelon. The watermelon should be heavy for its size. This means that it is full of water and therefore ripe. Avoid watermelons with dents, bruises, or soft spots. These are signs of an overripe or damaged watermelon. You can also thump the watermelon with your knuckles. A ripe watermelon will have a hollow sound, while an underripe watermelon will have a dull thud. For best results, just go to Sons Farms on Highway 120!
This is the place to stop for fresh fruit and produce. A nice variety of melons, like a Santa Claus melon. No it didn’t Ho Ho Ho when I tapped it! Good looking peppers and Brentwood corn! Prices...
Read moreI visited with my husband and granddaughter for the first time today. I cannot give this pumpkin patch enough gold stars! They were the most accommodating, kindest family and employees! Their prices are very reasonable (zero entrance fee for pumpkins and photo ops) and fair prices for the petting zoo/reptile encounter, haunted maze. The petting zoo was absolutely so well managed. My granddaughter was helped personally by two different owners to pet the bunnies, goats, tortoises and horses. She was able to feed the animals and (much to my surprise) went into the reptile/arachnid/insect encounter and fed the fish and petted an anaconda! Mimi and Papa stayed FAR AWAY!! The grounds are just beautiful. A living flower wall and pumpkin “house” for fun photos! I will definitely be back to bring my youngest granddaughter soon. Thank you for a...
