I visited the hot food restaurant area. I was the only customer. Two employees stood at the register. They watched me walk up. We had eye contact. I greeted them with HOLA. Neither replied.
They were leaning on the register, speaking quietly in Spanish. They glanced at me a couple of times. The 3rd time, they whispered something to each other, laughed, then walked right past me to go into the back area. A third employee was stirring the hot foods all this time. I began to watch her. She looked up, making eye contact, I thought she might wait on me soon. After a couple of minutes, a Latino man approached the same counter where I was standing. The woman stirring the hot foods, immediately stopped and waited on him.
I was annoyed she took him before me, looked me in the eye first, then waited on him. I patiently waited with a smile on my face, knowing she definitely knew I was there. After waiting on the man, she went back to stirring the hot foods - completely ignoring me.
There was a gentleman working in the back area, but he could be seen from the customer counter. The lady stirring the food spoke to him in Spanish, he laughed, but continued working. She went back to stirring the food.
Clearly, I was purposely being ignored. Perhaps because I am not Latina?
With slightly different variances, this is my second trip to this supermercado where I have been ignored; eventually leaving empty-handed both times.
I can only surmise this is reverse racism? I know many Americans do not treat Latinos well. Perhaps these particular Latinas, were treating me like other Americans have very likely treated them in the past.
I had gone in to try their hot foods and write a review for Google. I did not write the original review, because I was not waited it on. I felt it was unfair to give a poor review based on one visit.
Since the same indifferent attitudes were displayed from these 3 women during both visits, I can only surmise that Americans are not welcome here. You cannot get waited on and you WILL BE IGNORED. If you would like to try hot, authentic Mexican foods,I recommend the supermercado at the corner of South Grand Bld and S Western. The people there are happy to wait on Americans and very pleased that I have been studying Spanish for 3 years so I could communicate more accurately with them. Had any employee at this supermarket approached me, I was fully prepared to place my order in perfect spanish. Such a shame. The food looked and...
Read moreWow, the parking lot is very good, and there is ample parking. The outside is nice. There are others stores nearby. General dollar to the east.
Haven't been inside, maybe venture inside maybe soon.
09 12 2023 Update:
Well, I was going to the Dollar General and found it was closed. Well, I decided to venture into this nice looking STORE...and I ventured in.
The store was clean, and organized. I hadnt been in, but I was excited to come into to see if this would be better than going to Dollar General for snacks, and goodies.
Wow I was very surpised at the selection, and all kinds of Mexican goods, wide variety. Had a meat area, with a ACTUAL Person helping customers with orders...which is RARE. *get it RARE, meat...
I was going to get some things, then I noticed the PRICES...The prices, seem higher than normal than other stores which was rather disappointing. Maybe this is the Mexican version of WHOLE FOODS...whenyou have too much money for your own good.
So, one thing I did like, was the cooler of cold drinks, still the prices reflected 7 11....3.00 for a 2 liter? So, I got one and left...disappointed...I went to another store to get my snacks.
Check it out, they have it, its nice inside, and clean. Just...
Read moreStaff is mostly Spanish speaking. I have some trouble communicating my wants and needs to the staff since some of them don't speak English. Non the less, I have been shopping here for four years. I love the hot bar food made fresh!!! It's fair priced and authentic Mexican. It's Soo good. I love bringing friends here for lunch. I've also got the to-go food. It was fantastic.
It's a normal supermarket! Except they have products from Mexico. I didn't know they had their own brands of baby formula or alcoholic drinks. The meat market seemed cheaper then Walmart! They have a little of everything. My dad loves the candy coconut bars. Last time I got a fresh made carrot, orange, beef juice that was blended perfectly. This is a great store. I have seen Coke a cola go for $9 a 12 pack though. 🙀
Juice bar! Hot food bar!...
