This is going to be a long but honest review. I went into this shop to review for a series I am doing and took a box of random coins in to sell. I had a few Morgan's graded, some 90% half dollars, some rare pennies, some gold backs, a bunch of random slabbed coins, and constitutional silver. I waited in line and when it was my turn I played stupid and told Alan I was interested in selling. He immediately told me most of it was junk (which it was not) and I played along playing stupid to see his integrity. He went through and wrote some stuff down and then added it all up. He spun the calculator and to my surprise it said $540. In my head I knew i had 2 coins in that box that was worth way more than that so I said to him ok well how much if I keep this morgan? (It's was a $400 graded morgan) and he acted surprised and said "oh I didn't realize it was that, I thought these were all generic" which wasn't true because I specifically and purposefully watched his reaction when he pulled it from the box. He then said we'll ill add another $200 on for it. Now at this point I knew his ethics were bad especially since I had added all the value in that box and it was all worth well over $1300 and thats being conservative. So I then needed to buy something so I can see what it was like to purchase from him so I asked for 2 1916 walkers and a kilo of silver he had in his case. It seemed he was getting aggravated with me at this point and I pretended I was excited but again it was rushed and he could care less. I paid with my debit card and expectedly he charged me a fee, which was the highest of any coin shop I've been to. So the moral is this: make sure you know what you have if you go to sell to him don't expect him to be fair and honest and his selling prices aren't terrible but there are better deals at other local shops. Make sure you take cash because his fees are high. Overall this experiment proved that I personally will never return. This was for a youtube on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen dealing with Alan for 20 years, he is the best dealer in Northeastern PA. Pays the highest prices in the area, has endless knowledge on coins, gold, silver, platinum, jewelry, etc. Heās always honest and fair. Customers & dealers drop off large collections for him to price because he is 100% trust worthy.
Thereās a handful of other shops in the area and while they continue to decline because of poor business practices, Alan continues to thrive year after year because heās a nice guy and conducts business in a way that the customer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve bought and sold bullion from Alan twice and plan on going back soon. Alan is a very nice person so whoever made the review that Alan is rude or whatever I find really hard to believe. Sounds like someone who didnāt get either something for what he wanted or expected and is now trying to give Alan a bad name. Iāve dealt with hundreds of people in this hobby and Alan is one of the better , honest down to earth dealers in the area. You can be new to coin collecting or bullion stacking and Alan wonāt take advantage of that like so many...
