The concept seemed interested, so I took a trip down to Grocery Outlet. It's described as "The TJ Maxx of Grocery Stores". Apparently every week, they get a shipment and even they don't know what will be inside. There's various items that are pretty cheap and some okay deals. The main things you should watch out for are the food with the "WOW!" signs. There's a lot of junk food that's really really cheap. Have you ever bought a jumbo bag of sour patch kids for $1? Now you will! We got 2 bags of spinach for $3.
My favorite section is the isle of "natural foods' they have a lot of great deals in that section, especially for what it normally costs. I saw a large jar of coconut oil (normally $20+) for only $10. The small jars (usually $10) were around $5. They also had powdered peanut better and chia seeds for $2-3. They also have things like tortilla chips, canned organic items, cereals, etc. The best deal i saw was a box of Kashi Bars (usually $15 at Costco) for around $5. They also have my favorite brand of ice cream Double Rainbow (usually $5+ a pint) for less than $3. They also had some beer and had some beers I have never seen before. I tried out the LOTR Smaug Stout, and it was pretty good! One thing to keep in mind though is some things are going to expire soon. Although expiration dates sometimes don't mean much because they are suggested by the retailer with little to no scientific evidence behind it, so take that with a grain of salt.
My tip for you is go there first for grocery shopping. See what's on sale and check the expiration dates. This will help check a few things off your grocery list for a lot cheaper than other retailers. Whatever is left can be done at your...
Read moreI love this store in Ontario. The couple who operate this one are hard workers. I usually see them on the floor stocking the shelves. They always say hello and are very helpful. If I have to critique anything, it's just that the cashiers need to be trained in providing excellent service, also. There are a few gems but the checkout is where my fabulous journey usually ends.
Probably can't get everything on my grocery list (because things change frequently) but it is like hunting for treasure. More fun than just a boring list of the same grocery items over and over. The prices make it possible to explore new things. I tried it, love it,...
Read moreI used to love this store, but the quality has been going downhill over the years. The selection is really bad and the deals are non-existent. Most dairy products are within a day of expiration, a week at best (things like cream cheese and cheddar that last months), and 90% of what I bought was already bad. The same is true of the meat, often grey-greenish and sad looking. Many puffed up packages indicating spoilage. The store used to make up for it with niche and healthy snacks at half the cost of health food stores, but now it's maybe .30 less than retail. Are we paying for that annoying radio jingle? The store is...
