I was in the ER on 13 April 2025 with my brother. He was their for injuries to his feet and back due to a severe fall down a flight of stairs. (14-15 stairs)
We were registered and taken to our room promptly, where no other patients were, and we were the only 2 people in this room, and were waiting to see a Nurse and Physician Assistant. Our nurse, Faith, came by and assessed my brother. I was a bit concerned as she was not dressed as the other nurses, out of uniform and with her hair not tied back, I was a bit concerned with how she would handle my brother’s care. She was a bit mild mannered in her initial interations with us, however I assumed that was the end of it. After sometime of waiting, my brother began feeling more pain and I went to look for Faith but she was on a personal phone call, and I hesitated to approach her due to her behavior with us before. A Patient Care Technician helped my move my brother into a more comfortable position while waiting.
After waiting for sometime, the Physician Assistant came by and checked my brother. (Isabelle S Bisda) When the nurse came back to administer medicine to my brother, she observed me on my phone and assumed I was making videos. She addressed this and I showed her I was on a call with my family at home, who also includes an immune-compromised member. At the time she did not say anything and I continued to inform our family of my brother’s care.
After X-Rays were conducted and the results were back, Faith came back to ask if we were still waiting on the X-Ray results. My brother explained to her that the PA had come over to inform us of the results. She was okay with that. I then added that the PA said my brother can be discharged and I think shes working on the paperwork. Faith snapped at me, she said, “Yeah, don’t you see her talking to another patient over there?” I was apalled at her behavior towards me, my brother also called her out on her response.
Once the PA finished with the patient she was working with, I called her over. I explained what had transpired in the past hour and half and I tried to keep calm however I was feeling a lot of anxiety due to the treatment I was receiving from a front line health care worker who works with patients and concerned families. The PA listened to me as I explained my whole experience to her. She said she understood and would work on discharging my brother.
After this, the Charge Nurse, Lucero showed up. I am unsure if this is Lucero’s first job, or first time in a leadership role but she entered the room with intent to attack me. She used the argument of my making videos on my phone to cover up the whole experience Faith had provided us with. I listened to her keep attacking me and not once did this charge nurse apologize for the behavior her nurse had exhibited towards me. After about 5 minutes of this Charge Nurse rambling on and on and being unable to provide me with any consolation, my brother interjected and asked if she was only there to justify her nurse’s actions. At this point, Lucero decided to walk out of the room while I was mid-sentence. I did not catch her name, I yelled after her asking her to give me her name as I reserved the right to know who is speaking with me. Another nurse gave me her name and information.
I am shocked at the behavior of the nurse and the Charge Nurse at this ED. As a local to Sayreville NJ my whole life, I have come here for any emergencies for me, or my family members, which would be dozens of times, but never have I left feeling so distressed I was shaking with anxiety. I fear for the well-being of any patients under Faith’s care or Lucero’s leadership as their tactic for patient care is intimidation, and disrespect. I truly hope corrective actions will be taken to prevent these kinds of inexperienced and insensitive people from working directly with vulnerable patients and families who are coming to this hospital for wellness, and treatment in a positive environment, rather than a...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would....I am just so disappointed with this hospital and how they treat their patients! It's ridiculous!
My mother was admitted to this hospital for about a month previously she was a nursing facility an incident happened where she was transported to this hospital. My mother has a mental illness which is why she was admitted to the behavioral health floor. When it came time for discharge my mother could no longer go back to the nursing home as the number of days had exceeded the time that they would hold her bed. The hospital did set up a new place for my mom to go to which was a boarding home. I was called the day of her discharge and informed that she was being transported to the boarding home. I had no reason to think that any problems would arise but boy, was I wrong!
They decided to send my mom..... a mentally ill patient by Lyft to a new home that she has never been to before.....with a Lyft driver that she she has never met before given her illness. A person in the right frame of mind this would probably be acceptable...but my mom definitely not acceptable. Somewhere during the ride my mom got out of the lyft vehicle. When I spoke to my mom, she informed me that she was several towns over. This is so wrong on many levels! And it seems like now that she's discharged....the several individuals this hospital that I spoke to do not care. It's no longer their problem. I have spoken with patient experience regarding this and I was told that they were unable to speak to me as someone else was listed as my mom's emergency contact. Later, after calling back I was informed that they were looking in the wrong account & I was the point of contact. At this point, I was very frustrated, upset, etc. I requested to speak to someone higher up. I was then given the president's name and phone number from a social worker (Lisa) that by the way was very helpful out of the many individuals that I spoke with.... I called the number provided and spoke with Cheryl. Initially the call went well with her.....but during the call it seemed like the information I was providing was too much for her to handle or that I was getting on her nerve with my complaint. She was very rude and dismissive during the call & ended up disconnecting the call on me. No compassion what so ever.....I don't understand, my mother is homeless due to this negligence. I have every right to feel how I feel. There's no reason even with my frustration, for the workers in this organization to treat me just anyway. The way that both my mother & I have been treated during this process is unbelievable.... I will never understand how an organization that's meant to help people can make such a terrible mistake like this and then treat you this way. Any other facility or hospital that my mom has ever been to, she has been transported by medical transportation. Never by a Lyft..... given her mental health issue. We are now back to square one, when all the hospital had to do initially was just call one of her kids..... the same kids that they have been contact with throughout the process to ask that we transport her from point A to point B. If we could take her in we would. This has been tried in the past. We learned this is is not the best decision given we have young kids. With the help of family we were able to have a steady roof over my mom's head and all of that has since come tumbling down after this experience with...
Read moreReceived an EMG on August 3rd and thought all was well. The prescription has the information for my surgeon on it and I know they have phones at this facility so I’m not sure what the problem is. I had an appointment with my surgeon 10 days later and they still had not received the results. I called the facility to follow up and the woman I spoke with was very condescending and rude. She started asking questions about what my surgeon has access to through some portal as if I’m supposed to have any idea what she is talking about. I am a patient of the surgeon, not an employee. Then she pulls up my information and sees the fax number listed on the script and I confirm that it is the correct fax number for my doctor’s office. Five days later I receive a text from my doctor’s surgical coordinator stating that she still hasn’t received the script. So again I call back. The young lady who answered the phone with “How may I help you”, that’s it. No announcement of what department I just reached or introduction of who I’m speaking with. I let her know why I’m calling and she transfers me to another department. The young lady I spoke with was very nice but took about 6 or 7 tries to find my information as she kept spelling my name incorrectly. No big deal because I understand that phones can muffle things out and I like to think I’m pretty patient. She is able to pull up my records and says she will be able to fax over the results. I hang up thinking all is well. I get a call about 10/15 minutes later stating that her department (lab results I think) doesn’t have access to my results and she will need to transfer me to another department. I understood and was transferred to a phone number that just kept ringing with no end in sight for about 90 seconds. I call back and ask the operator (I’m assuming that’s her title because apparently the standard is to just greet people with “how may I help you” and not let the person on the other end of the line know who they are speaking with) and immediately ask to speak with a supervisor for further assistance. She places me on hold for about 5 minutes and then comes back to the line and states that she has to transfer me to another department that is now closed (I initially called at 4:30pm and now it’s after 5pm that I’m being told this information) and I will have to leave a voicemail. She transfers me again to another phone number that just kept ringing with no end in sight or opportunity to leave a voicemail. Thank God I don’t need these results for an emergency because otherwise I would be dead by now. This experience has been absolutely awful (with the exception of the actual procedure) and that is why I am giving this facility a 1 star review.
Went back a second time and had a much more pleasant experience. I changed my rating to a 3 start review as the first time I went it was a 1 and the second time I went was a 5. The entire team during my second visit was effective and efficient throughout my time. The results were available on MyChart that same night. Much better experience my second...
