i don’t often post reviews, but have resurrected my account to do so.
tim (owner of otto distillery) organized a wonderful private tour last wednesday for my boyfriends birthday / it was a surprise and he LOVED it.
we got to learn about everything rum. and everything making of rum. i found the aromatics part especially interesting. the still looks amazing. it is all a bit mad scientist and we were there for it!
tim truly loves what he does and is so open and knowledgeable and willing to share. he’s a cool guy and has a great sense of humor which we learned as we asked a ton of questions - some serious and most ridiculous - and tim happily answered every one.
i don’t drink so i thought the whole thing would be lost on me, but i really enjoyed it! and i took little tastes of each rum. the coffee was insane. the boyfriend loved the philly pepper.
tim spent a generous amount of time with us and we can’t wait to see (and taste!) what he comes up with next.
oh and don’t sleep on the merch...
Read moreI've been to Otto Distilling 3 times now, one of which I hosted my girlfriend's 30th Birthday party. Every time I have been here, everyone is happy and relaxed - it radiates fun for lack of a better word.
If you are looking to try some great spirits, learn how they are made by the man himself, host an event, or stop by simply to see the manufacturing marvel in the stills and distilling equipment in a business with deep family roots in Philadelphia history, or enjoy having fun, it's a must.
Lastly, it's in an epic and completely random cobblestone courtyard in a great neighborhood in South Philly - you Otto go try it...

The infused flavors in some of the offerings were present without being too sweet, or spicy (yes they had both types available!). Although they had some very good mixing suggestions, you could easily drink these neat. The off-street outdoor seating allows you to comfortably hang out and enjoy the weather. During the tour, Tim was very open to answer questions about the distilling process which was fascinating. Friendly staff, amazing rum. We are happy they opened in our new-to-us South Philly neighborhood and know we will be back soon. They are at 1713R McKean Street. You'll remember the address because the "R"...
