The class was a cool concept. I loved that I had the option to complete my free small item that came with my Groupon payment or I could pay to complete a bigger item they had there that started at $10 up to $50 dollars. Please note these items are like what you would donate to goodwill or toss out the condition of them may need a little TLC so so don’t expect a brand new item to work on. If you are wanting that experience they do allow you to bring in your own items. Long as they can be completed in the two hour window. They have pre selected color options for the class and could be out of colors you are wanting from those selections so be prepared. One thing I think could be improved is the instruction process. They did not provided clear instructions to the entire group it was kind of everyone at their own pace and not clearly communicated or directed to the group. More like they walked around to each individual who was just kinda doing what they thought was right. They also could work on providing clear direction on the sanding process how long to sand how deep what grit to sand with. Also they could work on informing when you should do your second coat everyone kind of waited around and asked several time on when they will be ready to paint second coat. The lack of direction and instructions were a little frustrating. But they owners were nice and pleasant. The shop was a decent size and the materials to paint and sand were in fair condition definitely used several times but in fair condition. They have lockers to store your belonging like a purse. They do not offer drinks but allow you to bring in drinks like coffee, hydro flask, water. I enjoyed the experience as it was my first time but it could have been more enjoyable with improvement to the Instruction process. I loved how my side...
Read more2-1/2 stars. Do not recommend. People are nice but furniture and class UGH!
Buy a book (!!!), instead, on types of woods best to refinish, types of paints that adhere best to those woods, types of brushes to use and why, and techniques for various styles! THAT wd be a great class!! THEN, a practicum.
INSTEAD, no “teaching.” Jumped immediately into your piece to clean, sand and paint! A sweet, retirement-age instructor ran around individually helping and would forget what she told previous student she’d get to help him or her. She gave us “tips” of what to do easier. She could probably have designed a good curriculum for this class if given the chance. I believe she had plenty of experience.
I guess there was supposed to be blue tape to mask, hair drier to dry between coats of paint. Nada! When Sales personnel were called, they said they’d run out and knew it was not there. Oh! We blew on our project piece or waved a rag to help w drying. Were told we could carry our painted piece outside into the sun, so it could dry! No one did that.
Colors of paint to use were ONLY… FLAT white, black, pink, yellow, teal. No browns! No gloss. BUT, you could buy what you needed at sales building. Hmmmm!
Paint brushes were hard from not being cleaned properly. Only 1/2” tips painted.
One guy sanded his project the entire class! Another classmate noted he'd been given 400 grit sandpaper and handed him 60. Guy was amazed! But, class was over. He never got to paint! We were given the tiniest, plastic cup on Earth w color of our paint TO FINISH OUR PROJECT!
Recommend you spend tuition $ to buy nice piece at a Thrift Shop. Watch YouTube or buy an illustrated book. $ and time...
Read moreMy daughter and I had such a great time at SYTTD's furniture painting class the other night! Heather and Jana are wonderful teachers and give lots of individual attention. We had students with all levels of experience (some with none) and it was so fun to get to know everyone and share some creative ideas with each other. We are part of the member program and I can't say enough about that. What a great deal! For 19.99 per month we receive a free pint of Fusion paint each month, a free class each month , "private" access to their Furniture Farmer's market and a 10% discount on all products. Here is a picture of the piece I got to paint. The piece and all the supplies were included in the price of the class. (Free for me since I...
