I've been going to Aim High on and off for about two years now. Like Ryan who wrote before my first visit wasn't a pleasant one. I stopped in the weekend after I moved to Columbus to check out gun shops. While I was there they rented guns and after talking a bit I asked to rent a few guns (it was a really snowy day and no one was out on the roads so I thought I'd kill some time). I was told they don't rent to individuals who are alone. No explanation. I later learned that day when I stopped at Vance's that the reason they do this is to prevent suicides. Makes sense but again an explanation would be nice. So I decided to give them another shot.
Since then I stop in on occasion as they are close to me and service has been Ok usually. Ive shot pretty much only PRS for the last two years so most of my purchases are coming from my gunsmith but I did frequent them from time to tie and purchases some gun powder, a silencer, and two Sigs from them as well as going to the range when its to cold out. All of which could have been bought for much less elsewhere (IE varget at 32.95 a pound, $20.95 bore snakes, $700+ for a p938 and my silencerco Sparrow was I think $475), but I like to buy local and they are a semi convenient location for me on my way home so I stop in when I'm looking for something I think they'll carry. The annoying thing is I've been to the range a few times and each time I have to watch that video. They can never find that I've been there and watched it already.
Which brings me to today. Still shooting PRS but I've decided to take up 3 gun this year as well. I wanted a new handgun and decided to buy a XDM 5.25. After stopping at another shop last weekend who did not have it I decided to go to Aim High after work today to check if they had one. They did, at $709. Way more than online but I figured Im' there and they have it so lets buy it. So I waited 25 minutes, one guy was helping a lady with some stuff, another was trying to check out a customer but having some trouble with gift cards and the 3rd guy was working the range counter which was pretty busy when I got there. No big deal I'll wait. No one ever acknowledged I was there or greeted me. Not a big deal to me but always nice as most places do, outside of Vance's. The range counter clears out and I'm standing there for a second and he starts to lean against the back counter. I'm obviously waiting but thought he was stuck working the range counter as he didn't seem interested in coming over to check on me. At this point I probably should of said something. But about another 30 seconds goes by since he leaned up against the counter when another guy walks in who had a gun waiting. He immediately runs over to help this guy and skips me. At this point I'm kind of like OK. The other two guys are finishing up and I'm still kind of waiting around this point with my bore snake that I wanted waiting to pick up the XDM. After thinking about what just happened for a minute I decided to leave. That will be the last time I'll go in there.
IMO not worth it to pay so much more for mediocre service. There are other shops in town that charge way less that I'll go to or start ordering online. That same XDM that I was gonna pay $709+tax for is $569 online with 6.99 shipping. I'll probably go that route or stop into another shop tomorrow.
This is just my experience with the shop so take it for what its worth. But thought people should know that they can be pretty hit and miss, and their prices are not very competitive. But if you like a local shop check them out...
Read moreMy wife and I took the CCW here in early 2010. Yes it was a bit expensive but after shopping around you get what you pay for. The other classes that were much cheaper made you bring a gun and ammo and gave you only the necessary information to meet the minimum requirements by law. AIMHI made their course a true learning experience by offering students a variety of caliber handguns, varied sighting types, and varied lighting conditions. Nobody else, nobody offers you a shooting experience in the dark with laser sights, tritium night sights, and bare iron sights like this. you get a taste of what a real-world no to-low light incident might be like and how to aim. I also followed up on the law portions he taught and they were dead on correct with what they teach. I believe they covered everything and indicated where the laws might go in the future and where they have come so far. I will say I did notice a guy working there that gave my wife a bit of the creeps. I have been back since and have not seen him. I hope he quit or was let go. The rest of the staff have been extra helpful with my questions and offered options and knowledge. Many of those seem very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Some more than others but its who people are. Rich is not an outgoing politician but if you talk to him he smiles and talks back...it may not be warm enough for some but he seems to be a guarded person don't take it personal. I follow the news and they have had many idiots come in the store/range and they need to be very careful as this has the potential to be dangerous...maybe its you? My experience with people is that you get a feel for them in a few minutes or instantly, and the complaints below are likely from people that you don't want to shoot with or have next to you with a CCW. If you can't keep your head on strait then you probably are not cut out to carry or own a...
Read moreIts a rarity that I take the time to write a review but I feel I need to. My wife and I as well as 2 friends went to AimHi yesterday. It was the first time for any of us at this range. Our friends shoot fairly regularly and we hadnt been in a while so it was nice to refresh ourselves. To say we were impressed is an understatement. The facility was bright and clean. The store section well organized. The staff was a stand out. Never have I seen more women behind the counter and they were some of the nicest, knowledgeable, and polite staff I've dealt with in quite sometime. From getting us checked in, taking the time to explain their policies and answering questions, top notch. A short video making sure everyone was aware of range rules(required for first time visitors to the range) was nice to make sure everyone gets the same instruction. The range was bright and clean and the lanes were easy to use. It is on the smaller size in there so if its super busy and people all bring alot of equipment it might get a lil tight, but they asked for only 2 people on a lane in the room at a time to keep from it becoming to crowded wish was nice. We rented 1 gun that we were interested in trying out and it was in a great shape and fired cleanly. All and all a fantastic experience and we will...
