Penn Med is a clean, beautiful facility and they keep it sanitized. It's Surgical center for joint replacement has excellent professional Orthopedic doctors with compation and good bedside manners. However, Penn Med's Joint Surgical center patient care lacks Nurse communication, empathy and following procedure or protocol. I'm not talking about all nurses but most of the Registered Nurses only. I was in for joint replacement and was in severe pain after my surgery and kept requesting pain meds as pain was excruciating bringing me in tears and there shouldn't be need for patient to ask for pain meds as the nurses should have access to patient portal that should tell the nurses what med are due and when. I didn't get meds for over an hour. And trust me meds were already overdue. This happened many times throughout my stay there. The worst Nursing care I've ever received in my life. And this wasn't the first time getting joint replaced for me. Previously I have had the other joint replaced and that was in Somerset Medical Center. Although their nursing care there isn't rated that great but I tell you it was 100% better than Princeton Med's. Omg!, I can give a list of names of these Registered Nurses that were attending here and who were ignorant or negligent. At one point the nursing manager requested another nurse be assigned to me as the nurse I had was shouting at me that she didn't know what meds to give me, yet only if she had reviewed the pass down from previous shift she would have had all the info on patient infront of her.
Oh and god forbid you had to go to the bathroom, just to urinate and you tell them you won't take long, but they still just leave you there. Even after ringing the bell it took them close to 30 min. after ringing bell to come help me back to bed. I needed assistance when out of bed due to feeling dizzy and afraid of falling as my blood pressure was also extremely low.
Seems Penn Med needs nursing managers round the clock to babysit these adult nurses just to ensure quality patient care and oversee timely medication delivered to patients. And that would be such waste of resources. Many patients and Insurance companies that are paying tremendous money for patient care to these hospitals in return patients are not receiving quality care.
But Wait, Penn Med also has issues with their social workers lack of communication. They don't read notes from doctors, Physical Therapist, or the floor Nurses either, nor did she attempt to physically communicate with them and yet led her own conclusion that "oh you are fine and you can go home" while if she only read or contacted either PT, Nurse or Dr. than she would have learned that like after all the evaluation shows I'm to be transferred to rehabilitation facility not to be released home due to safety reasons. Since she drew her own conclusions which delayed my transfer to rehab by two days. This mess could have been avoided only if she also communicated or followed written scripts. I strongly suggest this hospital provide continuous education to their employees on patient care and how important it is. Other than these communication issues the hospital is an...
Read moreThis hospital was the WORST experience of my life!!!! I had my minor admitted for mental health crisis and was told the crisis worker would meet with me in the ER waiting area. I sat for almost an hour waiting for him.
The crisis clinician, Ethan, calls me to ask about her history. I said I'm in the ER lobby waiting for you. He says there's no available triage room, so that's why he called. I was slightly annoyed because it was a waste of my time. I was on the phone with him for over 20 mins going over my daughters history.
Around 920-930pm that night, I get a call from the crisis clinician again, telling me he needed me to go to the hospital to sit with her. EXCUSE ME?! I asked, "What am I going there for?" He says that because my child is a minor, someone has to be in the room with her. I said, "And you're calling me because.....? He proceeds to tell me again "because she's a minor." I said I spoke to you earlier, and you did not tell me I had to stay with her. I even said to him earlier while on the phone that I was leaving. At no point did he tell me anything about their BS policy that an adult has to stay with a minor.
I said I'm in bed, ready to go to sleep! He puts me on hold and then comes back and tells me to come in the morning at 7am. I'm livid at this point. I have to work!!!!!! My child has previously been in hospitals for mental health issues, and NEVER have I had to stay and sit with her because she's a minor! They always had someone in the room with patients for 1 to 1. I'm a single parent and have no one to rely on. I'm my only source of income and support! They have no regard for the fact that people still have to work.
So I have to call out for God knows how long and put my job at risk because they don't have people to sit with patients! If I knew this ahead of time, I would have NEVER had brought her there!!
I immediately wanted her discharged so I could take her to a hospital that has 1 to 1 for patients in crisis. I called and asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that's their policy. At this point, I'm fuming!!
I got to the hospital and they would not discharge her so I could take her elsewhere.
They REFUSED to let me out of the area (you have to be buzzed in and out by a staff member). Even after I explained to them, I have work and can not call out excessively! I had just started my job in December. This is putting me in jeopardy of termination! They said they understood but, realistically, they couldn't care less. Icing on the cake... I left my phone with my managers number at home, so I couldnt call them- results as no call no-show!
I was held against my will to stay there!!
On top of that, they discharged her with no meds. So she'll be out of medication before she can start therapy!
I called to see if they can give her something to hold her over until she's seen but they said no and I was given a number to a service that does not help with minors.
WORSE HOSPITAL...
Read moreI have had some of my best experiences at Penn Medicine, but this location is absolutely horrendous. On 12/28/24 I went into the emergency room around 12am, It took about 1 hour to get triaged. Another hour to get back to a makeshift bed. When I was finally placed in the treatment area, NO ONE came to approach me for another 1.5-2 hours, and it was simply to get an X-ray. Shortly after COVID/Flu Swab.
I work in healthcare so I understand how the emergency room works, I understand the lag, but BEDSIDE MANNER EVEN FROM NURSES, makes that much of a difference. As someone who works in healthcare, I refrained from checking on the status of the Doctor, as I know it's not in the control of the nurses, and a common question. After my swabs I waited another TWO HOURS.
Eventually I approach a nurse, because at this point we're close to shift changing time, which would have easily added another 4 hours to my wait, ALL FOR BRONCHITIS. The several staff members dispersed as soon as the question was asked, I got such a brush off attitude and theres nothing I can do, I honestly started to cry. He then began telling me there are 47 patients one Dr , that they've been backed up all night, NOT ONCE did he ask if there was anything HE could do to help. He repeated several times, "Well I don't know what you want me to do, I'm just a nurse."
It's now 6am, I grab my bags to leave this HELL HOLE, and I cannot find my way out. I begin asking aloud if someone can point me in the direction of the exit, and every nurse, security guard, and tech that was in the first nurse bay, entering the ED, was head down looking at their phones. I repeated my question again and yelled HELLO after, thats when I FINALLY got responses. As if NOW they cared. The nurse began asking me where I came from (NOTE: I HAD BEEN THERE FOR 5+ HOURS, AND SHE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ME) as I pointed in the direction in which I came from, she got up and left, KEEP IN MIND NO ONE HAS YET to answer my original question on how to leave. I ended up finding my way, left immediately. At this point I'm Hysterically crying, I have never been treated with such inhumanity.
A nurse and security guard then follow me outside, and ask me if I have an IV. STILL NOT ASKING ABOUT MY WELLBEING, About whats going on, or offering any assistance. After I tell her I never had an IV, she said okay, and went right back inside. I drove over 30 minutes because I woke up distressed in the middle of the night and my loyalty to Penn Medicine was strong, but I PROMISE Penn Medicine will NEVER see me again.
This review, is an honest review. I am not the type of person that goes to Dr's or ER's often. I can tolerate pain quite well, so it has nothing to do with me waiting and being in pain (as that tends to be a common reason to write a negative review) . This was just an unacceptable experience, and this is coming from someone who has working in ALL medical settings (ex: ER,...
