We have been doing Hannaford To Go curbside orders for the past month and a half. I cannot say enough good things about the service we have received. I only wish I could remember the names of the employees I spoke with by phone so they could get the recognition they deserve. But truly everyone I’ve spoken with has been highly professional and incredibly helpful. I had a few questions the first time I ordered and spoke with two different people. They helped me manually update my order and went out of their way to help. When I thanked one of the gentlemen I spoke with for everything they are doing to help people safely get groceries in the midst of the pandemic, he said it is his pleasure and that he loves helping people in his community. I remember it was the day before Easter, and he was so excited to have a day off to be with his family. So well-deserved!! The second time we went, they accidentally charged us for an item we didn’t receive. Because it wasn’t going to be convenient to go back to the store to pick it up, they offered to mail us a gift card. Definitely above and beyond since I was simply hoping to get credited back for the item. And the employee I spoke with was so kind and apologetic. She spoke with a manager about how to handle the situation, and she’s the one who recommended a gift card. So nice! Today when my husband went to pick up our order, they gave him $10 off since they had to substitute a lot of items and others were unavailable. Again, above and beyond. Our shopper truly did such an amazing job following the substitution instructions I’d provided. Everything was right on! Read moreMy boyfriend and I were at self check out ready to pay for our groceries but we were going to split the payment. We didn't know in order to do that we would need assistance and that it would have to be done at customer service. We told the associate before she printed our order out to bring over to customer service on what we were trying to do but that it was okay we are just gonna use one card to pay because we didn't wanna make it more complicated then it needed to be. She still proceeded to print it out brought us over to customer service and asked how we were going to be splitting it. So I explained to her again that we aren't splitting it anymore because we didn't wanna make it complicated. Then she responded with okay then how we paying for this and as she said that her coworker next to her made a snarky comment saying to her that they still could of split it for us. I apologize for the complication, then my boyfriend said he needed 10 dollars cash back and he got a dirty look for it. Then she handed the receipt to him aggressively. Then stared at us both with an extremely dirty look as my boyfriend put his wallet away. They never gave him his 10 dollar cash back either. The associates completely ignored what him and I were saying and were extremely rude. Read moreClean, well-organized store with decent produce and meats. Staff are pleasant and well-trained, and the store is generally well stocked with a decent variety of products. It is a medium sized store, so it doesn't have the staggering variety of newer stores, but it is generally adequate except for more esoteric needs.
All this is by contrast to the new, much larger Market Basket store a few hundred yards down the road, which is big and glitzy but horribly disorganized, with a new staff that are pleasant but not well informed. The worst part about the Market Basket is the unshakable perception that the jumbled design is quite deliberate to force you to zigzag through the store. I am sticking with the Hannaford for my main shopping needs, it is a much more organized and pleasant experience.
Addendum: be sure you've joined the Hannaford loyalty program and downloaded the app or gone online. They do a great job with branded product coupons and regularly offer substantial discounts, like $15 off $110... It adds up.
BTW, their pharmacy routinely has the best deals...
