I didn’t want to write a review but something has to be done with the ER staff as of late. I went to the ER on the 21st of this month with abdominal pain at a 10. I had nowhere else to go. Surprisingly, they got me back within 10 minutes, which is really good for an ER, but it all went south from there. The vitals that were taken for me were faked, resulting in inaccurate care. The woman taking my vitals took my BP and HR and made up normal numbers for all the rest. I was burning up and my temperature was put as 97, not to mention she was sitting turned away from me the entire time she was taking them so she couldn’t have possibly taken my respirations. As a healthcare worker, I find this sick enough. I was there for 3 hours and only got progressively worse the entire time I was there. By the time I started vomiting no one noticed or cared. I had to hunt down an emesis basin myself so I could sit in the chair up front they had me in. All I can say is thank God I had Dr. Dale because the moment he next passed me he noticed the basin and got me some anti-nausea as soon as he possibly could. He showed genuine empathy and actually listened to what I had to say. I feel bad that he’s forced to give care under the circumstances he is. They did one singular ultrasound on my pelvis (not even site of pain) in order to diagnose me. Before I left I was given an injection by an overworked nurse in my hip and literally heard the air squish out as the needle was in me. I walked out keeled over (immediately, btw, despite being a fall risk after injections) in enormous amounts of pain from it. The injection was done completely wrong and 8 days later I’m still in pain and have added pain at my injection site. I attached a picture of what my injection site looks like 8 days after being given. The way they run things gives me the chills. Not even to mention the combative patient that was next to me getting angrier by the second because he needed to be put in a bed. I get it if you can’t put him in a bed at that time but at least get him away from other patients! The last thing I need to be worrying about when I feel like I’m going to pass out from pain is being caught in the crossfire of another patient’s aggression.

I barely survived my stay at this hospital. I admitted myself with a lesion and severe difficulty breathing, suspecting bacterial pneumonia. Instead of addressing this, I was subjected to an array of unnecessary tests, delaying effective treatment. Here are the key issues I faced: 1. Diet and Nutrition: Despite being diabetic, I wasn’t put on a diabetic-friendly diet. The food provided was cold, inedible, and unsuitable for my condition. My blood sugar remained dangerously high (around 300) throughout my stay, and despite repeatedly asking for help, one of the nurses (RN) dismissively told me, ā€œIt’s not important to keep it below 180.ā€ Unacceptable. 2. IV and Bloodwork Issues: My IV had to be changed three times, with each attempt involving multiple painful attempts to insert it correctly. On one occasion, the IV was so poorly placed that fluid leaked into my arm, causing severe swelling. Blood was drawn twice daily (around 10 vials total) without any explanation of what the tests were for. When I asked the phlebotomist, she admitted she didn’t know. 3. Painful Treatment Choices: I was given doxycycline through an IV, despite it being known for causing significant pain. I requested it be switched to oral, but my request was ignored. 4. Unaddressed Symptoms: My ear infection was completely overlooked. Despite my complaints, no one checked on it or provided treatment. Additionally, no medicine was given for my persistent cough or sinus issues. 5. Basic Amenities: Simple necessities like clean linens, shampoo, and other hygiene items were not provided unless begged for. These should be standard for patient care. 6. Room Conditions: The temperature in my room was poorly regulated, making my stay uncomfortable and contributing to my overall stress. Additionally, they didn't have many common items available, like conditioner, cranberry juice, etc. This experience was traumatizing, and the lack of care and attention I received is shocking for a healthcare facility. I hope this review prompts serious changes to prevent others from enduring similar treatment.

Worst hospital ever. Do not take your kids or family members here. They didn’t let me in the back with my wife. They also didn’t treat her for what she needed they over did the morphine for a cyst on ovaries. Then discharged her as abdominal pain. Please take your kids or wife or husband or any family to either Dexter Cape Girardeau or Piggot in Arkansas. Poplar bluff is not the hospital you would want your family going to. This is the worst hospital I’ve ever seen before leaving an iv with blood in her for 2 hours she was bawling her eyes out and they kept walking past her and she sat in a small room in a chair for 6 hours no bed what so ever!!!!

I went into the Emergency Room about 4:30 am, experiencing severe chest pains. The first couple of hours were spent with me laying in the bed with only an IV placed in my arm, and blood having been retrieved at the same time. Other than that, no one came to check on me. After some time had passed (I lost track of time), a very sweet nurse named Heather, came into my room with the intent to check some equipment. I mentioned to her that no one had checked on me in quite awhile, and she promptly and very kindly took care of what I needed. The ineptness continued with the doctor. He was very kind, relayed the results of my testing, and sent me home. Luckily, I had previously scheduled an appointment with my primary care doctor for that afternoon. She was astonished at the lab results, and that the doctor had sent me home without further testing. She immediately ordered more lab work, with one of the tests requested by her was to eliminate whether I was septic. So, I am sitting at home waiting on a call to receive my last test results. There are more items that I wish I could share, but this is quite long, and I’m not even sure it will be posted. Question everything that is done and question your results. Best of luck to anyone that is reading this. UPDATE..The ineptitude of the people that are supposed to be responsible for the decisions made regarding this hospital is incredulous! I went in for a simple lab test, and before I could go to the lab, I sat and waited for over 45 minutes to be called into a tiny office for the purpose of signing papers. Once that was completed, I was immediately called back to the lab, and the bloodwork draw was completed in less than 5 minutes. Needless to say, I will be having my lab testing done elsewhere in the future. The lack of organizational talent abounds in that hospital. Additionally, I filed a complaint against one of their doctors in July, 2021. I met with two people who were supposed to investigate, and handle my claim. I did not hear from the hospital staff, but in December, 2021, I received a letter indicating the doctor in question was retiring at the end of 2021. In July, 2022, much to my surprise, I found out that the hospital CEO had rehired this doctor. I called the office of the people I had met with when I initially filed the claim. They denied knowing anything about my claim, telling me they could not locate any files in reference to my initial complaint, and subsequent meeting. A few days later, I received a call stating that the hospital CEO had requested a meeting with me. In the meeting, he stated the doctor in question was being brought back on a temporary basis, because the department he was in had a doctor leave permanently, and they needed an immediate replacement. I was told a new doctor had been hired, and would be arriving in two weeks. The supposed "temporary " doctor would be leaving again when the new hire arrived. Believing the CEO was telling the truth, I refrained from pursuing the issue any further. It is now November 21, 2022, and the incompetent doctor named in my original complaint is still working at the hospital. I believe the actions of the staff, especially the CEO, proves the operational standards of this hospital are lacking in all areas. Only an emergency requiring immediate treatment, with no other facility available, would entice me to go back to that hospital. My rating is being changed to one star. UPDATE: 5/25/2023. Had to use the hospital for an outpatient procedure. The improvement in the overall experience had improved significantly. I was treated respectfully, politely, and the staff handled all details quite well. Very happy to see the improvement. UPDATE it is now 5/2024, & I had to go to the ER again. After being ignored by the ER staff for quite sometime, I finally had a telehealth visit with a neurologist . It ended with my admittance to the hospital. The 5th floor nurses and CNA’s were incompetent, rude, and disrespectful. Good news is the 7 floor rehab facility. Excellent...

Thank you to the hospital and staff. They were all very kind to me and I couldn’t have been treated any better. …. except for one nurse, I believe her name may have been candy or Clara or something along that line. She was a night nurse on Wednesday and Thursday night, I believe in since I have had colon resections , I cannot always tell what’s going on on my south end. however after numerous rounds of IV antibiotics I had a diarrhea for several days which left my bottom very raw and sore. , I was not allowed to get out of bed to go to the bathroom, therefore, she had to clean me up several times. when she would bring the washcloth, she would rub me really hard .. it seemed to be as though she was hurting me on purpose I was allowed to lay in soiled pants for long periods of time and at one point I do know for a fact that she was notified to change me yet she chose to wait till the next shift came in and let them do it. I’m not sure that the next shift knew what was going on. I didn’t say anything to them. My back is bone on bone and so are my knees. This making me have lots of pain. I cannot be in anyone position for very long time, especially in a hospital bed where the bed is locked and I cannot get up and down by myself. Neither could I raise the bed up and down by myself it was locked, at one point, she put wedges back on both sides and lowered the bed on the bottom so my feet were hanging down told me to stay in that position. Maybe that would make me comfortable.when She said that, it told her to remove the wedges. It hurt too bad. she said no I was gonna stay there , I tried to pull him out and I couldn’t. I told her I would report her if she didn’t remove them after I said that she did remove them. She did bring a little girl in with her. She seemed to be submissive to her, so I’m sure this young lady would agree with anything she said , I don’t think she was LPN. I don’t know what she was I also told this nurse that she got paid for what she was doing and I wasn’t there By choice. I tried to converse with her at times to make her feel like I was human. I shared some personal stuff with her like my granddaughter is RN , Both of my daughters are teachers I have a grandson who is a principal of a school also pastors at church, A granddaughter who is a science teacher,a grandson That’s a civil engineer for the state of Missouri. I shared this information with her just to try to soften her, but it didn’t help. Due to my Parkinson’s disease I cannot use my finger to type this. Therefore, there are numerous errors because this phone does not understand my voice. I have a southern accent plus a hillbilly accent. Lol, I am very sorry to have to complain about this, but I understand from the nods of the heads of different people. Who work down there in the area that this is not the first complaint that she has had. It may have not gone this far before, but it’s time it stop. I am demanding an apology from her addressing the above mentioned issues within a week. I will not accept just a letter stating; ā€œI’m sorry ā€œ. She must acknowledge the issues above. If I had the room and patience, I could tell a few...
