Great local bar.
EDIT - I wrote "Great local bar" as my review about a year ago on probably my 25-30th time I had been at this bar over the past 20+ years. I haven't lived in Poplar Bluff for the past 12 of those years, so while I was not a FREQUENT guest back then, it's not like I only went once a year when I did live here previously. I felt as though it needed to be upgraded.
So...
I have some lung issues, so the smoke is tough for me if I'm at Cottage Inn for more than an hour or two. Oh, well. I still go there because it is a GREAT local bar.
If you want to go to a bar that is probably just like the bar where your parents met each other, Cottage Inn is the place to go. It doesn't have a big menu (featuring things like chips, jerky, peanuts and a few different frozen pizzas), but it has stood the test of time (oldest continuously operating bar in Butler County as far as anyone I've talked to knows) because it is just a great bar.
The owners and staff are great, and the customers know to stay in line or they will be out the door.
As the owner of a local bar, I respect Phyllis and Stan immensely. They run this bar like a bar should be run, and they have welcomed me (again, an owner of a "competing" bar) from Day 1 and have offered their help in any way possible. That came in handy one day when Walmart didn't have any pineapple juice, but Cottage let me borrow a bottle.
