Please do not attend this school. I was withdrawn from a class due to an absence in which I had no control over. I had a medical emergency which was life threatening dealing with my daughter who has a Traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and scoliosis. The day I had to attend my class, I was absent due to the fact that my daughter was vomiting her stools through her mouth. This led me to call the ambulance and have her rushed to the emergency room where we stayed for hours. She also suffered from a fast heart beat, high blood pressure and a fast pulse. This went on for hours and resulted in a stomach scan, an IV and some lab test. Results were She had a blockage in her colon which also caused her bladder to be blocked and full urine in which she could not urinate. After her vitals had been unstable for hours and the test results came back, they decided to admit my daughter in the hospital. I contacted my instructor at 6:52 am to let her know that I would be absent from school due to my emergency. Well me thinking this was a responsibility of mine only blew up in my face. I went on Canvas to do my homework assignment and noticed my class was missing. Went to financial aid first to find out why there was a hold on my financial disbursement again! Was told I was withdrawn from my class due to 14 calender days of absence and the policy states it's an automatic withdrawal. Which is if you miss one day out the week this is considered a week missed. Well this led to a conversation with the Dean and the president of this school. Also I have a disability of both my knees and also had an injection which led to me being unable to walk. My doctor wrote an excuse for me to return to school the next day. So as I am speaking with these so called professional individuals, they had no sympathy for what I went through with my daughter as well as myself. I was diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder and this by far had me in tears to know that a school that I have been attending for over a year could treat me and my family like school was more important, than taking care of my adult daughter, who is non verbal and bedridden. All they kept telling me was oh it's not our fault you withdrawn its financial aid. Well my daughter stayed in the hospital for a few days and I thank Jehovah God that she is ok. This by far has set me backwards mentally due to the unethical things they had to say. Never did I once hear we are sorry about your daughter nor did they ask how she was doing, nor myself as I sat in the office with a brace on my leg from the thigh to the calf. Now I have to be in this school longer than Im supposed to just because they are all about money. As I explained to them over and over that this was not my fault and was an unforseen event that I had no control over, they weren't changing there minds. There are a few students in my class that have missed a numerous amount of days in my class, and nothing. We started out with a class of about 15 and now down to at least 6. I have had a hold on my financial aid since 1/2024. They did not honor my dr excuses nor did they give me a chance to appeal their decision. The president said that I could not make an appeal. So with that being said, I know now that I'm only a paycheck and not a student who deserves an education where I am charged 40,000 just to get downed like my education nor family even matters. I hold dear to my heart that we all reap what we sow and have an accounting to God for our actions!!!!! Please do not attend this school, they only care about who in the seats and expect you to choose them over a life threatening emergency. So many bad reviews about this school. If only I had read them first I could have saved myself the pain. Go read the reviews from both present and former students as well as former employees of this school. They all mention how this school is about money and not your education. There are a few teachers who really are loving and care about their student success!!! There was no warning...
Read moreAt first I thought this school was a great choice, but it wasn’t long before my views on the school was changed. Everything sounded good at first until you find out no one is on the same page and no one knows the answer to any of your questions. The worst experience I had here was due to attendance. I missed three days because of military purposes. I gave the dean and my two instructors a copy of my memo from my unit, signed by my commander. I did miss a couple of days after that, two because of being sick and another because my husband left due to military purposes and I wanted to be with him that morning before he left. I can understand the days I was sick being inexcusable because I didn’t bring a doctor’s note. The days that I missed because I had to be at drill should have been excused period. The way attendance work for Fortis College- Baton Rouge is your attendance is worth 10% of your grade, but if you fail attendance, you fail the entire class regardless if you have a passing grade. You have to do an appeal to justify why you missed with appropriate documentation (which I had given in the beginning). Here is the trick though, the appeal is only to let you pass the class overall or fail it. So, if you have an 89% Avery grade in that class, that’s with the 10% taking off for attendance, you still fail unless your appeal if approved. If you are failing regardless of attendance, they won’t appeal it for you anyway. The attendance policy is very unethical for people who have families or anyone period. The staff, including the president, come to work late and don’t show up some days, but they still hold the students to “Fortis” standards for attendance. They document every minute you are late or leave early so that it will add up to fail you. If your have a family, if you are pregnant, trying to have a family or even just trying to better your life by going to school DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO FORTIS COLLEGE. They do not support people with families morally. If your child is sick and you have to stay home with them, they don’t care if you do all your work at home and still have an A in the class, if you are not sitting in a seat at Fortis College for three to five hours, it still counts against you. You have a doctors excuse, good, but it will not change your grade. There is one lady there that just need to be fired period. I’m not going to say her name on here, but if you ever go to Fortis College and she is still there, you will know exactly who I am talking about. She is bluntly rude. Some people told me some things about this school and I should have listened. I didn’t listen, but I can warn others about...
Read moreSchool is great for how far I went into it. If you want to know HVAC Mr.Willie and Mr.Pat are the people you need to talk to. We could’ve went to the lab a bit more for my tastes but it is what it is. The President john as I know him is an unfair person if you plan on going there and you not of his likings then you need to watch out he will blatantly ignore and disregard you. Then when you stand up for yourself he will suspend you without cause and then you will Have a hearing which you won’t be notified of. On my two week suspension I went and got my Universal EPA license for hvac at the local supply House and landed a job but I already had experience in the hvac field long story short. I went to see what it was about and I liked it but overall I wouldn’t return I’ve been on my own for months and honestly you will learn in the field if you are even slightly mechanically inclined and can read on your own. If you can find someone who does HVAC already just join them because what you learn in class it’s going to completely change when you go into the field and especially when you go...
