The Apollo isn't like anyplace else, in a good way. Do allow a little extra time for parking and to perhaps stand in a bit of a line -- they have real people taking tickets and while there's plenty of parking, it's downtown-style. The Apollo is absolutely worth walking a block or two!
When you think about all the places scattered all over that promise the same experience no matter where in the US you are -- the McDonald's, the Walmarts, Starbucks, Applebee's -- you have to admit that we like what is predictable. We're willing to accept mediocrity in food quality and service to avoid bad surprises. Well, that ain't here!
As you approach the Apollo, you already catch the vibe! You're greeted by a glorious, gaudy electric marquee, a well-maintained and unabashedly over-the-top drag queen, straight outta 1948. It has to be a white elephant for the owners, but lawd, she's Fabulous!

I think the management has it right -- I love going here -- but your experience is not going to be what you'd have at a megaplex. The floors and seats are clean. Sound and picture quality are...

It will give you a journey back in time, priceless today in our fast-paced world.
Now, as a self-proclaimed popcorn connoisseur, and in the spirit of those wine sommeliers (you know, the folks who swirl and sniff wine with an air of sophistication), I must modestly assert that the Apollo Theater's popcorn is, without a doubt, the best in Illinois and Washington State. Of course, I say this with all due humility, but let's be honest - my popcorn palate is rarely wrong. So, keep your expectations in check, but be prepared for a...
