Using Peter Pan was not a nightmare experience, but they could definitely streamline things a bit.
First of all, when you buy tickets on their website departing from Providence, it's not immediately obvious what they mean by "Providence." In their list of stations and stops, they list four Providence stops. Turns out they mean first this terminal near exit 25 on I-95... and also Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence. Not sure what the other two stops are for.
Secondly, they sell standard tickets and reserved tickets. They overbook bus loads and only the reserved tickets definitely get a seat... they don't get a particular seat (not like on an airline)... they just get a seat. Standard tickets are more like standby.
At the actual terminal, they don't tell you where your bus will be arriving or where to line up. There's no real line when really there should have been three (took the Cape Code Providence New York express). First they board the Cape Cod people who got off for a break. Then they board reserved. Then they board standard.
Our bus on the way there had two broken outlets. There also was no working wireless. The bus on the way back had two working outlets and wireless was working (albeit slowly).
I think as long as you know what you're getting into, it's not bad... but you have to know the system a bit and also lower your expectations. Hey, it's cheaper...
Read moreThe Peter Pan Bus line may appear to be an inexpensive transport at first glance, but their tardiness, undependability, and lack of customer service run up the tab and cause stress and deep inconvenience to the customer and anyone who is depending on their connection. I booked the December 21st 3:30 pm bus from the Providence depot to Boston Logan listed to arrive at 4:40another pm, plenty of time to make my 6:15pm flight. At 3:40pm the bus had not yet arrived at the depot. At 3:45pm we were finally boarding, but the driver disappeared into the depot and did not return to the bus for 35 minutes. I asked when we'd arrive at Logan as I had a flight to catch but he answered very evasively. The severely delayed departure and heavy traffic made it clear that I'd miss my flight. When I contacted United Customer Service to change my flight (w/an extra $75 booking fee) the bus driver wouldn't give me an ETA so I could schedule another flight. This is not the only snag I've encountered with Peter Pan: they put me on the wrong bus--again another $75 flight rebooking fee, and twice I've had to pick up my son 1 1/2 to 2 hours later than his PeterPan scheduled arrival time at the Providence Convention Center. If you need something dependable or need to make a connection, don’t choose...
Read moreWe arrived 15 minutes because I haven't been on a bus in over 20 yrs. I sat outside in one of the new roofed covered benches. I brang my wheelchair and the bus was on time. It seemed like all there workers were very coordinated & professional. They helped me on the bus and put my wheelchair under the buses storgage. My cell was scanned, others too and some had tickets you can get in the Terminal building. Our bus driver seemed trained well and took his job serious. It was an awful day as far as the down pouring rain but the driver was cautious which made me feel safe. I always wear a seatbelt and the first bus was comfortable. We had one stop and had to be transferred in another bus in Providence, RI. It was a very quiet ride until someone started talking on there cell. The bus driver used his radio speaker to ask the person to keep the noise down. We went to NY and I even took a knapp on the way there. The ride is comfortable and no complaints from me. I wish my partner would drive that safe, lol. Peter Pan gets a thumbs up for all 3 drivers I met. I think my fear of buses is gone, and I didn't get sick ☺. I wish you did trips up rte 24 N because I have Dr's up that way. The trip was on 9/25/2018 to NY and I came home th following day exactly at noon. Thank...
