I have enjoyed living at NorthCity6 for the past 7 months, but it's not been without problems.
The positives are that the apartments are nice, the grounds are kept clean, almost everyone who lives here is super friendly, there's not a lot of external noise with the apartments being secluded and there only being three buildings, the maintenance team is fantastic, and the apartment life team (Keevin and Tyra) is phenomenal – they plan a lot of fun events and build a sense of community. I also enjoy that there's parking garages, a digital system for entering the building and receiving deliveries, and a secure package system. This area of Raleigh is great as well and central to a lot of places to go and things to do.
In the middle of the road, I think everyone who works in the office here is professional, helpful, and friendly (Joevyn, Lauren, and Kerly). The downside is that it sometimes takes a couple of days for someone to answer my emails and it's seldom that someone picks up the phone for more urgent needs.
The negatives are that the fire alarm systems go off at random times (but we are informed when they're intentionally running a test on them) – they've gone off from anywhere between 2:00 in the morning to 7:00 in the morning. Sometimes they can last an hour or more. I've personally been stuck in the elevator 7 times now and have heard from neighbors that it's happened to them as well, but it's apparently being fixed (no timeline as to when). It is often down due to this and if it happens in the evening or on a Sunday, it won't get fixed until the next day. Even if you're on the third floor, it's likely that you're going to hear your downstairs neighbors. Not so much their television and talking, but any heavy walking, door slamming, and arguing will come right through the floor, sometimes vibrating it. I can't say anything about the neighbors beside me making noise as they've been quiet and respectful – we occasionally hear their music on the weekends, but that's just apartment living. While there is a secure package system, some delivery drivers are not the best and will leave your package anywhere, but sometimes they don't show up for a few days if the office finds them and brings them in. The pool is nice, but can get crowded fast. I haven't used the gym or courtyards yet so I can't say much about them. The communal office space is nice, but the second or third time I used it, someone was in there on a Zoom meeting for 3+ hours and wasn't using headphones – they had their laptop volume turned all the way up without a care in the world. Unfortunately I had to be in there instead of my apartment or I would have left. Sometimes the space is inaccessible on the weekends if a neighbor is using it to throw a party. I've gone there on a Sunday morning or two to do some work and couldn't because a birthday party was going on. I'm all for people making use of the space, but I wish it had to be reserved and that tenants were notified before wasting their time to pack up and head over.
Personally, I'm not sure if I would renew my lease at this time. My advice would be to rent on the third floor if you can (even with noise coming from downstairs neighbors) as I believe it's probably the least noisy – just be prepared to use the stairs any time the elevator is down. I would try to get involved in the social events hosted here as I do believe it makes the...
Read moreBuilding has gone down hill since the new management. I’ve lived for 10 years. My hvac has to be replaced and they have done little to nothing about it and we’ve been waiting on replacement since the heat of the summer. At one point our apartment was over 90 degrees. I live with my mother who has illnesss that is exacerbated by heat and all they have done is given us an in window air conditioning which has dramatically increased our electricity bill. In fact since the new management has come in, the new electric bill has been as high as $1200. Mind you, we are already paying $1900 to stay here. The Building is beginning to fall into despair. The doors and security system do not work and the fire alarms are falsely go off every month. They has been little effort by management to solve this and everyone there continues to pass the issue off to other people on why nothing has been fixed. But it’s residents who are paying the price. Today I walked out to my car and there was a sticker that said my car would be towed because my tags are not up to date. The communication from the management staff is abysmal. They could’ve notified residents that they would begin towing and LIST ALL THE REASONS why your car that is LEGALLY parked in the garage could be towed rather than harassing and scaring residents. When I spoke to the front office they said that there is nothing they can do because that’s the rules and it’s always been the rules. But again I’ve lived here for 10 years. I’ve had expired tags before and was NEVER harassed this way. Additionally, the woman I spoke to was very rude and did not care other than telling me to get my tags fixed she could over me no assurance that I would be able to come HOME and park my car safely. It’s clear that the new ownership does not care about its residents because attacking hard working people who pay rent on time every month and have never had a problem here is crazy to me. I’m afraid to park my car at my home for fear of being towed. My house is still I credibly warm even in the cooler fall weather. I don’t feel safe coming home at night because they building is insecure. And there are no benefits to living here given that both the club room and the gym have been closed for remodeling for months with no progress made. in all the time I’ve lived here I have never heard of residents being treated this way. I feel criminalized in my home that I pay rent to live in. Whole building and new ownership is ghetto as hell. I’m on city council and I’m considering filing a complaint because this borders on...

Starting my journey pre move in day/after lease was signed, they offer Google fiber and the old tenant was still attached and I had to do the leg work to get them off of the account. That should have been apart of the property’s move out protocol (as confirmed by a leasing agent). I made sure to call/inquire well in advance to ensure all will be completed move in day and I was ghosted ..another red flag.
On move in day, THE BIGGEST red flag should have been still seeing the renovation in progress sign still on my door. This verified all the hell I was about to go through/still going through. No one did a walk through of that apartment, if so it was done terribly! Doing my walk through, there were broken light fixtures, broken cabinets, missing valet trash can, dirty & broken blinds, lifted flooring, broken washer, dirty bathroom, dirty dryer, and NUMEROUS things that I had to put in work order for. I moved in less than a month ago and the amount of maintenance requests I’ve submitted is crazy! I’m 100% they know me by name and face. This property management company robbed me of what was supposed to be an exciting time to something that is an ongoing headache met with little compassion.
As a past resident with the old management company, the reality is this place has gone to the dumps. There are roaches everywhere stairwells, apartment, outside and I’m being met with strife of being released from my lease. These are inhabitable conditions!!!!!! A transfer option was present, but not same rate and even with the many PESTS they’re still presenting me with regular termination guidelines. This apartment was/is inhabitable for many safety reasons. I can’t wait to end this agreement and we can both move on with our lives. I don’t regret a lot of things in life but this apartment complex is my TOP regret. I’m also reading other reviews echoing the same thing and even found out the review stats are being padded by the offices family members. This is crazy!
I’ve been working with the property manager over the past few weeks and while she is being professional in our interactions things are just horrible here. DONT DO IT,...
