Our home suffered some damage, and while that's being repaired, we've had to eat out for basically every meal. Good Life has historically been great and I've been a customer for YEARS. They changed how they do take-out during the pandemic, and it's all grab and go now. Which is fine for most of the world; they have a great selection and their food is delicious. Unfortunately, I have a food allergy that is bad enough that I have to be extremely careful about how my food is prepared.
I've tried to order food a day ahead of time since they changed the way their food is offered. If I didn't think of it ahead of time, I just didn't eat there. But with the situation with my kitchen, I've been forced to try and get food the same day on several occasions. SOMETIMES that's fine, and the staff has been pleasant. SOMETIMES they tell me to just grab food there, I re-explain the allergy, and they agree. SOMETIMES they straight-up tell me I do NOT have to order the day before because of the allergy. ONE TIME they asked me to speak with the person who I believe is the owner, and he was a complete jerk. Sorry for trying to support your business, dude. ANOTHER time they acted annoyed when I tried to have a standing order for the entire week to make it easier for them, and asked me to just order one sandwich every day for the next day. Fair enough. Today they were totally rude, said no, and hung up. I understand, they can be SWAMPED. But if there was any consistency, I wouldn't have even asked.
PLEASE JUST GET YOUR STAFF ON THE SAME PAGE.
Their food is great and they are basically the only option in town. I will still eat there, I don't really have a choice. This issue won't affect 99% of their customers. But your locals are important, and the amount of beer we've purchased there alone could keep you...
Read moreI have been a long time patron of the Good Life Market until recently when they made changes to food and ordering. They no longer make sandwiches to order claiming that they are under staffed however, every time I go in there are no less then 10 people working seems odd! For someone with allergies this is not a place to go! Additionally, they have raised their prices and decreased their portions. Many of the locals are unimpressed and no longer offer their patronage to this establishment. I have observed the owner being verbally abusive to employees in front of customers, also an unappealing quality for a store to have. Frequently over the past few months numerous quality control issues have been observed with the food....mold on the bread, brown lettuce, stale bread, opened bags of chips and more. Overall, owners should NEVER belittle employees under any circumstance, and they should really take in to consideration how much they price gouge compared to the quality and offering of the food...so...
Read moreGood Life Market has consistently high quality food and beverages! They sell a really nice assortment of local beer, cider, and wine! The sandwiches are excellent, and I really recommend the Ploughman's Lunch and The Good Life Club. Sandwiches are big--you might even be able to get two meals out of the sandwich when paired with a side. Their creamy pesto salad and broccoli salad are quite tasty. Only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because it would be great if staff could follow CDC recommendations and wear face masks to keep the community safe.
Update August 2024: Sandwiches are no longer made-to-order, but they are made fresh throughout the day and stocked in the case. They are excellent! They also roast their own coffee beans, and sell a wide assortment of local food, beer, wine, and baked goods. This is definitely the place to get your sandwiches and snacks for sitting by the lake on a lovely...
