Stopped at Steve’s as we were passing through on a recommendation from a friend who lives locally. We were greeted by a wonderfully welcoming hostess. Our waitress was equally as friendly but stretched a little too thin with how many tables she was handling. We ordered a relatively simple lunch……..a $10 appetizer of Onion Rings, a Southwest Chicken Salad and my wife ordered a Chef Salad and asked to substitute shrimp for the chicken. Our waitress indicated this substitution was a not going to be a problem. When our Onion Rings arrived, I was saddened to see only 6 onion rings on the plate with a small bowl of tartar sauce on the side. That’s $1.67 per onion ring. Hmmmm. When our salads arrive, they were decent portions but I’ve definitely seen larger for the $15/$16 price tag. When the bill arrived, we were charged for both a $14 Chicken Chef’s Salad AND $15 for Shrimp Scampi (3 small pieces of shrimp). I asked our server why we had been charged for both and she said it was a mistake and then left to go speak with someone in the kitchen. She emerged shortly thereafter and told us that the kitchen informed her that shrimp was more expensive than chicken so they were going to take $5 off the bill to cover the substitution. I told her that was unacceptable because I was not told there was a cost increase by swapping out the chicken for shrimp and I wasn’t going to pay for something about which I was not aware in advance. She said that she would go talk with the kitchen again. She emerged one more time and told me that “he” said shrimp was more expensive and they were refunding me the $5 for not putting chicken on the salad and charging me their “standard” charge of $5/shrimp (btw - later this same day, we had Chinese food in another town and got 16 shrimp of similar size for $14). She then offered to give me $10 out of her tips. I told her that while I appreciated this gesture, I didn’t want to take money away from her when it was clearly evident the issue was coming from the kitchen. I told the waitress that I wanted to speak with the manager (who was evidentially cooking as well). I waited another 5 minutes and she returned saying he was busy and she didn’t think he could talk with me. By now I was getting very frustrated as I didn’t feel like I was being overly demanding and all I wanted to do was have a conversation with the manager. I told her I would wait until he could talk with me. The waitress disappeared one more time into the kitchen. Again, I waited several minutes until she emerged one last time and told me that “he” had taken the full $15 off my bill and she apologized profusely again. The “manager” never came out to talk with me. Frustrated, we left. In the end, while I understand businesses are struggling to find staff and they are trying to make ends meet in a less than favorable financial environment, customer service is even MORE important to get right. If you are the manager of a restaurant and you can’t find one minute to have a conversation with a frustrated customer, it doesn’t bode well for your businesses ability to retain customers when that ability is even more important. And if management doesn’t value it’s customers, it makes me sad for the lovely people we met working at this establishment. We won’t be returning. Sorry Steve, you lost these customers.
UPDATE While a gentleman who identified himself as the husband of the owner did apologize for our experience, he then proceeded to argue with me over social media about the details of the experience and castigated me for posting a negative review on social media. The ONLY reason I posted on social media was because neither the owner nor this gentleman could take ONE MINUTE of their time to talk with me while I was actually in the restaurant. I have since deleted the post but I sincerely hope that for the employees sake, management is able to make the necessary changes to make this a great place...
Read moreWe have eaten there and really loved the food and the waitress, cook, et. We hadn't been there in a while and we were excited to get some really good food in a really great environment! However, that is not what we got or found today!! The server was busy playing around in the back with the cook that even the table behind us was very upset, they had been waiting for 20+ minutes just to get her out in the dining area with their check!! The salads they served us had absolutely no taste at all, the lettuce was wilted - looked like it was last nights left overs, when we finally got our food - it was not only cold but when I went to cut a piece of chicken - it was raw and bleeding onto my plate as well as running into my potatoes and green beans!! When the server finally came out with the ticket for people behind us - I flagged her down before she could escape to the kitchen again, I told her I was sorry but there was no way that I could eat raw chicken or the potatoes w/gravy and the green beans as they were swimming in blood as well!! She grabbed the meat which I had moved to a smaller plate so I could try to salvage at least some of the potatoes, took it back to the kitchen where she and the cook were so busy laughing and playing around that it took a while for her to bring the chicken back to me - it was still raw!! She never did do anything about the rest of my food which sat on the big plate swimming around in blood!! She finally came out to see how our meal was and give us the ticket, the person with me told her that it was the worse food and service they had had in a very long time, the server just laughed and said "oh, I'm sorry" and ran right back to the kitchen!! About 10 minutes later, she finally came back out so I could pay for the food I never did get to eat!! I was very disappointed with the whole experience, I left my entire meal on the plate - untouched - I didn't get even 1 bite from a $12 dollar meal, the person with me took a couple bites of their very cold, nasty meal - again, I also paid for another $12 dollar plate that had only a couple bites of the potatoes, the chicken on that meal had to be the day befores food as well, it was so hard they couldn't even cut it with the steak knife that comes out on the plate!! There are way too many good restaurants in Richfield - Steve's Steakhouse used to be a very nice place to eat with awesome food - it's sad that it no longer has great food, but has the worst service I have ever had!! The server a young gal and her primary focus was being in the kitchen playing around with the cook - and the cook was no better than the server - everyone in the restaurant could hear both of them (every word they said was like they were sitting at our table) laughing, talking and playing around with each other!! Needless to say - we won't be going back there - my money spends the same no matter where I go and if I am going to spend that amount of money for a meal - I should be able to eat it or be comped for the food that sat on my plate virtually untouched and swimming in chicken blood!! I don't recommend that anyone go to Steve's...
Read moreLet’s go with a pro/con review:
Pros: The front door hostess was nice and friendly! The food came out fast and there was even another server who helped deliver my wife her wine and took another plate from our table when it was done.
Cons: Unfortunately a lot more cons than pros (hence the 3 star review). The girl who took our drink order was very abrupt and rude. She got our drink order and asked if we wanted an appetizer, which we did and told her what we wanted. Apparently she forgot to put the order in. Then our real waitress comes out and made us feel so rushed. There’s a difference between being fast and rushed. The next con came when we were ordering our food. Mind you we came in at 7pm on a Friday night. They ran out of chicken tenders. How do you run out of chicken tenders? I order next and with each entree you get two sides. I ordered a salad with ranch and loaded baked potato. After all orders were placed we got our rolls (which were ice cold) and the waitress brought out my sons side salad but didn’t bring mine. I thought maybe she just didn’t have enough hands or the kitchen was still working on it but that wasn’t the case. She forgot. I had to remind her which she then looked flustered and made up an excuse by saying that “she didn’t know my dressing order” (which was a lie). At that moment I tried asking her about our appetizer that never came out but mid sentence she went to another table. My wife was mad because she saw how she just competed ignored me asking about our appetizer. Then our food came out and more disappointment ensued. I ordered a 16oz prime rib and I swear it was a 12oz but how could I prove that? My wife ordered the $10 steak nachos and it was literally soggy tortilla chips with very minimal steak on it. Ripoff. Then the waitress asked if we needed anything else and that’s when we reminded her about the appetizer. She then called out the other waitress (directly in front of multiple tables) who messed up. I thought the whole ordeal was rude. Lastly we got our bill and for $81 I have had better food, service, and experience.
I’m not sure what was going on here. My hotel front desk attendant said this place was good. I saw the reviews were 4 star and it was literally next door to the Quality Inn we were staying at so we thought why not? Unfortunately I probably won’t be coming back here again. I have had better steak house...
