BLANCA, THE WHITE LATINA WHO WAS WORKING SELF CHECKOUT ON SUNDAY, March 19, BETWEEN 11:00 AM AND 11:15 AM, IS RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, PROBABLY RACIST, NEEDS MORE TRAINING AND SHOULD HONESTLY BE FIRED. IT'S 2023, AND PEOPLE LIKE HER SHOULD NOT HAVE A JOB IF THEY FEEL THEY NEED TO ACT LIKE THAT.
I have been to this Costco many times and have never had an issue, making this situation much more unfortunate. I was waived to use one of the self-checkout stations by Blanca, who worked the section on Sunday morning, March 19. It is important to note that before me completing my transactions, Blanca did not ask me anything about being an Instacart Shopper. Also, please note that all Instacrat Shoppers pay with the same united states treasury notes as anyone else shopping in that store. After successfully completing two transactions, including scanning the membership card for both, I find Blanca now aggressively standing behind me. In front of many other patrons, Blanca loudly states, "You know you are not supposed to do Instacart at self-check-out!"
I respond, "No, I did not know that actually, nor do I see any signage stating that."
"I am telling you!" Blanca exclaims.
I have supplemented my income through Instacart shopping for over ten years, perhaps almost as long as self-check-out has existed. I have shopped in multiple cities throughout California, many stores that use self-checkout, and I can absolutely declare that there are ZERO other stores on Instacart's platform that have ever tried to enforce a silly policy like this. I can check out at self-checkout as an Instacart Shopper at literally any other store on Instacart, so for Blanca to suggest that I cannot at this store screams racism. A racist policy enforced by racist individuals, likely created by the same racist. To have a policy like that and to have someone like Blanca aggressively trying to implement it AFTER I have already finished my transaction screams racism.
Like, why else tell an Instacart shopper we can't use self-checkout? I asked Blanca very calmly, and she kept yelling, "You can talk to the supervisor!" Even though I completed my transactions successfully and had finished. Blanca made me feel like I had committed a crime, and being spoken to like that in front of hella people was embarrassing. And for no reason.
I'm sure the supervisor has better things to do than explain to shoppers a stupid, baseless rule about why they can't do Instacart at self-checkout as if the money I spend as an Instacart shopper spends any differently than anyone else with a debit card.
If the policy exists, it's dumb and should not. Also, Blanca should be fired because she is clearly a racist and lacks customer service skills. Just because I am Black and shop for Instacart does not make me any less of a...
Read moreThis Costco should be ashamed of their staff conduct. 2 weeks ago my partner and I had a very bad experience there, and the management made it worse. After we finished shopping we found our way to a cashier line which had only one person ahead of us. When it was our turn to unload the cart, another cashier named with a name tag as (Nelson) came from behind us and literally pushed the cart on my partner’s body, and proceeded to say “this cart was here first” We’re in shock and disbelief that he’s clearly and physically pushing the cart at my partner and mumbling words that we couldn’t understand. The person who accompanied the cart was explaining to us that she was inline and she had to go grab something else, while her daughter (the person a head of us) was getting her items checked.
The person who committed the violence act walked away as my partner and I repeatedly told him “that he only needed to use his words, not his hand to push the cart on my partner”. He chose to ignore us and walked away.
After we paid, we went to the front desk asking to speak to a person and file a complaint. Then a person came and introduced himself as (Greg) and said that he’s the manager. He apologized and offered us $25 gift card!!!!! How inconsiderate that was!!
We explained to him that we don’t need the money, and that we’d like to file an official complain about this person. We didn’t want anyone to go through this unpleasant situation. Especially when the individual who attacked my partner was carrying on his job normally as if he didn’t just attack a customer.
Finally Greg claimed that he’ll look into it and there’s nothing more we can do, and he’d call my partner back to inform him of what’s been done.
After a few hours, we get a call from Greg saying that when they looked at the camera they couldn’t see that the worker pushed the cart on my partner. And the only mistake committed was that he touched the cart without permission. And they’ll train the worker to use his words in the future.
The follow up call was more disturbing than the act itself. It left us so confused.
This is a warning to all people who go into that warehouse. Violence acts by workers will be committed and justified by the management.
We shall never go back to this place again....

Costco is a company that I have truly valued for years, and I've had no problem recommending my friends and family to come join your membership. I truly stand by Costco's values in creating a family friendly environment.
I completely understand that everyone is going through a tough time during these unprecedented circumstances, but I would hope your employees would be able behave in a professional respectable manner.
I have had a membership with you for years and never had a horrific customer service experience at Costco until today. In fact I have always received excellent customer service from Costco up until today. I am in shock, astonished, embarrassed, and disheartened of the service/treatment I received today. The ladies who checked me out had horrible attitudes. The one who was upmost unprofessional was the cashier's bagger. I asked her respectfully if she could please not smash heavy products on top of the bread because they are getting squished. She immediately started yelling at me, and threatened my safety by continuing to yell and told me that I better stop talking to her in an extreme threatening voice. I asked her what I did to deserve this type of unprofessional behavior and she said " I don't even know why you here, you should leave" I asked for her name and she told me no, and then I asked for the manager and she yelled, "You can get him yourself". The manger Pablo came out and I told him what happened and he didn't look surprised, and said he would handle it and walked away and she laughed as I walked away. I strongly believe this was a racially charged incident. I have never been in a situation like this, and I surprised a representative of Costco upheld and thought it was okay to display this type of unscrupulous behavior. I was verbally abused by this Costco employee, and never in a million years would I have thought a place that I considered home, my home grocery store that I shop for all my necessities would become a hostile environment.
