Pros: *Newer range, kept clean. *check-in is a bit of a process and they hold a CA Dl also first timers have to sign waivers and forms. (Can be considered a Con also, depending on your views) creates a bit of a sense of security. *Most Employees seem friendly and helpful (big heavy dude that's always there comes across a bit annoying, not very personable. Not exactly rude but not someone you'd want to strike up a conversation with) black dude and the girls are awesome. *There doesn't seem to be a time limit, that you occasionally see at other ranges, like 2 hours. *One of the only indoor ranges that allows .308 caliber. Most indoor limit to .223 or smaller. *Ventilation is good
Cons: Check-in, can be lengthy and frustrating. (As mentioned above depends on your perspective) cost is slightly higher than average, only a few dollars more. -For the added cost and being a newer facility the quality of the facility is pretty low; examples, Sound is not very insulated between rooms, the lighting down the firing lanes is weak and at it's furthest distance you're shooting into shadows . The worst part for me is the automated target retrieval system it is by for the cheapest and worst I've ever used. Very annoying to set specific distances. -$5.00 target hangers... As a reviewer before me mentioned, this range has adopted a new protocol to ensure that shooters are targeting far below their metal target hangers and ceiling. When you check in they now supply you with a laminated cardboard target holder... you have to hook this board to the metal hangers of the retrieval system and attach your targets beneath them... If you land a single shot above a drawn line of this cardboard piece you are "held accountable " for shooting down their metal hangars or ceiling and charged $5.00, not the end of the world but frustrating if you want to hit headshots with a handgun at 20+ yards... I found myself targeting the chin and not going higher, I've been to almost a dozen different spots and this is a first. Range officers rarely if ever walk or supervise the lanes. Typically sit at desk and watch cameras.
All in all I think this spot is okay. Not the worst or best.
Personally I prefer the mom and pop place down the street a bit more, Riverside Magnum Range. The down side it can get crowded there and their ventilation is pretty weak. I try not to be there for more than 90 minutes. The parking is pretty bad to. But the employees seem way more genuine, they're helpful they'll come by and actually check the line, even sweep casings for you. The lighting down the lane is way better and the retrieval system is much better in my opinion, quick and easy to operate. The check in is much easier and faster and its a few dollars cheaper.
RMR earns 4 stars vs RISR 3 stars
The only time I don't go there is when I'm desperate to shoot my 308 rifle.
My experience, I've been shooting monthly for past 4 years, mostly 9mm and 12ga, occasionally 22lr and 308. I'm no expert by any means, just a regular guy that likes shooting.
I'll probably be back to RISR when I get an urge to take out my rifle. Otherwise I'm pretty happy at RMR for the majority of my visits.
Hope this review is helpful and helps you pick where to...
Read moreNot a comfortable shooting environment with lots of restrictions and none sense rules. Although their website sells a good story & projects a good image, my personal experience is quite different.
I have done 1 tour in Kuwait, 2 tours in South America and having shot at numerous indoor/outdoor ranges and so handling guns is second nature to me. This range is not worth the money they charge. The check-in procedure is more elaborate than TSA when you are trying to board an airplane.
Shooters are required to sign an insurance waver which is understandable, but they also make a photo copy of your driver's license ? For what purpose I don't know ?
They checked our ammo, guns, and even targets ! Apparently they're so concerned w/ people accidentally shooting the lines down that they don't allow "small" sized targets beyond 30 feet or so.
They also make you "tape" your smaller target onto the bottom a larger target so you can't hit the line or target clamp ?
I can appreciate a business taking necessary precautions to ensure shooters safety, but in my opinion these guys have dwelled on it too much they set-up so many rules & procedures where every shooters is automatically treated as an idiot or a danger to everyone else.
Expect a range master looking over your shoulders the entire time you're shooting, they're more concerned w/ you shooting their lines down than giving you the elbow room to practice shooting.
Although the staff are fairly professional, they setup so many rules & policies to a point that they have ignored one of the most important rule in business, treat your customers the way you want to be treated.
There are many better...
Read moreLocation: this place is easy to find and had plenty of parking available when we arrived Staff: the range officer that got us set up wasn't the nicest guy ever and was one of those who try to hard to be funny in a sarcastic way people and for whatever reason decided to get suspicious when I informed him that it was NOT my first time handling a handgun, but one of the other guys was pretty cool and gave my friend some useful tips later. Facility: despite the outside temperature being over 100, it was nice and cool in the lobby (about 70-72). However, that was not the case at the range itself and it felt like mid to high 80s which wasn't the best thing ever. The target had to be attached to the bracket in a funky way (piece of cardboard with 2 hooks and small binder clips) which is the worst I've seen out of the 3 ranges I've been to. Not only that, we were informed if the cardboard is damaged, it will cost additional 5 bucks (we didn't have to worry about this part). Finally, I could not tell you how many times the firearm malfunctioned which became a bit of a nuisance after a while. After 100 rounds (I usually do 200 to 250) I could not wait to get out of there. Pricing: 100 rounds and a handgun rental cost us a little over 90 dollars. The range I normally go to in LA charges 68 and some change and is a much better, air conditioned, no-bootleg-target-bracket using, properly serviced rental gun facility, unless this is your only...
