Dollar General — Local services in Roanoke

We went to get a few things at this location today. My 16yo son was looking at deodorant, opposite end of the aisle from his dad. He opened several deodorants to smell them, putting each one back in place afterward. He never removed the protective plastic between the deodorant and the cap. The night manager walked by him and said, "Don't touch anything unless you are going to buy it." His dad hears her and asks her what she said. Of course, she wouldn't repeat herself. Instead, she said, "He can't open the deodorant because of COVID." The situation ended in a very confusing discussion over why my kid could not TOUCH anything without purchasing it. Later, after my purchase was made and my husband and son were out the door, I circled back to speak with the night manager, Rae. She completely denied being rude to them and was hyper focused on him opening the deodorant and smelling it. I never cursed at her or got loud with her. However, she insisted I leave because I asked if her issue was really with the deodorant or the fact that he was a black teenager who seemed to be alone? I am currently in Roanoke to train some stores for my company. The Manager, Lynn. was awesome!! I needed to stock up on some supplies for myself and the local store that I am working at. Lynn was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of where I could locate everything that I needed. I was in a hurry so she assisted me so I could find things that I needed in a timely manner. Lynn was was so pleasant, helpful and kind and as a faithful Dollar General customer, I was very impressed on how neat and clean this store was. I actually complimented her on on the organization and cleanliness of this store, based on the bad experiences at other stores.Just before I left we had a quick chat. She is an extremely responsible manager and cares about the store and the customers. Dollar general needs more...

In my opinion.. the best Dollar General in the Roanoke Area. It is always a pleasant experience, and we leave there happy with our purchase. Add in the digital coupons, as well as the $5 off $25 weekly is a great help at saving money. We shop there at least 3 times a week for sales items. The store is always clean, and well stocked. Management works hard, and are always friendly. I've had to do a few returns due to the system not being correct on prices but , they have always taken their time out to fix the problem (by the system not the store!) I'd like to recognize Danny, Brandon, and a few of the others who have been there for awhile. We sure do miss Lynn! Great employees, Great store, Great prices, and most definitely caring...
