Food Lion — Local services in Roanoke

OMG seriously this is THE friendliest food lion around on Grandin. Right off Electric rd right by Firestone. I go here 2 times a week. I don't like going to Kroger for many reasons.... This food lion on Grandin is great and the employees are all nice and will go over the top to help you. Management is also very caring and goes over the top. However there is one employee. I think he's new as I havent seen him there before... .He look tall, probably 6 ft or more and looks 18-19 years old. His name tag said Noah while he's a very nice kid, he seems to like a lot of attention or something.

On my last 2 visits i have seen him on the check out line checking customers out. I heard a man tell him he couldnt wait to go home to see his girlfriend. Noah responded to him “Oh, you got a girlfriend? Where is she? If she's not here you don't have one. ” The man just looked at him like he was crazy. I would have too... I mean, thats probably the first time you met the guy and your insinuating he doesn't have a girlfriend? Um ok. I have a boyfriend and he never comes with me grocery shopping. Does that mean I don't have a boyfriend?

On the other occasion he checked me out and called me “honey muffin ” and asked me if I ever considered using better hair spray, because my hair seemed like it was sticking up. I know he was joking, and he is a nice kid, but its very inappropriate to say these kinds of things to people and ask questions like he does to customers. I get around Roanoke and I stop by this Food Lion when I'm in this part of town. I have stopped by about maybe 4 times in the past month to this Grandin Road Food Lion. I agree with another reviewer there was a cashier named Noah, he was pretty rude to me. Not the best cashier. He said * You arent getting beer? im surprised because you kind of look like a drunk*. Ive never been told something like that before. I guess he thinks he's funny saying i look like a drunk. He's not, he just annoyed me and almost had me tell his manager. If I wasn't in a rush I would have told them. There is a red-head girl here named Emily she was also not so great as a cashier. Not because of rude comments but because on my last 2 visits she's been my cashier. She never said hello thank you or have a nice day to the person in front of me, or me. Nothing. She just asks people sheepishly you have an MVP card? I had to ask her to speak up she spoke so sheepishly and soft. She should have some confidence and maybe say thank you or a hello would be nice instead of standing there and just staring at the customer. At least Noah will say hello, despite his rude comments. Oh.. and Emily also gave me incorrect change on my last visit. Forcing me to come back in the store, talk to another employee and get my correct change.

This Food Lion Grocery is closest to my home of three local Food Lions. Prices may be a small bit higher than other local franchise grocery stores, but overall shopping experience makes up for the difference. Along with being convenient, there are three things I like best about shopping here. Care is used with insuring that produce is not only fresh, but many quick-to-perish tems are refrigerated. Many fruit and vegetable, like melons and squashes, are prepared and sold in small batches for eating fresh or cooking. This is ideal for shoppers like me who look for quality produce, but have little home preparation time. I do most of my produce shopping here. I like the selection of packaged bakery items like cookies! One particular brand is a favorite of my young relatives and their parents. Food Lion usually has the newest varieties and seasonal kinds which I to buy for them making me a great giver of gifts. For myself, I can find the plain cookies, called biscuits in countries other than the U.S.A., that I love with coffee and tea, and find only in speciality shops. The physical layout is easy to negotiate and cleanliness of this Food Lion is impressive. The employees are neat and clean in appearance, plus helpful and friendly.
