We recently bought a built-in microwave from ALLEN MURPHY and, long story short, it turns out that the microwave was not new and had a known defect. We noticed immediately that the door to the microwave would not consistently shut completely -- this sometimes caused the microwave to not operate because it won't work unless the door is completely shut and latched. We called ALLEN MURPHY and they sent someone out to service the microwave. The repairman who came was great. After removing a few panels and the control panel so that he could access the door latches, the repairman told us that the frame around the door was bent, the control panel was improperly installed, and that several of the screws connecting the control panel to the frame were missing. More importantly, the repairman told us THAT IT WAS CLEAR TO HIM THAT SOMEONE HAD ALREADY OPENNED THIS MACHINE UP TO LOOK AT THESE PARTS. According to the repairman, the bent frame was causing the problem with the microwave door.
It appears that this microwave was previously sold to someone else and, when they experienced the same problem we had, someone openned the machine up to look at the problem and try to fix it. Only they did not fix it. To make things worse, someone then decided to try to pass this defective microwave off as a new machine.
The folks at ALLEN MURPHY told us that they had no knowledge of any of this and that this microwave came "straight out of the box." They previously had told us that this microwave was one that they had in stock -- in other words, they did not order this machine specifically for us. At this point, I have no way of knowing for sure who knew what when or who did what when, but it is obvious (1) that someone knew that this was a defective machine and (2) that someone decided to try to pass it off...
Read moreA few months back, we bought a used Kenmore washing machine from them and were told we had a 30 day warranty with it. Brought it home, hooked it up, and it was immediately out of balance on a small load. I called them the next business day and the receptionist said âtheyâll be out thereâ. No scheduled appointment or letting me know when they would show up. Days go by and I call back. I received attitude from the same receptionist telling me âtheyâre very busy and will fit me into the schedule when they have an openingâ and she hung up. Had my boyfriend call a few days later because they obviously didnât have time for me, and they said they would have a technician come out the next day. Finally, progress! Yet, no one showed up. He called again and was told a technician will be there by 4. He did not show up. Weâre on the third week by now of trying to have someone honor this warranty and we were told a technician will come out on his way to a service call in Atlanta. Guess who never showed? Now the warranty is up, and our washing machine is completely broken because we had to continue using it, off balanced. Iâm so unbelievably upset at the treatment we received. The attitude, the lack of consideration of our time, and never honoring the warranty will lead me to never shop with Allen...
Read moreBought a used and supposedly refurbished washer & dryer. The Washer was weird but worked itself out. Supposedly a new clutch was put in it that needed to just work in. It's fine now. The dryer on the hand was defective and squealed like a pig. The heat didn't work right and they let me pick out another for replacement. They exchanged it and the newer one failed and almost burnt my house down. It filled my whole house up with smoke and basically toasted my close. They were supposed to come back and fix it, but, haven't seen them yet on time of service stated.
UPDATE: They showed up the following day and supposedly fixed the dryer. It dried one load of towels on medium heat and then the same problem occurred again after that. The basement filled with smoke after drying a blanket and the blanket was to hot to touch. This was on low for 20 mins. I called them back and complained about it. The owner decided I wasn't worth it, so he decided to come pick it up and return my money.
Said he was tired of making the trips to the house. No honor I guess in the 60 day warranty. This left me with no dryer at all. They took my old dryer that actually worked, so I guess they made money on that end too.
I'll never go back and won't recommend...
