Practically everything that could go wrong, was wrong and I have the pictures to prove it. We stayed in the Hidden Retreat cabin.
First of all, when was the last time the railing and the stairs up to the cabin recieved any kind of care? They are so rough we dared not hang on to hit for fear of getting splinters, even though we were carrying heavy bags and it was raining and slippery.
The screen door lock doesnt work, nor does the top lock on the front door.
The shower train was clogged and very slow training. And we had to stand in it to shower, thank goodness we brought flip flops because we had to wear them in there. The toilet is a very tight space, so you might have to use some contorsion skills to conclude your business.
The bed was terrible. A super soft topper on top of a super soft bed, and all we got was a backache from it. The couch was like sitting on a concrete slab covered in leather. The fireplace didn't work. It just made a clicking sound. Wires exposed attached to a 9 volt battery to laying out in the open.
The smoke alarm wasn't on the wall but in the drawer with the battery removed. The fire extinguisher was out of date by 2 YEARS. I'm pretty sure that is illegal because not only would we not have been awakened by the smoke alarm if there was a fire but if we did awaken on our own, we might not have been able to use the fire extinguisher because it was long past its last check.
The rack in the freezer was rusty and you would probably would need a tetanus shot if you cut yourself on it. When we went to use your cooking supplies, everything had to be washed because they were greasy, from the pans to the utensils. The coffee pot was dirty and the coffee creamer was expired by almost two months. The tub barely filled with hot water a third of the way and we had to boil hot water in pots on the stove to fill it up.
The door to the outside electrical box was slamming all night long until I figured out what it was and balanced some of the old junk they had on the side of the cabin against it to stop it from slamming.
The bathroom sink drain had no plug and was very moldy.
And then to top it all off, an insurance inspector came knocking on our door on the last day because he was told by the owners that he could come and inspect and take pictures of the inside of the cabin while we were there. I politely declined and although he was very polite and said he would come back another time, he said the management gave him permission to do so. He said they should have told not only us but everyone else staying in cabins that weekend. Which of coarse you did not. And according to him, all the cabins he went to were suprised to see him and declined.
I do understand they had a flood and they are under new managment and are doing renovations. However we were not made aware of any these things and frankly they aren't our problem. They took our money knowing fully this cabin was not up to par. There is a word for people who do such things.
We came to decompress and what we got was more stress. So yeah, we won't be coming back to these cabins ever again. Which is a shame because they used to be nice. We paid almost $700 to stay at this cabin, that's a lot of money for what we ended up dealing with. I have tried to contact them multiple times, but all I have gotten back is spam texts and...
Read moreMy husband and I usually take a relaxing trip after the holidays alone. Friday 2nd week of January was our trip. Got there and fell in love with the cabin & noticed that it was attached to another cabin didn't think anything of it UNTIL Saturday night that was a nightmare. Around midnight we hear our neighbors talking loud and slamming playing cards on the table (we knew they were playing cards because you can hear them shuffling them) music blasting. Management is not on site which we didn't know until that night. Then we hear them screaming "the fire won't go out" in which they proceeded to use their front door to fan their room. Finally after they got that under control we were able to go back to sleep for less than an hour. Then AGAIN we hear them arguing and must have been drinking (guy in the cabin told the girl to be shut up that she must be drunk) we thought great even if we call the police they will know who called and know what we drive since your parking spot has the # of your cabin (yup parked next to them) we sure in hell didn't want to wake up to a vandalized vehicle. So then they decide to turn on the Jacuzzi which was so loud it vibrated the walls. That's when we said forget this mess and left we left at 4am back to Albuquerque our check out was that Sunday but we wanted to enjoy a last morning in Ruidoso, but with no rest how would that even be possible. Also, if you want to have personal relations in that cabin your neighbor will hear it because we heard it ALL. Once we got to Albuquerque we called and asked for the manager to inform he/she how awful the stay was and how thin the walls were and asked for partial refund for Saturday. The manager declined to talk to us and my husband was told that we could of called the police he informed the girl on the phone that the neighbors might have been drunk and did not want to deal with retaliation after the police left. So if you would like to stay in a place where your neighbor can hear everything and you don't mind management NOT on site then this is your place to stay. Not my place we have told all of our family and friends not to stay there. I am writing this review with my email address (in case they come back "we don't have a record of this person...
Read moreJust got here - cabin 2. Old place, kinda clean, however, main bedroom had that cleaning musty smell like they are trying to cover up another smell. Got near the head of the bed and there was the faint smell of cat piss. NOT GOOD. Bedroom only had one, two prong electrical outlet. They brought an extension cord around the bed to the nightstand. No place to charge my devices. One, small, window A/C unit for the whole cabin. And it was plugged into a 2-prong extension cord even though it was a 3-prong device. The extension cord also had a lamp plugged into it. They really only had 2, 3-prong outlets in the whole place, one for the fridge and microwave and a GFI at the sink Area. Everything else was plugged into extension cords everywhere because of a lack of outlets. Kinda dangerous if you ask me. For what we paid, I would have expected a place that was up to code with the proper types and number of outlets. Also I was floored by the cat piss smell at the head of the bed. Really? I am asking for a refund and finding another place. I cannot believe this place has a bunch of excellent reviews.
6/25/2021 - yes, I spoke face-to-face to Kris and, as it turns out, everything was upset about, they were in the process of fixing and upgrading. I just happened to come before they had time to complete the items. Judging from the rest of the grounds, I totally believe them. The cabins and grounds are next to perfect and well maintained. The people there are welcoming and friendly. You can't ask for much more than that. Upon reflection, I realize that I got in at 1am, after having driven 12 hours across Arizona and New Mexico. I was dead tired and because of that, I overreacted. Once I spoke to Kris and cleared the air, I felt and feel much better...
