Before I recall an experience I had earlier today with a customer service representative at St. Patrick's Guild, I need to say that I have made a number of purchases from this store that I have been very happy with. In the past, the staff has been both knowledgeable and helpful.
Earlier today, I called St. Patrick's Guild to ask if they had the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal in stock. The customer service agent who was assisting me responded to my question by telling me that they do not carry anything of that nature in their store and that I should try looking for the 1962 Missal at an antique bookstore. As a younger Catholic, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to develop an appreciation for both the Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms of the Mass. I have full knowledge that not everyone is aware or in favor of the Extraordinary Form and I respect that there are differing opinions on the matter. That being said, I find it surprising that St. Patrick's Guild does not carry this item or have knowledge of its frequent use in a number of Latin Masses throughout the Archdiocese.
The mainstream use of the 1962 Missal throughout the church was promulgated by Pope Benedict XVI in his 2007 motu proprio, Summorum Pontificum. In light of the insights revealed within this Apostolic Letter, it would be truly wonderful to see your store offer customers who receive spiritual nourishment from the Extraordinary Form of the Mass the option to order the 1962 Missal upon request. It’s availability for purchase in this area’s premiere Catholic Store would be of extreme importance to many Twin...
Read moreThis is a great place to find religious gifts. They have other lovely items as well. The book collection is immense. They have Bibles, and, lots, more than that, in books. Marriage books, lots of other types besides. Decorative wall items. Don't forget to look at the Irish section. Lots of nice things. Sweaters, hats, things for the home, and things to eat. Yummy! St. Patrick's Guild has CDs. They have a HUGE children's section, quite apart from the absolutely LOVELY First Holy Communion dresses and veils, for all young ladies. The young men who are making their First Holy Communion are not forgotten. There are ties, and other items to treasure. Shop here first and you won't need to go anywhere else. While you are there, look at the expanded Baby section. Church Goods is awesome! Rosaries, yep, you can't have too many rosaries. I keep one in the car. Don't you find prayer is helpful for driving? Or waiting, in or on a line.Garden items are extensive. Don't forget to pick up a package of Kindness Coins. They are reasonably priced. We can all use a little kindness now, can't we? Save one for me, won't you? Check out the website as well. They have reviews of some products. P. S. No, I...
Read moreCould've been a nice experience, but they major targeted me and my sister as shoplifters and stalking us throughout the store by the 3 people working there (man, woman, and young teen). They tensed up and exchanged concerned looks the second we walked in. No one else in the store was treated like this. We were well dressed- biz casual and raincoats (it was a rainy day). Maybe we look too ethnic or not old enough as the demographic is middle aged white Irish Americans.
I said nothing to my sister the whole time I observed this but she shared the same experience after we left, even noticing the tag-teaming to keep tabs on us. Disgraceful.
As a Catholic, y'all need to check your biases and go to confession. Born n raised practicing Catholic and worked at a family biz Catholic store for years myself, so it's not excuse of just doing your job. Doing your job should not involve making your brothers and sisters feel uncomfortable or unwelcome for who they are.
I bought one thing just to be kind. I didn't have to and shouldn't have. Do better. I'll...
