Minneapolis Coffee Shop | Spyhouse

Minneapolis Coffee Shop | Spyhouse

A classic Minnesota coffee shop, now unfortunately, featuring prices that are even higher than their chain competitors like Starbucks and Caribou. After tax, I paid close to eight dollars for their signature, spy, girl latte, and I recall it tasting much better in the past, this one was a bit disappointing, as it tasted so watered down, it was really hard to describe, but the rich flavor I once remembered, now seem to be missing. As always, though the staff was very friendly, even though service seem to be quite slow on this particular Monday morning. Perhaps I will return soon and try a coffee with a different type of milk and flavoring. Regardless, I would still rather give house my money then to a big corporate chain. The spy house this one in particular are still really good places to work and work and meet friends.

Great hip coffee shop in Mac Grove area. Plenty of free street parking, outdoor seating in the back, nice ambience with plants and bright lighting, good WiFi signal, kind baristas, lots of drink options, and good selection of delicious baked goods from Black Walnut Bakery and Mojo Monkey. Giving 4 stars due to spendier prices. I had their signature iced Spygirl which is a lavender and honey latte. It's really smooth and not overly sweet, however, it's $6 so definitely on the pricier side. Would have liked it with oat milk but would have been an extra 75 cents. Also had an almond croissant that was fantastic but $4.75. Wasn't super busy on a Sunday morning so I was able to find many open tables.

Terrible customer service with mediocre coffee. I've been to two other Spyhouses and always thought their coffee drinks wonderfully described, but underwhelming; however, I stopped at this one as each branch of a chain can be different. I ordered two drinks on a Saturday pre-COVID. The shop was terribly understaffed with just two people serving at least 15 customers when I arrived as there were families lounging about. The girl running the register was pleasant if a little overwhelmed and the guy making the drinks was heads down. Patiently waited another 20 min or so for my order but one of the drinks was the wrong size. When I said as much to the guy making the coffee, he yelled angrily that I needed to talk to the girl at the register because he was busy. At this point, the order line was out the door as more families had come in. I was considering disputing the charge with my credit card company and leaving when Mr. Angsty fig'd out it prob was more efficient if he either remade the drink or confirmed with the other employee directly. After much soul searching, he begrudgingly made the drink I wanted then was magnanimous enough to inform me that I had the option to take the other drink as he was just going to toss it. I would like to support a local coffee spot, but this guy was so offputting that I've never cared to stop in again even though I have to drive past to get to a Caribou or Starbucks. Definitely pass on this place unless you are seeking to be served by the moody, lifesucks type that likes to pretend they grew up poor, but finds Midway scary. You...

I did an online order pick up here this morning for a couple drinks and a pastry. I got a text saying the order would be ready at 9:35, and at 9:50 I asked if my order was ready because I only saw one drink sitting at the online pickup area, no second drink or pastry.

The person working told me that someone may have taken my drink, and asked what it was. He made me another after I asked about it, but it just felt a little underwhelming that that was the extent of the resolution. It’s obviously not their fault (though I think if they labeled drink cups it would be clearer for people and this would happen less).

They were crazy busy, and I think it’s because they make good drinks and have a good atmosphere. It made me wonder if maybe they might think about making their pickup counter more efficient and user friendly. They don’t put names or labels on drinks, and many drinks look the same, and there is not enough room near the pickup area when they’re busy for every person waiting to be able to see what drinks they’re calling out. A few people near me seemed confused or annoyed about not knowing whose drink was whose. I probably won’t come back because I’ve had a couple of experiences here that made me feel annoyed and there are other coffee shops, and I think that’s probably fine with them: they have a lot of willing customers! I feel like a huge Karen right now but… just wanted to share my thoughts because the issues I saw in the shop today w/r/t lack of clarity and organization feel...

I went to the St. Paul location with my friend today around 2PM. My friend is blind and uses a Seeing Eye Dog. As we were getting our drinks the barista that was taking our order asked if he could give the dog a treat, my friends politely declined (since his dog was working). The barista then asked if he could pet the dog, my friend also politely declined for the same reason. Most people understand that when a service dog is working it is recommended that individuals do not try to interact. No problem that the staff member did know that but we were absolutely shocked by what happened next.... After we had sat down with our drinks the barista came to our table to inform us that we needed to leave since their policy is that dogs are not allowed in the store when dining in. I explained that it was a Service Dog (she had on her vest and harness) but the barista stated that is was a new policy that you cannot have a dog sit with you in the shop. I've never experienced that in my life and couldn't believe we were treated that way. My friend then contacted the manager and explained the situation. The manager informed us the staff member was new and did know their policy which was that Service Dogs were allowed. The manager also offered a gift card...... The whole situation was incredibly awkward ridiculous. We will...
