Update: I recommend that when you shop at this HEB that you bring cash. Many of the registers have messed up pay points that cannot for some reason read the security chip in the card. You can use the magnetic strip which is far less secure or you CAN PAY WITH CASH. I've brought to the attention of management twice to no avail. They simply WILL NOT FIX THEIR PAYPOINTS. Of course if you bring it to the attention of the management and they don't fix their machines that let's you know why they're broken in the first place. The other machines that are broken are their scales. Weigh your bulk fruit/vegetables on the scale in produce as the scales at the register charge two 2Ā¢to 4Ā¢ more using the scale at register. This is another issue I've brought to the attention of the management to no avail! Basically, it DOES NO GOOD to bring ANY ISSUES TO the ATTENTION OF MANAGEMENT! It takes all of their energy, attention and focus to do their simple grocer tasks therefore anything that takes initiative, drive, leadership and problem solving skills they have no capability for. These are "yes men" policy enforcers and little more. It's up to the customer to enforce change and improvement at their local HEB!
Update: 7 Aug 2023. I just bought a half gallon of HEB brand half and half and carted it around the store and to home in an insulated bag with ice packs so it never was exposed to any heat. That was two days ago. I just retrieved it from the refrigerator, opened it, poured some into my coffee and it was already spoiling as was evidenced by separation particles floating in my coffee as well as the flavor! I've come across so many issues with bad dairy at this HEB that I WILL NO LONGER BUY DAIRY PRODUCTS or any SHORT LIFE COLD STORAGE PRODUCTS from this:
HEB. 9238 N Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78249
A few weeks ago I found two Kozy Shack tapioca pudding containers on the shelf, one at a month past it's date and another at two weeks. I alerted the manager on duty, a young attractive woman, who was glad to let me know that HEB no longer had the "find it bad, get one for free program," she immediately turned heel and left after quickly and confidently regurgitating the policy, but did not address the more important issue of expired food on the shelf.
22 Dec 2022. Ahem, ok, so here we are again! Be fair warned if you purchase HEBās QUICHE from their SIMPLE MEAL section. It was choc full of inedible bits of hard broccoli stalk! See photos (amongst the myriad of other photos)! Iām beginning to discern that this HEB and perhaps others is masquerading as a grocer of quality but itās becoming ever apparent that itās merely a store of quantity!
18 Dec 2022. Iām really not trying to pick on HEB, butā¦I just keep running into these situations that HEB creates. I usually park on the left side of the store ( from the vantage of facing the store), but this night on the right. When I exited I stayed on the sidewalk with my cart because that was the safest way to roll and a shopper should have that right. My car was slightly around the corner. When I got to the area in the photo, shoppers entering the store were also on the sidewalk as that is the safest route for them, but it isnāt wide enough for two way walking traffic, especially if you have a cart. I studied the area as there is a lot of sidewalk square footage, but none for shoppers itās all for shopping carts! HEB EVEN BLOCKED THE AREA WITH CARTS WHERE SHOPPERS WITHOUT CARTS COULD WALK TO INTENTIONALLY RESTRICT SHOPPERS FROM WALKING TO THE RIGHT OF THE BARRIER!!! What genius employees think this passive aggressive sh*t up?! Iām a disabled vet so I donāt want to walk in the street as I cannot quickly dodge the idiot driving with eyeballs on phone š± or the one with glazed over eyeballs and head in cloud who might run me over! Trust me itās almost happened several times right in this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was in last month in January 2025. I purchased a ASF Smoker from HEB The cost was $1699.99 plus tax I also purchased 2 screw in temperature gauges they were about $13.00 each no big deal but thats all they had and I wanted to get it home and get busy getting it ready to use soon. Well, the gauges did not keep a accurate readings (neither one) Every cooker know how important temperatures are when grilling. So I ordered some straight from ASF and spent the $59.95 each and called it a day. After that I called HEB and spoke to someone in customer service told them what had happened, they under stood and they told me that all I needed was the old Temperature gauges and the receipt or the card I used to buy them with and they would refund me or give me a gift card to use next time I was in. We had the freeze here and I didnt have a chance to go so I waited until it was more convenient. I went yesterday 02-04-2025 and spoke with a very nice man at the Customer Service counter and he said since I could not supply the receipt, which I did misplaced. that he needed to call his manager. that was fine. Except this lady was on a mission. I don't know if maybe this was a bad day for her, me or everyone there. Maybe since I was in sweat pants and an old shirt (from walking at the school) but I was in trouble! She made me feel like I was a thief and I was just looking for something free. Her name is TONIA STEVENSON. When we started talking I attempted to try and explain the problem I experienced with the Temperature gauges that the temperature is very important when cooking on a grill but she cut me off stating that it is HEB's policy to send the items back to the manufacture to have them tested etc..etc.. I tried to tell her that did not make sense, that I had called and was instructed to return for credit or refund she said I needed to just calm down and let her speak. It went South after that. I was in line with numerous other customers just watching what was taking place and how she was acting towards me, The employees as well. Then she wanted me to show her the receipt from ASF where I in fact did buy different one and needed to prove it to her, I told her that was irrelevant but she insisted then she wanted me to go get the sku number from the original one I bought with the smoker and show her that one, then what date did I buy them and I needed proof. It was like i was a dancing bear in a circus. She wanted to show me who was in control! It got worse when I told her this was crazy and she lacked Customer Service. After all that she had the man give me a gift card for the $26.00 I spent on the inaccurate temp gauges. Then when I told her why did you make me do all of that and she could see the frustration in my face she looked at me with a smirk on her face and while I was still talking she just turned around and walked away leaving me standing there like a crazy person. I did then raise my voice and tell her that she cannot make someone this angry and not finish the conversation. I was totally humiliated there and don't know if I will ever go back. We to are a local family owned and operated business here in san antonio with 16 stores. Just this past Christmas purchased over 300 dozen tamales from HEB and 60 Briskets for our company Picnic.. You just never know who you are talking to. No one deserves to be treated like I was. I just don't know why she had me jump through all these hoops and then give me my $26 back. I kept asking her why as she was walking away from me and I am sure the whole store knew how humiliated I was feeling. I deserved an explanation. It was uncalled for. I hope this does not fall on deaf ears and I am sure that I am not the only one that has been treated this way. Good luck HEB. -...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey say everything is bigger in Texas, but sometimes bigger is not always better. Let's start with parking. As a former retail employee, you are taught to always park farthest away from the store to let the customers park up front. This is not enforced here. If you go within the first hour of opening, you'd think to see most of the cars parked in the very back of the parking lot. Nope, every row has the first several spots filled. This minor inconvenience goes a long way when you are a frequent visitor. Secondly, the "home living" section that feels like it takes up 50% of the store is an extremely inefficient use of space. They've changed it up many times just to not have a single soul browsing through there. As a result, the entire back row of the store (meat market to dairy) has customers packed in like sardines playing bumper cars with the carts. This is an extremely inefficient and unpleasurable shopping experience. I dread looking down that aisle when I turn left from the meat market area. I get it, selling one cow hide rug is the cost of a full cart of groceries, but that risk of disgruntled customers cannot be worth the reward of profit margin. This is a great Segway to my next point... Did HEB specifically contract someone to build carts twice the size of a normal cart? These things are unnecessarily large. I get the idea, bigger store, bigger grocery tab, but filling that cart up would cost $1,000 easily. Nobody is doing that. I shop for a family of 4 and those miniature carts are good enough but are limited. As a local resident, I cannot wait until the new Babcock and 1604 location opens, I don't need a 30 minute shopping experience just to get eggs and milk. I understand the principle of placing the essentials like meat and dairy farthest away from the door to encourage upselling of dry grocery, but there has to be a more efficient way than to waste half the sales floor on home decor and slam everyone into a 15 foot corridor. Everyone looks stressed out in that aisle. Another ridiculous thing is when they first open, only the self checkout near produce is open, the self checkout near pharmacy is closed. This is also an inconvenience when you purposely park on that side of the already huge parking lot just to get an item or two. What's one more entry level employee cost to man that station. With all that being said, this HEB location is still good. Being the biggest store there's always a vast selection of items, from local budget friendly, to pre-prepped, to premium cuts of meat, to obscure imported organic options. The massive inventory rarely sells out of crucial items. The store is also always clean and kept up with. The staff is always friendly. It also serves as a great tourist location to take your friends and family from out of town who don't have HEB. I would just like to see such a big footprint of a store have a more efficient...
