Renting a car here was a nightmare, and the customer service was absolutely terrible.
I misplaced my car key and called their roadside assistance. They created a ticket and instructed me to take the car to the Oakland airport at 1050 Langley St. and drop off the current car while picking up the replacement. The agent assured me that the exchange car was waiting and that I should go there since they had been informed.
I arranged for a towing service and arrived at the Oakland airport. However, there was no one at the maintenance garage to accept the car. I contacted the customer service department, who advised me to take the car to the Thrifty rental drop-off location at Oakland. I followed their instructions and dropped off the car.
The associates at the Thrifty rental accepted the car, but when I went inside to pick up the exchange, they informed me that they couldnāt provide a pickup service and couldnāt accept the drop-off. They suggested that I take the car to SFO instead.
Its stupidly annoying that i had to do most of the running out to find any information. I had to request another tow order and loaded the car onto a tow truck. I arrived at the SFO location at 177 South Airport Blvd, South SFO, CA, 94080, which was provided by Thrifty. At this point, they were aware that my car was on a tow truck. However, when I arrived at the rental location, there was no clearance for both the tow truck to enter the garage.
Frustrated, I called the roadside assistance again, but their assistance was useless at this point. I asked if there was another building where i should take the car, they said they have no idea. It had only made my situation worse. The customer service representative advised me that I needed a specific type of tow truck or should use their tow service. They couldnāt provide any further assistance.
At this point, I had to unload the car from the tow truck and physically push it inside the garage. This was a physically demanding task and i am not very physically able, but I had to do it myself to resolve the issue.
Customer service did nothing but just rude at me by saying that you made a reservation from the 3rd party and i should just...

If I could give zero stars, I would. My familyās once-in-a-lifetime holiday was nearly ruined at the very start by the disgraceful conduct of Thrifty at San Francisco Airport.
I had a confirmed booking to collect a car After an 11-hour flight with two young children, my 76-year-old father in law and my wife, we were exhausted but relieved to finally reach the car desk. Instead of handing us the vehicle we had booked months in advance, we were told we had āmissedā the reservation because we were a day late My paperwork, however, clearly showed the correct date.
Despite presenting the proof, the staff repeatedly insisted that I was at faultāeven suggesting I had changed the booking myself. To add insult to injury, the only āsolutionā they offered was to charge me an outrageous $1500 extra for an āupgrade,ā since the car I had booked was āno longer available.ā Due to me being a day late when clearly my paper work showed correct dates.
The manager outright refused to come out and speak to us, leaving us stranded, humiliated, and forced into a corner. With two crying children, an elderly parent close to collapse, and no assistance from Thrifty whatsoever, I had no choice but to pay the extortionate additional fee just to get a car.
This is nothing short of daylight robbery. The customer service was arrogant, dismissive, and utterly devoid of compassion. Instead of helping a tired family at the end of a long-haul journey, Thrifty exploited us at our most vulnerable moment.
The so called upgrade was a basic car with almost 50k miles on the clock!.
Thrifty San Francisco Airport should be ashamed. They ruined the start of a holiday we had spent a year planning, left me financially out of pocket, and treated us with utter contempt.
My advice to anyone thinking of booking with Thrifty DONāT. Save yourself the stress, the humiliation, and the financial exploitation. Choose literally any other...
