The lake itself is pretty nice. Pretty clean, well maintained, nice paths/trails/etc. Great place to fish, walk, ride your bike, etc. The only real "issue"-and in my opinion, a BIG one, is some of the people that you encounter there. This place always seems to have a very large number of people with absolutely no common sense, manners, or consideration for those around them. Despite the speed limit and "keep to the right/pass on the left" signs, you experience way too many bicyclists FLYING by at ridiculous speeds, and clueless walkers and joggers putzing along either right in the middle of the road, or on the far left side-going against the flow of traffic. It's amazing how many people can't seem to figure out how it works.....just dorking along completely oblivious to anything going on around them. Also, watch out for big piles of dog poop left right in the travel lanes by inconsiderate pet owners. Still a pretty nice place to ride or walk, despite the high number of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really feel like I should give this spot 5 stars. I guess I won't because I wish the loop was longer. I run this loop about three to four times a month and I always notice something I didn't notice before.
THINGS TO DO: You can rent kayaks, a paddle boat, bikes, and tandem bikes. The tandem bikes are a little pricey per hour, especially with how short the loop is.
-Run (or walk if you hate running, lol)! It's a five mile loop on pavement! For those that like trail running, there is a lower trail by the lake and one that goes up the hills above the pavement trail. I have not done it so I don't know how long it is. Just telling you it's there!
Birding. I've seen a few birders out there. Looked online and a sandpiper has been spotted out there, along with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreParking is bad in the morning here, and it takes a lot longer to walk than you'd expect. However, Miramar is outdoorsy, at least for being in the middle of the city. It is beautiful in winter after the rains. We love to watch the sunset over the city and ocean in the distance. We usually only walk 1/2 a mile in one direction and turn back. It is super close to the library and trader Joe's and my church (Family Life Church) so sometimes we'll spend hours hitting all of those places.
My kids go to school here once a week with Soaring Minds Speciality Program with their charter school. They do boating, fishing, looking at fish anatomy, fort-building, etc...and writing here....
