One star for the always friendly staff. I had high hopes for the ownership’s change but for now I’ll go elsewhere for items that are no longer carried here. At times the music volume is too loud, especially the blaring station breaks/ads. My requests to restock items seem to be ignored. They have limited Asian food offerings but increased selection in the pet food section. The produce looks more clean and fresh but with far less organic choices. It seems like there’s more prepackaged carb-sugar items, but no more variety of local fresh bread. There are now cakes in place of banh mi. There’s more toilet tissue in large bulk quantity with smaller, more expensive or perfumey options. TP might be a small thing but it’s a staple. As a city dweller with minimal space maybe consider introducing portable bidets so the only choice isn’t having to spend more...
Read moreThis supermarket is stocked with fresh veggies, organic produce, and a variety of your Asian fundamentals - from Sriracha to Vietnamese fish sauce! Since I cook with pretty specific Asian sauces, there are a couple I know they don't sell (e.g. light soy sauce, some Indian spices) but for the most part they have everything. I was pleasantly surprised that they sold premium beers, cheeses, and even my favorite tofu noodles!
Their Banh Mi is pretty good - large and substantial. I prefer to come here for their giant spring rolls, and their deli meats. I also love the lady who works in the meat section, she is always so friendly and nice! Love the pork sandwich was is only $5.
The head cheese can be purchased by the pound is fatty and delicious.
Pro-Tip: They take credit cards (including Amex!) for...
Read moreSupermarket within 3-4 blocks of Dolores park. Get your sandwich, drank/drink/snacks here and then chill in the park. LOTS of variety, surprisingly lots of organic options in an Asian market. It's a straight up market where they have meat, fruit, veggies, EVERYTHING! Though I think most people are drawn here to pick up food for Dolores Park, alot of locals come here to shop for their groceries as well.
$5 for banh mi, which is a great deal and totally beats a $10 banh mi that I saw at Bi-Rite market (jeebus!!!)
Bread is good and fresh, fresh and good ratio of ingredients. Be sure to ask for no jalapeno if you're sensitive to spicy. Plus points for vegetarian options! They also have non-Vietnamese sandwiches that looked pretty good as well. Will be stopping by more often for my Dolores...
