CornerstoneSF Church - Mission Campus (Sunday 10:00am at Riordan campus) — Attraction in San Francisco

Cornerstone is the main reason I'm still in San Francisco.  There are 4 things I value most about this church body:

Multi-Generational Discipleship - When I first moved to SF, I thought I wanted a church that was primarily 20/30s.  But I can't begin to describe the depths of wisdom that I've been blessed to tap into by being part of a multi-generational church.  I've been mentored by my pastors and small group leaders, who have shepherded me through many personal challenges and growth areas.  I've have had the blessing of doing life with friends through varying life stages.  I can confidently say that I'd be an entirely different person without Pastor Terry/Sheryl and Pastor Luis/Jean discipleship.

"The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old."

(And they don't even have THAT many gray hairs ;)...)

Diligence / Excellence - I've invited several friends to church, and they have all commented on the excellence of each service.  The church body puts in great care to make you feel God's love as soon as you walk in the door.  You'll be greeted by our parking team, guided to a seat by our ushering team, invited to seek prayer with our prayer team, refreshed with toast/coffee by our Cornerstone Cafe team, and welcomed to stay connected by our "New Here" team.  Our worship team serves from 7AM to 1PM every Sunday (not including practice time) to bring us into the Lord's presence with their musical talents.  Everything here is done with a standard of excellence - not for men, but for the Lord.

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."

Service - The job of staff is to equip its church members to serve.  Humans were created to serve, and we feel most fulfilled when we're living into that purpose.  Every year when I look back on the times I felt most fulfilled, I think of the spaces where Cornerstone has encouraged and challenged me to use my gifting and talents to build up the church.  Cornerstone's staff facilitates volunteer fairs, new member classes, and a variety of ministries to help us find places where we can grow into what the Lord has prepared each of us to do.

"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Community - Before Cornerstone, I never considered staying in a city largely for my church community.  But my sisters and brothers at Cornerstone have taught me what true community is made of:  commitment, sacrifice, and perseverance.  Pastor Terry and his family set the tone here with their 60+ year commitment to San Francisco, which they've seen as their mission field since 1953.  Cornerstone small groups and ministry teams are where I've built my strongest friendships in SF, and I continue to be inspired daily by how this community rallies around each other in times of both crisis and celebration.

"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

A cornerstone is a stone that serves as a stable foundation for a building and endures the test of time.  For the past 5 years, Cornerstone has served as this stable foundation for my faith journey.  There's a reason that the church has survived and grown for 60+ years in one of the most "unchurched" cities in the US, and that reason is leadership's rootedness and faith in the Lord.

I love this church and am so excited to see what the Lord continues to do in San Francisco through this...

I would like to highlight the quality of the community. I have been part of the Cornerstone community for over a decade when I first moved to America. They have truly become my family, and have impacted my life in ways too numerous to list in one "review." Most notably, the Cornerstone community was instrumental in helping me survive the death of my wife after our son was born. They rallied behind me, supported me tangibly, and still to this day provide me with help, support, and hope. I could not have made it through that time without them. I still need them, and am incredibly grateful for the quality of people that have come into my life through those doors.

It can be hard to find a place to fit in no matter where you go, and it takes time to connect deeply with anyone in any place, but I found my people, my family, at Cornerstone (I met my wife here!), and, if you allow it time, I hope you will too!

I agree with what most people will say about the message, music and art - high quality, of depth, and enjoyable! And I also love the balance of grace and truth, and I love that ALL are accepted into the Lord's house to worship and...

I parked in front of this church Friday, 9:17pm. I was forced to phone the police because a group of Cornerstone Church members threatened violence if I was to leave my car parked there.

It was in fact a passenger loading zone enforceable until 9pm. This group was expecting a large bus that could not fit in the space even if I had moved. I’m flabbergasted at the behavior of these church members. I asked the clergy to assist and they remained unhelpful. Stating “we cannot control what our church members do or say.” This group of screaming unhinged church goers certainly painted Cornerstone in a bad light. I have recorded the incident, and filed a police report.

There is no excuse for church members to openly threaten violence. No misunderstanding on parking as a bus cannot fit in a compact car space. And absolutely unacceptable that church staff did not intervene...
