SHAMED by instructors in DIRTY 24 clubs.
24 Hour Fitness Clubs no longer have corporate accountability. I was told that by a manager it's been since Covid "after" asking on the website every week for 4 weeks to speak to corporate and was ignored by corporate. So the 24 Hour Fitness Clubs are ALL DIRTY or FILTHY depending on the manager.
And some of the instructors unprofessionally SHAMED me for not being able to keep up.
The first week, it was Jamez at the Milpitas location shamed me because I couldn't keep up. But at least it wasn't in front of the whole class as Marylou at the Santa Teresa, San Jose location did 8 months later.
After Mean Marylou humiliated me in front of the entire class stating that I was tired and only able to move my arms over the microphone to everyone, I tried to defend myself after class telling her that I'd rather stand and barely move for an hour than lay in bed for an hour. She told me next time to leave the room. I told her I could go in the equipment room in the back, but she repeated to LEAVE!
I don't really understand why she picked on me after 8 months when I had started 8 months before I was clutching the walls just to make it through, sometimes barely moving, and had to stop and stretch way way more in the beginning.
I have always made sure to stay out of the way of everybody in the classes. And in Marylou's class it's very easy because her class attendance is so low I'm like an average of 10 feet from the closest person.
I see other slow seniors and she never picks on them. I see them as inspirational, because it's better to move, even slowly with breaks, than not to move at all.
I even occasionally see seniors using a walker at the gyms. I once held a door open for an elderly lady with a walker for over a minute to get inside one of the 24 gyms, admiring her spunk for simply going, even though it was the slowest pace I had ever seen in a gym. I suppose some gym bullies think she should stay home and die in bed.
There are also strong energetic seniors in the classes that have more energy than most instructors and members. They are my biggest inspirations and that's where I strive to be! But when unprofessional instructors demotivate me, it makes it more difficult to simply show up.
I've come so far and I never want to be in any wheelchair ever again. It's a horrible place to be for me. Sometimes I'm not always physically able to use my supplemental oxygen and that affects my energy level. So as I'm struggling to get my health back I'm feeling bullied or intimidated by some 24 Hour instructors. That's NOT NICE!
Imagine if all the unprofessional instructors bullied, intimidated, or shamed all the slow senior members and they quit? That might be as much as 20% to 25% of members gone! Or how about ALL the senior members then maybe 40% to 50% of the members gone. How long would this gym survive without any senior members?
ALL the instructors should be required to make 24 Hour Fitness a safe, comfortable, and even a fun place to work out for ALL the members or they should not work there.
MOST 24 Hour Fitness instructors are fun or super fun, motivating with good or great energy and have ACCEPTANCE for all levels of activity.
Most instructors say things such as, it's "YOUR WORKOUT" go at your own pace, modify as needed, take a break if you need to, etc. but I'm supposed to leave Marylou's class when I can't keep up? Who can't even start her classes on time!
Mean Marylou has made the rest of my year membership miserable, but I made a commitment to myself and I will endure and get my health back.
My next gym membership will be the library gyms, less than a third of the cost. I was never shamed when I went in the past. And they were clean.
After being shamed by two different instructors, I don't feel that 24 Hour Fitness is a safe, comfortable environment to workout, because who is the next instructor to shame or bully me for not meeting his or her standards.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreHow can a company claim to care about your health and fitness but not take any interest in the well being and lives of their customers? I am truly disgusted by the business ethnics of 24 hour fitness. They are taking advantage of people during this pandemic. In a time where we need to be looking out for each other and caring for one another, 24 hour fitness has revealed itās only motives are profit driven and has shown its self for the greedy corporation it is. I signed up with the Santa Teresa location just before the pandemic in March, and I was told I was signing up for a no contract, month to month, $24.00 a month membership. However I was only able to use the gym a few times before they shut down with no notice due to COVID. The lack of communication from the company is disappointing, from when they closed to when they re-opened. I called the Santa Teresa location this morning when I realized I had an assortment of charges from 24 hour gym, all for different amounts and at different times of the month. Fitness manager Paul answered the phone and looked up my account to help determine what was going on. Paul could not effectively explain why the amount charged had been so inconsistent. He could only explain that I would have had to freeze or cancel my account prior and that when the gym opened it automatically resumed the billing cycle. Based off of what Paul told me, the gym closed suddenly a few months, opened for a very short amount of time, closed again and only now are they re opening. Capitalizing of the confusion of these rapid changes during the pandemic is Unethical. When I inquired further about a refund and told Paul I felt like the company had taken advantage of this situation, Paulās replay was āI donāt see it that wayā and continued to inform me that there was nothing that could be done. Even when I asked for the corporate number he insisted that corporate would feel the same way. Paulās customer service was extremely offensive. 24 hour gym has made various withdrawals from my account, and since I havenāt even used their gym for an entire year, the least they could do is provide competent staff and quality customer service. Paul should not be a manager or work within the customer service industry. Itās a shame to have people who care so little about their job and that have such disregard for other people. Itās unfortunate that Paul represents 24 hour fitnesses this way. Amidst this global pandemic, where many people were laid off, many are stressed due to these rapid and ongoing changes, where many have shifted their focus to the health of themselves and their family and away from the normal day to day things and when the gym might be the last thing on peopleās minds... I certainly hope that 24 hour fitness does not support the mindset of Paul at the Santa Teresa location. Please replace Paul with someone more qualified for that position and consider a more effective way of doing business during these uncertain times. The charge I received today from the gym was in the amount of $44.70, which is different from the $24.00 I was told I would be paying a month, and different from the $36.70 that Paul said was on file. From what I recall from the few times I had been to the Santa Teresa location is that the gym was filthy, bathrooms smelled disgusting, weights un racked and scattered on the floor but not a single employee cleaning or keeping the gym presentable or sanitary. This particular gym was not open 24 hours before the pandemic and offers even less amenities now. No one in their right mind would pay that much monthly for a gym membership, especially a gym of such low quality. Itās outrageous that a company would charge as much, or more, than they were previously, while offering less services, and all under the guise of the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBig shot out to Miguel!
I signed up a yearly membership for my son with autism. Got him PT sessions of 8 for certain price. Went to his first session together to make sure the coach (Let's call her Sandy) knows his disability. Everything went well. At the end, Sandy wanted to schedule for further sessions. She asked once or twice a week. My son wanted once a week. We settled on Wednesdays.
The next months, another bill was charged. Thankfully, I used limited fund debit card so the payment did not go thru.
It turned out, the 8 sessions were supposed to be used in one month.
Coach Sandy should have reminded us that if we schedule the PT session only once a week, we'd lose the 4 sessions. She was more than happy to set it once a week.
We understand it was miscommunication. However, when I talked on the phone with GM, asked about the charge and why 8 session per month was not clearly communicated - I felt the GM (Not using his name out of respect) - was annoyed. He did cancel the occurring PT session but the 2nd invoice was not removed. Since then, GM did not reply to my two emails requesting to remove the invoice from the account. He did remove the occuring billing so he received my email for sure. I felt very much ignored.
Today, I talked to Miguel over the phone - I recently cancelled Anytime Fitness due to financial reason. I know how to work the equipment. I do miss the clean and less crowded environment but 24 has everything I need - so I signed up.
Miguel helped me to sign up over the phone and he also showed empathy over my son's situation. He assured that it'll be taken care of and if my son is hesitant to go in due to unpaid PT invoice, he'll print out free passes for him - so that my son would feel comfortable. If you know anyone with autism, you'll know they are rule followers. Something is wrong with the membership? They won't go. Verbal assurance does little to help their uneasiness. Miguel knew exactly how to solve the issue and offered great solution to the situation.
Thank you Miguel! I'll see you soon!
(BTW, only 4 stars because the facility is indeed a bit outdated. But staffs work hard and they do the best they can do to keep the...
