Larry's Hallmark Shop — Local services in San Jose

Sadly, I had an awful experience at Larry’s Hallmark. I’ve been shopping here over several years (I have a family member who collects ornaments...).I picked out an ornament and was shopping further, when a sales clerk later told me that “you have to use a cart”. I asked her to please just put my purchase up front while I shopped since I didn’t want to carry a square plastic thing around the (cramped) store with such a small item (also carrying a previous shopping bag and heavy leather purse). It seemed odd, but then I quickly noticed all other customers in the store were also carrying Things, but none were using the cart/basket. The store was fairly busy and customers were holding all kinds of items in hand as they shopped. This action was so unprofessional. She clearly communicated she thought I had petty theft at heart. All over a half price Christmas ornament...I understand stores have issues with customers and shrinkage and must protect merchandise. But, as a longtime manager myself, the staff needs much better training. I won’t be...

I was going to a retirement party this afternoon so I called the Hallmark store to see if they had any retirement gifts. A very nice polite lady told me that they do have retirement related gifts so I said, “Great I’ll see you soon.” When I got to the store, I asked a sales associate, where the retirement gifts were. Carol, who had answered my phone call earlier overheard me ask her where the retirement gifts were and she quickly called me over to the cashiers counter. I couldn’t believe how nice and kind she was. She had collected all the retirement gifts and had them behind the counter instead of me, having to go down the aisle to find them. She was so efficient she already had them ready to go at the counter. What amazing customer service. I want to thank her for her exemplary...

Not sure what's going on with the customer service here. I've been coming here ever since a was a little girl and have always loved coming here. They've always sold us the display ornament if they were out of the boxed ornament before Christmas but I was told today they weren't selling the displays until after Christmas even though at least 6 displays were missing. I thought that's ok maybe it's a new policy no big deal. Then my son was going to pick out some candy and he was told not to touch the candy by an employee when he reached out to grab the candy he wanted after he was already told he couldn't get the ornament he wanted. I don't know why the employees were being rude to a 2 year old but we won't be coming back. I'm so bummed and...
