I strongly advise anyone with a child that has special needs to steer clear of this school. They do not honor IEP's and offer no support. Also if you decide to have your child attend Calops, opt in for recorded zoom meetings so that the staff can also be held accountable for what is said during the meetings.
My son was struggling with classes and getting overwhelmed by the work. He has an IEP for autism and a learning disorder and it was not taken into consideration. I asked for an emergency meeting to try and come up with a plan to give him (and myself) more support. The meeting ended up being a 3 on one hour long session of me being ridiculed by the middle school vice principal. I was repeatedly asked why I wanted to keep my son at their school if his grades were so poor. She kept suggesting that he go back to his regular brick and mortar school. When I said there was a very serious incident at his brick and mortar school that made him justifiably uncomfortable to return they told me that he could get over it and return since the incident was 2 years ago. When I said I was looking into hiring a tutor to help him the vice principal insinuated that I couldn't afford or find someone who would be reliable. Every solution I suggested was met with discouraging words. I requested the meeting to get help with finding resources and support, but was only met with passive aggressive behavior from the staff. They made us feel unwanted and offered no help or solutions.
During the meeting I was asked why I didn't make sure he attended speech. I told them that we never got a call back after his initial evaluation, and my emails and calls about the matter were never answered. The homeroom teacher said well I doubt it was our mistake but when she checked sure enough it was an error on their part. He was supposed to be in speech the entire year but a form wasn't completed on their end so he never got a call back to attend speech class. I was told he would get speech over the summer and he would get the 23 sessions he was promised before the end of this year, but they dropped the ball on that too. The speech classes would have changed the way his school year went drastically and helped our family a lot. The fact that we were promised sessions and then I was called out for their error was disheartening. I was given an apology after the fact by his homeroom teacher, but not from the vice principal. The entire experience was...
Read moreLet me just tell you. This school is amazing. I'm a student here and honestly? The bad reviews are so not true. This school deserves 100/10. The teachers here ACTUALLY care about us students. I transferred to this school because of harassment and bullying from an in person public school. Every one of my teachers are amazing at teaching. I'm serious. When I have kids, this is where they are going to go to school. I've had the best experience here but unfortunately this is my senior year. I wish I started sooner. A HUGE thank you to all of the staff. You all are absolutely amazing. Mr.Manuel, Ms. Powell, Mr. Leal. You made this an amazing experience. Mr.Manuel is my Homeroom teacher and also was my Psych teacher. Thank you for being there for me when I had questions. Thank you for helping me through school. You deserve the world. So do all of the staff. All I can say is thank you so very much. BY FAR THE BEST SCHOOL EVER!!!!!
Update: I’ve now graduated! I wish I knew about this school sooner. My life would be so much better. Literally everyone there wants the best for you. Anything you need, they are willing to sit and listen. I genuinely can’t even begin to tell you. I was harassed at my other school and transferred here. Parents/Guardians!!! If you’re even come across this, please sign your kiddo up. I was able to work on not only my mental health, but my physical health as well. I’m a business owner and also have a full time job at a Lab. Connections understood the position I was in. I was able to grow as a student AND as a business owner. Beyond grateful! I make a promise… when I have kiddos of my own, this is the school they will go to.
Lots of parents are concerned about online school and how it may be easy or not equivalent as a in person school. Trust me, it took a lot of convincing with my parents. It’s the same, but online. And plus there isn’t bullying or harassment. Just a safer place for those who don’t feel safe at public in person schools. If you’re thinking about it, do it!
Anyways sorry for the LONG review. I still have so much to say but not many people will get this far in the review. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me. I am so sad that I have to say goodbye to this school but it has helped me succeed in...
Read moreMy child has attended for 5 yrs. She will be graduating June 2022. The teachers have been very attentive. When my daughter would slack in doing her school I got phone calls or email. Her homeroom teacher called everyweek to discuss anything about her classes in the previous week. If there was a problem she made sure that what ever class my daughter had a problem in that particular teacher reached out to my daughter. My daughter's counsler touched basis wither every two months to let my daughter know that she was on track with her curriculm and that she had everything she needed for graduation. The school provided many resources to both the students and the parents. For those that had complaints such as those that I read in the reviews it is obvious that your children needed to be in a traditional school type setting. Online schooling is not for all children especially for children with certain needs as listed on the I.E.P's or for children that need to have I.E.P's done but the parents refuse to do so because the feel that it will stigmatize their child.
But I would recommend this program or any other online schooling program to parents who's child is able to work independantly, or gets bored with school because he/she has to wait for the others to grasp what is being taught before they can move on. And if you feel your child is not being challenged enough tell the teacher, they do give extra credit assignments, and can implement more assignments per Chapter/Unit and Lesson.
Thank you California Connection Academy SoCal your teachers have...
