I have stayed at Marriott's quite a few times and have noticed over the years a decline, not only in respect from the managers, associates etc but just downright rudeness: that is what happened when I tried to check in here on Saturday December 20th 2020. The customer service person, said her name was Hope, was extremely rude. She SAID, "Are you here on (essential) business or leisure?" Now, when I booked the reservations I had asked the reservation person if that mattered because I had heard that term again come up: I was told that it did not. I am here along with my wife, taking care of my grandkids for my boys and their wives. Also what does it matter and what is essential? Politicians etc. drinking and eating with thier buddies is what we've seen here in California. Now, my Boys are doing their thing, & I told Hope that they had whatever they were doing: one of my boys is a veteran and mentioned something in regards to business and the same with my other: but what does it matter. She insisted that I could only be here for essential business... Boy I am tired. Also, I have problems with breathing and I had my mask below my nose. This is because my nose has been cracked or broken before, plus other medical reasons that make it hard to breathe through a mask. But she insisted I have it over my nose. But, I tried to explain the above to her. Well somewhere along there she's really pushed the rude button and stated, "I can send you to another or some other hotel!!!" Can you believe that! Can you imagine the cost, loss of points, being charged & trying to fix all of this? I said, "Look I will stand directly behind the shield that is there, & talk from there. By the way we were not that close anyway. (And we were both wearing masks) She insisted that I wear the mask throughout the hotel. Okay?? But that wasn't the problem! It was how she addressed it. Well, Hope, now has a ten pound hammer, so let's pound the heads of the customers. What a child, and extremely dangerous because this is what leads to discriminatory practices. You know being of Jewish descent (with a mixture of Indian and Hispanic blood), this so called covid problem, gives us all insight, how the government, business, plus the public treated the Jewish people, & OTHERS, that were declared the problem: so discriminate, treat ugly, put in jail, don't allow anyone to work or travel, that have been labled as the problem. I guess we never eliminated that attitude here in the U.S. we just found something new to treat one another less than. You can't work, you can't go out, & you cannot have businesses etc. When will we realise, including businesses, this is going to eventually be very detrimental. In addition I have some training in respiratory therapy: these masks don't help, they are only a spit guard, in my probably, worthless opinion. The only thing that would help in totality is to dress up in a self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), or in a more simple manner, use an N95 mask, which only controls about 95% of diseases etc. Plus it is NOT healthy to wear for extended periods. Fact. Also, (small note?) why were masks not pushed before during the cold & flu season? Approximately 30 to 60 thousand Americans die every year of flu etc. Not including other countries. No mask then. Influenza is a virus, & still kills with vaccines being available. Anyway finally checked in, but later I went to the front desk again, there was now another lady present, but I asked for late check out because of my Marriott status. I was told that they would not know and I would have to ask in the morning. Plus Hope said she could not necessarily give it to all three rooms. Also, she said, and I think the other lady agreed (Now I am more upset & frustrated), but said something to the effect, "You could be Platinum etc. & that would not guarantee this, etc." Okay. Fine. I will be cancelling my card, & marriott member status. I am done with this company. Also I spoke to another couple, that I think have been here for two weeks already, they said she had treated...
Read moreFrequenting California, My family loves the Dana Point area. This is a great place to stay near your favorite beaches at Laguna, ours being Treasure island beach. It’s also close enough to spend time in Newport and Corona Del Mar. The latter being about a 20min drive down the PCH. This location is also right off of the highway, and Costco is right around the block. There is also an Albertsons up the street. The exact area of the Residence Inn isn’t upscale, but it sits in its own space. It takes just a few short minutes to get to the Dana point marina, and also Salt creek beach.
The Residence Inn here, is a MUST for families. There is no better place to stay when traveling with a group. Super nice rooms. I like the room with the open floor plan. It is hard to find two queens in a room these days, but you will find them here! And yes! They are super comfy!
Included is an additional sofa bed, a kitchenette and all the amenities, so make sure to request this one! if you prefer, you can request a suite, with two separate rooms, and a front room if that’s what you prefer.
Complimentary breakfast is served daily, and some evenings, you will find activities, cocktails and snacks.
Spend the day at your favorite beach and come back to splash in the pool or relax in the hot tub. Workout in the fitness room, put a load of laundry in the laundry room, or grill for your family, at the outdoor grill. And, to cap off your night, don’t forget to put your feet up while lounging around the seated fire pit.
Always friendly and accommodating staff on hand to help with anything you may need. *Not the place I would stay for romance, but this will always be my go to place to stay when traveling with my family or a group.

Read moreUpdate: well right is right and wrong is wrong. It wasn't 2 hrs from my post on the review board that I was contacted by hotel management and they bent over backwards to make it right. I can say this, the room may have be tired, but management here is not and we couldn't praise them more. They salvaged our vacation and fixed everything but moving those darn train tracks. A huge thank you for living up to the Marriott brand in the customer care department, I change my rating from a 2 to a 4.5!
I'm here now....selected this location because we always stay Marriott and are rewards members. Let me tell you, Marriott would be disappointed if they saw their name on this building. Took a spoon out of the drawer to stir my coffee and it has crusted yogurt or the like on it; hole in the door; white stains of what looks like an orgy just left or police used illuminated techniques to find bodily fluids on the sofa; the photos of this location, specifically the bathroom and living area of the room have been so airbrushed and stretched....we practically have to stand on the bed to pass each other, 3 people in a king room with sofa sleeper...wouldn't recommend it; then there are the 3 flights of stairs to get to the hell hole room we have over looking the sewer plant and a trailer park. I still haven't found the location in the photos of the picturesque fire pit overlooking the beautiful mountains and the view. In all my Marriott stays this one hands down disappoints and my first trip ever to California with my family is going to be memorable, but not for the right reasons. Buyer beware, the picture's lie. Oh did I mention the train tracks outside the bedroom window... chooo choooo...
