My parents gave me their old Sharp 5600 radio/tape deck/record player combo we had in our house since the late 1980s. When I received it the radio would cut out after 30 minutes and the record player would only work intermittently.
I called other places that fix older stereo equipment closer to my home, and they all said, rather snootily I might add, the stereo wasn’t worth fixing and would not take my business.
When I called Gene at Inception Sound and Video, he was kind, courteous, and guessed the problem with the stereo system based on my verbal description. I went straight over to his home workshop, and after a visual diagnosis of the stereo equipment he was transparent on the ability to fix it, what would happen if he couldn’t, and the costs.
Gene was able to fix the radio and the record player on my family stereo. He had it for about six weeks and stated he could have fixed it sooner had it not been the holiday rush. He offered a 90 day warranty I needed to use when the record tone arm was not lifting properly after his repairs. He made this minor adjustment within hours after I brought the record player component back to him.
Gene is a rare gem in the SLC area and a genuinely kind soul. I would highly recommend him for his expertise, his fair prices, and his problem-solving skills. He has literally restored a piece of my childhood by fixing my family’s old stereo system that I know I will enjoy for...
Read moreIf you need someone to store your stuff and give you excuses for 6 months, Gene is your man.
Update: He finally responded and gave me back my Walkman with little work done to it and gave me attitude for this review. Upon pickup, I asked if he got what was asked done, he said no, then proceeded to say that he read my review and that I "f-ed him." I gave him the criticism that he should update us and call us if its going to take longer and he responded with, "do you want me to answer phones or fix your Walkman." I said both. The answer is both Gene. He plays victim to his excuses instead of owning up and taking the constructive criticism which is a poor business practice. Reviews can always change if you take care of your customer, but because of this experience and the way he treated me when I picked up the Walkman, I can't recommend this man to anyone. He consistently asked me to be patient with him, but after 6 weeks turns into 6 months and he consistently says next week or tomorrow, how long is it until patience is considered taken for granted.
Update 2: Upon testing the Walkman, the two main problems I told him to fix are not fixed. Don't let him fool you, he did not spend hours cleaning the circuit board, I did that before giving it to him and of course he is trying to make himself look better when in...
Read morePlease pay attention to the other 1-star reviews on here. Obviously a pattern. Gene took in an antique record player cabinet to fix some electronic issues, and gave an estimate of 2-3 weeks. Fast forward 5 months, a few follow up phone calls from me asking about progress, multiple reasons why he hadn’t even touched it, to give him just another week or two, and so on, in that 5 months, and I finally said my patience had run out I’m just going to pick it back up. Ridiculous. ONLY then did he tell me his dog had chewed it all up. Oops, sorry is all I got from him. Then he tried to tell me he was doing ME a favor for taking it in the first place. Not only did he do NOTHING for 5 months, but made it worse and would not budge on any sort of compensation. You are an adult running a business, you are not doing people favors. Have more integrity in your...
