We live in Ogden (less than an hour away), and came here for a mini getaway weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the 1887 house B&B...for a reasonable price, we could avoid the traffic and long drive back to Ogden after seeing a Real Salt Lake game, and do a few other things in the area. It's a quiet and quaint place with a rich history, which owner Fran will share with you over a delicious, home-cooked breakfast. She treats you like friends visiting her home. Each themed room has character and charm, from the Sleeping Beauty room to the Paul Bunyan room (where we stayed). We would recommend this place to people passing through, visiting Salt Lake for a few days, and even for locals who want to get away from the daily grind at a reasonable price. A couple visiting at the same time as us lived walking distance from the place, but wanted a little break from the day-to-day. Get someone to watch your kids or pets and come check this place out. You won't be disappointed!

We just stayed at this darling bed and breakfast and enjoyed every minute! The owner and very welcoming and helpful. She was fun to talk to and cooked us delicious breakfast both days we were there (to give you an idea of food she cooks she made us: ham, scrambled eggs, homemade waffles with fresh fruit and whippedcream, toast, juice and coffee one day and the next day ham, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, french toast, juice and coffee. SHE WILL ALSO ADJUST YOUR BREAKFAST IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES) she is a great cook and makes a big breakfast...so come hungry! The bed and breakfast was decorated beautifully and was very clean! we stayed in the "wine and gold" room...very romantic :) we would recommend the 1887 Hansen Bed and Breakfast to anyone and will definately be going back!

We loved staying here! Fran is the sweetest, she made the most delicious breakfast and took our food allergies into consideration, plus her home is amazing and has so much history. We stayed in the Cowboy room in the bunk house, it was well worth it for the extra privacy. The bathtub fits 2, and the outhouse bathroom was a fun touch. The fireplace kept the room cozy warm, and the bed was comfortable. The home and decor are definitely older and well loved, and that is part of the charm. Fran gave us a tour of all the other rooms during check out, and we will definitely be back!! She is a sweetheart and loves sharing the history of the home.

We booked the blue lagoon room for our 27th wedding anniversary. For the price, we were expecting something like Anniversary Inn. This was like staying in a dirty room at Grandma’s. The owner (in her 80s) runs everything. She does the booking, cleaning, and cooking. It’s just too much for one person to do. She really should at least hire out housekeeping. Our room was very dusty; curtains, knickknacks, furniture, etc. There was no top sheet for the bed, just a blanket, which I seriously doubt gets washed between each guest. I was grossed out by that. The bed is from the 60’s or 70’s. The mattress is so old and so uncomfortable. Neither of us slept well at all. We were watching a movie on the small TV at 6:00 PM at volume level 14, which we could barely hear across the room on the bed. The TV is mounted right by the door to the hallway. The owner was showing another guest to their room, heard our TV from the hallway and pounded on our door to turn it down; we aren’t the only guests at her place. We turned it down to 8 but then couldn’t hear our movie at all, turned sub-titles on, but they were too small for reading across the room. So, no movie. (It was 6:00 PM, not even close to bedtime for anyone!) So, we decided to run some water in the jetted tub and soak/relax. The hot water ran out when the tub was about 4 inches deep, not even close to covering the jets. She must only have 1 hot water heater and another guest beat us to it. After a horrible night trying to sleep, we did get enough hot water at 7:00 AM to use the tub. We were at least looking forward to breakfast as we heard good reviews about it. It wasn’t very good. And because she made us wait until all guests were present before we could eat, the breakfast...

This bnb has raving reviews which is why I was even more upset with our experience because we booked from the 4 & 5 star reviews. This is far from a 5 star bnb. It’s absolutely a -1 star for cleanliness. The owner was very kind and welcoming to us but definitely wanted to talk a lot… like knocked on our door 4 times to chat even though she knew we were exhausted. We booked the blue room which looked incredible online — it was far from it. It was extremely dirty. There was dust on everything, the bathroom towels were hard… like crusty and hard. Now let’s talk about the bed. Fran said she’d had the bed for 50 years and good lord it looked it. The converter had questionable stains all over it when you pulled it back.. the sheets had grass and who knows what else on them... Some sketchy white crusty stains. We were actually going to sleep on top of the bed until we realized we paid $215 for this room and needed to just request a refund and leave. Fran seemed horrified when we told her about how dirty her bnb was (we said it in a very kind way. She truly is a sweet lady). We showed her the stains but she ignored those comments and just said she hung the flannel sheets out to dry and that’s how grass got on them. She did offer us a different room but we were kinda over the constant badgering and not even being able to eat in our room we paid $215 for so we left. She did give us a full refund, which we were happy about. Unfortunately, I think the owners are overwhelmed and don’t quite know how to clean properly. Definitely don’t fall for the pretty photos and interesting history and book a room. Just show up and ask for a tour or something. I’m sure...
