Used to buy a ton of Yugioh here before they told me to keep my Printed Warhammer army "Private" and that any use of proxies is "Heavily discouraged". I had written a long rant here but instead let me tell you how to NEVER give Gamesworkshop a cent of your hard earned money anymore!
1- Get a cheap resin printer like the Anycubic Photon Mono 2 and resin like their ABS-Like pro 2. This will MSRP around $150 but I got mine in a deal for $80 just check Amazon frequently.
2- Get a cheap Wash/Cure station like the Comgrow it'll MSRP around $80-100
3- Find your 3d STL files on Cults3d, Thingiverse, Myminifactory, or Sketchfab are the top places to find files, many of which can be obtained FOR FREE! :)
IF YOU NEED A CODEX LOOK ON SCRIBD :)
4 (Optional)- This is optional but if you learn some simple 3d editing in Blender you can pre-build and base minis in 3D BEFORE YOU EVEN PRINT THEM! No assembly, no cutting from sprue, no super glue just put it together in blender and print. If this is too difficult don't stress! You can always print out individual parts and glue them old school!
5- Slicer, AnyCubic uses their own slicer software called the Photo workshop it's a fantastic and robust free slicer. You load your 3d STLs into the slicer software and it will let you place them and orient them on the build plate for printing. Some tips are to never orient objects 90° to the build plate you ALWAYS want to be printing on an angle and pointed parts of a model are best oriented facing away from the build plate. The slicer also will let you run a repair on your file ensuring it's ready to print and a "Supports" function that will automatically add all the support structure you file needs to print. Once your files are oriented, Repaired, and supported click on slice and save the slicer file.
6- PRINT! move your newly sliced files over to the USB stick for your printer and it should now show up in your printers print list. For the first time using the machine there is some setup like balancing the build plate but the included documentation is incredibly simple and easy to follow to get it set up. Then after setup it's as easy as selecting the file you want and letting it run.
7- wash and cure. After the print is finished USING GLOVE pry the print off the build plate and put it into the cleaning vat with isopropyl that is at least 90% alcohol. Let it wash for 5-10 mins, remove from the wash and let drip dry, then using a pair of tweezers or pliers carefully remove all the support structures from your model. After removing supports another 5-10 wash in the alcohol can help with smoothing and surface prep. Finally set the model on the rotating curing platform and place inside the curing station for 10-20 minutes depending on the size of your model.
And you're already to paint!!! I suggest Army Painter and Vallejo paints they are fantastic paints. You'll need a wet pallet, mini brushes ofc but there are many quality budget options on Amazon. I also suggest a brush cleaning station that'll let you always have fresh water so you're never transferring gray water onto your models. A good painting setup can run around $100-200 really just based off what you want to start with it can also be something you buy a part of and build up over time...
There you go max $500-600 and you could print 1000s and 1000s of points of Warhammer minis that would have cost a fortune. (I printed a single Imperial Knight from 1x$14 bottle of resin that basically paid for the whole setup) You can print them pre-built NO ASSEMBLY. There are MANY talented artists out there who do non-GW sculpts of models that are objectively better than GW art. AND THEY ARE NEVER OUT OF...
Read moreI’ve been going to Raven Forge Games for almost a year. The diversity and inclusive atmosphere is appreciated. There is a code of conduct to help make the store a place you can feel safe and welcome. The entire staff has taken time to learn my name, what my interests are, and have asked how they can help me. I have learned to play Magic, Pokémon, One Piece, and Lorcana there. This is a kid friendly store with a swear jar for charity. I meet a new person at least once a week. Some are coming from out of town to play there. I recommend Raven Forge Games for new and veteran gamers. As a woman, I am also thankful for the other women who have started playing there as well. They even have a private Ladies Only D&D night for us to feel safe to learn and play. I understand things can happen that can cause hurt feelings and frustration, but I can honestly say the owners have been the most open to feedback on ways to improve the store and gaming space. I’m thankful to have a store like Raven Forge and all the fun people that come in to play from...
Read moreI had been on the hunt for a specific game that I wanted to buy locally instead of online. I went to my local game store and was basically scoffed at. I went to another game store and they didn’t have it. I called Raven Forge to see if they had it and the man told me that they didn’t have it, just as I was about to hang up he said hang on a second and then came back on the phone and said he would sell me the demo version. When I got to the store I was incredibly impressed by how organized and clean the store was! Every single employee was gracious and so, so, nice! I felt very welcomed and didn’t feel like I was out of place or intruding unlike my local store. I actually left buying more than I had intended to!
I will definitely be making the drive to Sanford any time I am looking for a game or D and D related items! It was well...
